think Mrs Spiltmilk might have something to say
If she's anything like the current mrs discreet, she'll say, 'That's nice, dear...' and get on with watching Holby, or some such...
I already have aged Olympic white :-) I agree it's always a corker though and haven't ruled out entirely!
Ha! I hadn't looked at your sig. Bloody hell... obviously one of each colour, then...

The 50-100 set is really good and I have used it on several different basses. I'm currently using La Bella flats, but of course they are three times the price. I think Fender flats are somewhat underrated though, the 50-100 set is well-balanced output-wise and I don't think you'll have any problems.

Aged Olympic White every time. if I had to choose one from your list, then Shoreline Gold.
So I guess it's not that drummers are particularly "promiscuous" but they just get invited to more bands, maybe due to a lack of supply?
Well, yes - you're obviously a competent drummer. I'm sure crap drummers don't get quite so many offers.
Andy Baxter looks fun but out of my budget unfortunately!
No-one said you had to buy anything!
I thought you guys did kilo's these days?
I'll accept five Euros...
I'm going to London on Saturday for a day out, I'm going to take in wunjo and bass gallery, anywhere else worth a look?
Andy Baxter is in Hoxton Street N1, but you'll need to make an appointment. http://andybaxterbass.com/
Sorry mate...
Wait a minute... you are Scott Thunes and I claim my five pounds!!
Thing is, I don't want to be gigging that often, so one band is enough for me, same with the guitarist. I'm pretty sure this guy doesn't want to be out every weekend either. It's just we are reluctant to share "our" drummer because sooner or later it will cause a problem when dates clash.

You don't want to be gigging that often, yet you want a "decent" drummer to commit to you alone.
Objectively I'd say that a drummer who doesn't want to be out every weekend isn't any kind of a drummer at all - but subjectively I have had real-world experience of a really fantastic drummer who just wanted to rehearse once a week and wasn't actually that bothered about doing gigs at all. So they are out there. Or at least, IME there's ONE out there...

MARKBASS LITTLE MARK III... recommended settings please?
discreet replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Amps and Cabs
Definitely be sparing with the filters. A bit of VLE just cuts your top end a little and that's OK, but the VPF (though it sounds great in isolation) will scoop your sound live and your definition will disappear. What sounds big and lush in concert from a Markbass amp usually sounds a little 'middly' in isolation. -
To muddy the waters further, what was that ad/film/whatever that synched Pink Floyd's Any Colour You Like with film of surfing?
Crystal Voyager? But I think that was 'Echoes'.

What about one of those electronic kits that look like an acoustic kit..?

Very good. That neck is a nice... bit of wood... I forget the term for that kind of figuring! Enjoy.

Bought Martin's ABM 500 EVO II (with cover), and what a great amp it is. It's also in pristine condition, was a bargain, and came with a spare valve and a spare knob, to boot! So that'll come in useful next time I'm invited to a wedding. Martin is a fine fellow and is most happy to talk bass... and I got to play his acg too, which is a tour-de-force of the luthier's art... all round a very smooth transaction and I'm very much looking forward to pairing the ABM with my Schroeder 21012L. Epic!! Thanks Martin, much appreciated.
Discreet, if you don't want to bother with Amazon that same box set is about the same price in Fopp if you have one nearby, that's where I got mine.
Great, thanks for the info.

Agree with the comments about price and convenience of a DAW. But I would say don't skimp on the important hardware. You still need really good audio preamps, a really good monitoring system and really good microphones to do professional work if you're recording real drums, guitars and vocals. And they're not cheap. Depends what you want really. You can get going and start to learn with some basic equipment that's not too terrible for a lot less.

Our drummer is only in one band. But that's because he's such a cantankerous git that no-one else could possibly put up with him - the miserable, boorish, anti-social, pessimistic, churlish, misanthropic old codger! But he's a really good drummer.
-
All we want is a half-decent drummer, who only wants to play in one band and who owns a smallish, appropriate kit! How hard can it be?
The answer to that is 'very hard indeed'. Finding a decent drummer who isn't involved in several other projects is difficult. Finding a decent drummer who will commit to you exclusively is nigh-on impossible. And no decent drummer means no decent band.
Didn't hear him on JW's show but I recently revisited some of those old man albums as they are in that 'Original Albums' series where you get a little case of 5 albums very cheaply; http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/B00G040NHK
Thanks for the link!

My first thought is that you should definitely go down the DAW route. But then I've been using one for years (so am probably biased) and if you're not familiar with them the learning curve is quite steep - but well worth doing if possible because the advantages are many.

You can increase the size of text in your browser by using the Zoom function but yes, it IS very small!

Having used the Joyo on several different basses, it has come to my attention that placement is very important and you need to spend a little time finding the best position for it on the headstock if it's to work properly. Obviously quite by chance I hit the spot first time out of the box. So a lesson learned - live with gear for a little while before recommending it! However I do still recommend the Joyo, with the above proviso.

I didn't know he'd written books. I'll have to search that one out.
