Here we go, then... 'Felis Tympanis' ...Latin for 'Tiger Toms'. Or maybe it's 'Cat Drums', I'm not sure... https://soundcloud.com/arkaymith/felis-tympanis
I think that big-nosed guy out of Rush might be looking for a gig just about now.
That would be so cool! And very weird.

Get a dep guitarist in for when yours can't make it. Much easier.

It's because the tambourine is very high-frequency and will cut through any mix, even when not anywhere near a microphone. So it's very difficult to ignore. The trick is not to have one anywhere near the band when you're playing live. Tambourines should be reserved exclusively for children, and the kind of people who learn to ride a unicycle and think that juggling is a valuable social skill, i.e. the homeless.
I've always seen the Beatles, just like Harry Potter and The Wire, as one of those things that are evidently extremely good but which I still find tedious and irritating.
There is so much wrong with mentioning Harry Potter and The Wire in the same sentence as The Beatles that I can't even begin to consider it - in fact I'm going to have to go and lie down in a darkened room and chant 'calm, blue ocean' over and over again for about an hour. -
I've been thinking about swapping my Genz Streamliner 600 for an ABM. This makes me think about it even more.
Obviously the ABM is a lot bigger and heavier... funny, in the 70s people would have considered an ABM as lightweight.. as far as tone goes, I've had a Streamliner 900 and while it's an excellent amp, I prefer the ABM. That's very subjective, of course - you may not!
My own personal fave is Nanostudio... it's quite literally a DAW in your pocket (or are you pleased to see me... eh, eh?).
Very interesting... and I am pleased to see you of course, as always... I think the swiping and flipping and scrolling would drive me mad. I find it annoying even on a 19" monitor. What's needed is some kind of room in meatspace, where you could go specifically to record and even have some kind of machine for each stage of the process, perhaps even with a 3D mixer that you sit at... then it would be almost like a real and genuine experience... what about getting musicians in to play their instruments..? Ah no, that's crazy talk... *ambles off, mumbling*
Just been working in Barcelona (assistant) for the last two weeks, 'Cubasis' and 'Notion' for iPad came in very handy for sketching out.
...worth mentioning StaffPad here as a composition tool...
That does look amazing! Pity I'm not competent enough to compose directly into notation, but I can see the advantages.

Having Googled it, I note there's an Android app for FL Studio, which I don't have any desire to try - mainly because I feel it would be like papering the hallway through the letterbox, to use a gynaecological analogy. I like to see my playlist, patterns, audio files, mixer and other working areas in their entirety on the screen - I can't help but feel I'd be spending a lot of time scrolling and/or flipping between screens, which would hamper my workflow somewhat.

Do you compose on a hand-held device? I saw on the news today that more people now get online with their smartphones and tablets than they do with desktop or laptop computers. Which made me wonder... is there now usable software or an app which allows serious DAW-like composition using a hand-held? Can you produce a hit song on the bus, or while having a dump (or both)? I've been using a desktop DAW for years (FL Studio XXL Producer) and it's an incredibly useful composition and production tool to say the very least. But I'm not sure I'd like to do what I do using a smaller screen, or headphone monitoring... Does anyone regularly produce viable compositions on their hand-held device? Are you restricted to programming or can you record live playing? If so, which software/app are you using? Or is this already a well-accepted 'thing' and I'm just a sad old git who is totally behind the times, using a laughable out-of-date desktop for my work, like a glass-blower or furniture-maker in a museum?? And if you've produced hand-held compositions, let's hear 'em!!

Is Keef right, Sgt Peppers is a load of tosh?

It was released 48 years ago. It was one of the very first concept albums, the first to have no gaps between songs, the first to have lyrics printed on the cover and the first gatefold sleeve. It was one of the very first to include signal processing as a creative process, the idea of producer as an effective member of the band, and one of the first to use extensive multi-track recording. It was made as a studio album with no intention of ever having the band play it live, so could go anywhere, and did. In short, it was completely groundbreaking and started the cult of the pop/rock album. It was the benchmark to which subsequent bands compared their own output. I first heard it ten years after its release when I started to really properly listen to music and it blew my little teenage mind. So much music has been released since then it's easy to forget how unusual and how startlingly original this album was. In my view it has stood the test of time and still sounds very fresh and original even now. I love Keef, but if he said this then he's talking out of his arse. Jealous, much..?
