1. Watched it last night. He was no doubt an iconoclast, but if ever there was a man who should not have had kids... On the other hand that kind of single-minded selfishness makes it possible to be incredibly focused... how many here would devote more time to playing were it not for their family and relationship responsibilities..?
 2.
Anyone else noticed the tendency of guitarists to try and reduce songs back to verse, chorus middle eight even when the interest in the song is in the structure? Drives me nuts, I've no problem with rearranging songs but dropping the so called tricky bits because you can't be bothered to learn them then justifying it by claiming to put your own spin on a song. Grrr
One of the many reasons I don't do covers bands any more.
 3.
...I have noticed that there's something of a tendency for songs to have a not-quite-repeating structure - so in the old days you'd learn intro, verse, chorus, clever bit, and outro, and mix and match the verse, chorus, and clever bit as required, but songs like "Riverboat Song" or "Last Nite" have a not-quite-repeating structure that means you have to learn the whole song in a linear fashion.
In the 'old days' too, actually... in my opinion the not-quite-repeating structure is a sign of a good arrangement and good songwriting. So often are songs now just cut-and-paste verses and choruses - quite literally in fact, since the advent of the DAW. Even a verse or chorus that is ostensibly the same will have minute differences if played in real time from start to finish by real musicians, which is what makes music interesting.
 4.
A pile of parts that IMO look awesome combined
Agreed. I'm having naughty thoughts about a red P Bass with mint guard, one-piece maple and a Darkstar pup. Must... resist...
 5. Are we to have a big argument about branding, decals, logos and replicas..?
 6. Absolutely agree. And if you're playing to six people or six hundred or six thousand, whether they're behaving themselves or not, you should be professional regardless.
 7.
YOUNG!
Yes, of course... on the geological time scale, very young.
 8.
...Here's some bits I had lying around
It was apparently made following an enquiry about a P Bass with an MM pup and a LH neck.
 9. Limelight MM P Bass... Saw this on Classic & Cool guitars... looks like Mark's trying out a couple of new things. You know what my views are on tort with black, but apart from that it looks pretty intriguing. I'm wondering what it sounds like... http://classicandcoo...ght00161mmp.htm "It's a P bodied bass with a MM pick up and a left-handed J-width neck, set up (just to be completely clear) to be played as a regular right-handed bass. You may think the upside tuners might be a bit awkward, but actually they fall perfectly to hand and you quickly use them without having to think about it. The body has a medium relic, but looks 'right'. The metal work is just lightly-tarnished which is how we've been doing them recently, and has the usual Limelight refinements. Specifications: Gotoh vintage L/H tuners Aged Nitro-cellulose finished neck with Tusq nut, clay dots and hand rolled fingerboard edges Alder body finished in nitro-cellulose Black. Quality vintage bridge CTS pots and Sprague cap Vintage wired MM type Pick up" Lightly-tarnished metalwork sounds good to me. Looks like Mark has been taking on board feedback from various sources about the perceived 'over-relicing' of hardware, particularly bridges...
 10.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
You need an amp that goes up to 11 for that...
 11.
Set all the controls on 10 and enjoy... adjust your playing style to get the tone, which really is 'in the fingers' to a great extent.
Agree about playing style and 'in the fingers', but not too sure about 'set all the controls on 10'...
 12. I missed this, somehow... fantastic work, looks great!
 13. The older stuff is heavy, but it sounds perfectly fine and is extremely reliable, real workhorse gear. A surprising amount of pros (who have gone beyond GAS and are constantly gigging) use Peavey precisely for these reasons.
 14. Just perfect for your bongo mag collection!
 15.
It's a revivial of a Cornish band called Hooked. Aiming at 75 -100 gigs/year.
Nice one! I thought for a second you had written 'Aiming at 75-100 age group'.
 16.
Is Nick Smith one of us?
ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! Now I have GAS for an Ibanez Roadster/Roadstar. That pearl white!
 17.
I've been told if I was to buy that many basses I may find myself single... on the flip side I would have more basses
Yes indeed... is there a problem..?
 18. Often considered this exact rig, but haven't gone for it - yet. Good score!
 19.
Are you looking for a combo or separates (head and cabinet)?
OP states 'lightweight amp head'. I asked the same question myself, then happened to re-read the OP...
 20. I like fanned frets, having played them on Dingwalls, mainly. They look like they might be challenging after a 'normal' fretboard, but the fact is it took me literally two or three minutes to get used to them. They are very easy to play, falling under the shape of your hands much more naturally than non-fanned.
 21. Burman SL100/MPA. Again not common, but one of the best valve amps out there.
 22. No doubt you'll get lots of suggestions. However... the G-K MB500 Fusion is small but sounds massive and is very warm-sounding and hefty. But you can get the 'G-K' sound too if that's what you want. I've been using one for a while now - it's great. It's just that the new Tech-21 VT500 is giving me GAS...
 23. Must... resist... I am a P Bass man. I am a P Bass man...
 24.
...definitely an old Rockbass, as the bridge shows. Pre-2010? Or even older?
Ah, I must have misunderstood, I thought it was a new one. That restricts the options a little, possibly.
 25.
What say ye?
Send it back. If it's not right it'll bug you forever and getting a partial refund will be a right old palaver.
