  1. Preference is one thing, practicalities are another. IME you just can't beat a 70s P Bass through an Ampeg SVT-CL and an 8X10. This is my preference. But for various (and very good) reasons I actually use a small Class D Combo. Life is full of compromise...
  2. You'd risk being fired. Haha haha!
  3. I tweak mine more now than I did then.
  4. Absolutely. I've got hair and your BMI is within nominal parameters.
  5. Quite, I picked up a bass in 1974 and lived fast. However I failed to die young and my pension plans are all down the toilet. You pays your money...
  6. *SOLD* Gallien-Krueger 200MB Combo The legendary G-K 200MB Combo, one of the very first lightweight bass combos and precursor to G-K's current giantkiller, the G-K MB150S 112-III, which retails at around £760. https://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_mb150s.htm Much lauded by DB players (and electric players) for it's small size, light weight (11kg) and prodigious output, this particular example is complete and in fair condition (see pics). It features the unusual all-aluminium enclosure construction which enables this tiny combo to produce a such a big sound. This thing is really built. However... there is a small crack in the perimeter of the driver (see pic) which apparently is par for the course for these. Thomann currently offer the correct replacement for around £67. https://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_08200390.htm Also... this is a USA version, which means it has a 120V transformer in it. I've been reliably informed that it's not difficult to replace the existing transformer with a 240V version. I don't have a link for one, but suppliers such as RS are bound to have something suitable that's not going to break the bank. You could of course use a step-up transformer, but obviously a replacement would be preferable. I acquired the combo to be used by my son and his fellow pupils for bass guitar, effectively donating it to the school music department. I knew I'd have to replace the driver and transformer. So instead of doing that (and possibly finding out halfway through that my skills are not what I thought they were) I think it would be better all round for me to sell it as it is, then put the money towards an appropriate combo for the school. So... the combo needs a new driver, a replacement transformer and a bloody good clean. If you're a bit handy it won't cost you a lot to get this up and running, when you'll have yourself a very light, very small, very loud high-quality classic combo for not much cash that has instant retro appeal and what's more, sounds great. £95 cash on collection from SE London, or I will accept PayPal or Bank Transfer and post for £15 - in which case item will be sent via an appropriate tracked and insured method. Now SOLD. I thank you!
  7. It's OK, my lips are sealed regarding your ottery shenanigans. Should I mention the herring? Probably best not, eh..?
  8. Yes I am - and frankly I'm a bit surprised about the otter.
  9. Don't spend the next 40 years in the pub and FOCUS, for f*ck's sake!
  10. Steampunk is retarded. There, I said it. Thhp! :P

I like the programmes, but not members of the public who appear on them. They are always disappointing. Just like real life! 9_9

Steampunk Morris dancing is even more retarded. Plus tard as the French would probably say.

@pete.young Thanks for that image. Where's the brain bleach?? :o

  11. This is a crazy price for a very light, giggable and great-sounding combo...
  12. Most amps sound a bit 'meh' played solo. Any amp that sounds perfect when played solo is likely to be inaudible or lacking definition when used in concert. Which is why an amp that is auditioned in a shop or at home won't reveal its true nature until you fire it up with a band, preferably at a gig. I think this is why amps have 'contour' controls and why Markbass have filter controls - to make them sound good solo, at home. Just don't use these controls too much at a gig, or you will in effect be miming...
  13. Yes, because it stands for Just Out Of Interest.
  14. I'm guessing that's a 'No'.
  15. Herself and the boy are away for two weeks, so our dishwasher is getting a well-deserved rest.
  16. There have been a surprising number of accidents involving dishwashers. You're supposed to place knives in tbe cutlery thing blade-up, for better cleaning, but if you do this with very sharp or very pointy knives it's possible to fall on them, or to cut yourself when removing them after cleaning. So I always put sharp knives or skewers etc. business-end down - it's safer. Rock 'n' Roll!
  17. Nice. Those words could be applied universally.
  18. Shame. If only the wheels had gone round and round! Sorry.
  19. For decades I joined bands through word of mouth and associates, etc. But as my contemporaries got older, got married and got 'proper' jobs, I was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century and t'interwebs. No bad thing, but you sure do meet some weirdos. Bit of an eye-opener. And an ear-opener!
  20. I've found it's a lot harder since going online.
  21. Both risky. Depends if you want to be in a band or make some money. You can't do both.
  22. I found my current band through Gumtree. And the one before that, come to think of it.
  23. On the other hand it may be the opportunity of a lifetime!
  24. Yes, apologies to the OP for going OT. Again. I also like the basic concept. But knowing the membership as I do, it's going to be a bit like herding cats. Ask 12 members what their ideal bass would be and you're going to get 12 different basses. If not more.
