The sad and tragic failures of the 'new' rockbass streamer fretless...
discreet replied to goonieman's topic in Bass Guitars
One day, I will play in a band called The Sad & Tragic Failures.
Excellent notion. You could get on the same bill as Commercial Suicide. A fine band. -
I have GAS for one now... was thinking of buying a VT Bass (again) but holding fire...

That is a major shame, because it looks amazing! I don't know if I've ever told anyone, but I quite like white basses... lovely figuring on the board, too. -
Does nobody on ebay post anything anymore?
I once bought a load of foam noise reducing tiles that never arrived. 300 quid. I messaged the seller and was told, oh, it was my boyfriend that listed them and we have broken up now. They shouldn't have been listed.
What a shame! Down with her boyfriend for making her confuse her failed relationship with a legitimate eBay transaction! I think under the circumstances you should have let the poor girl keep your £300! That's obviously what she was hoping for! Jesus Christ, what a pill... -
Duly noted, thanks!
She sounds more fun to be around anyway (after a quick google!). He's a short jehovah's witness, she's er, not. Win!
She's a total barrel of laughs but don't ever dance with her at a club - she attracts a lot of attention and makes your dancing look like turds. I haven't met his highness so I can't comment, but I do have an opinion about JWs, which I'll keep to myself. -
That has actually made me feel slightly ill, as well.
For about years I played in a band with no guitarist - just bass, drums, keys and vocals. It was like a Utopian dream.
Wow, that sounds great! I suppose you could then get rid of the drummer, the keys and eventually the vocals, too. Oh, wait... -

A variation on Father Ted, then - in this case Pluto is small, whereas the Horsehead Nebula is mind-bogglingly huge!
Discreet is NOT the seller on any items I have bought on eBay. Mark is a good guy to buy from.
I thank you! And I wasn't born in 1986. Just to make that clear. -

This thread proves that being in bands with friends is a bloody pain in the arse. As far as bands go I prefer to play with people who I meet only to do band-related stuff and don't see at any other time, including social occasions, not even a drink after rehearsal. Mind you, it doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes I'll have 'proper' band that gives me my 'band' jollies, and an occasional, social-event 'mates' band that I don't give a crap about, so they can pull whatever stupid shenanigans they like. -
...why using a bigger amp isn't the answer.
I've often thought this. A bigger amp to 'prevent clipping' due to 'increased headroom' is still more powerful and so likely to blow your speakers anyway, isn't it? And while I'm on, can anyone explain why The Hubble Telescope can't see the geography of Pluto (7.5 billion km away) when it can provide a marvellously sharp image of the Horsehead Nebula (155 light years away)? It is a simple 'Father Ted' explanation, i.e. Pluto is small, whereas the Horsehead Nebula is far away?
I haven't had to wait weeks for anything to turn up from an online purchase for about 10 years, even ordering from the states usually takes no more than a couple of weeks.
It can take weeks if an item's not in stock, for example. But I don't want to get into a tedious discussion about exact delivery times, my point was that eBay buyers expect their stuff to be delivered pretty damn quick compared with a non-eBay website where people are generally a little more tolerant about it. -

Yes, start complaining straight away. When I was an eBay trader (for my sins) it amused me how buyers expected to receive their goods immediately if not sooner, apparently thinking that eBay sellers have some method of posting that's faster than the Post Office. How? You buy something from any other website (apart from Amazon) and it can take weeks to turn up, and apparently this is quite acceptable. -
...If it's 70s style rock covers, a Werther's Original or barley sugar will suffice.
Paedo Pellets..? Are you sure..? -
The single most important thing to get right is the music and anything that takes focus away from that can potentially be a bad thing.
Too right. Our drummer keeps on about getting more gigs - which is fair enough, but I'm not really happy to go out until I'm sure that everyone is on the same page, which in my opinion, they're not. He's keen to gig, but he's not so keen to learn the material or do (in my opinion) enough rehearsals to get up to scratch. Same with the guitarist to a certain extent. They seem to think everything will come together by magic, or osmosis, and of course that is very much not the case. All those great bands you see whose performance seems totally natural and whose music sounds fresh and interesting - almost like they're playing their set for the first time - have months if not years of unseen work and a combined effort from all band members behind them, and a single-minded ambition to be as good as they can be.
