1. I've admired W&T from afar for years, but haven't tried one. Looks very fine. Must have a good rummage next time I'm in a barn...
 2.
So Mark what is best this or the D'addario one?
The Joyo is a no-frills budget option that does the job, and the D'addario is a little bit more expensive, has more features - and, er... does the job.
 3.
Does it work on a low B?
I don't know, I don't have a 5-string any more.
Does it have a feature whereby pressing the wrong button puts it in a utterly unusable strobe disco mode like my new TC one?
No.
Hope wife doesn't spot Joyo clip on in my search history
You probably already have 'G-String' in there several times...
 4. Not ideal, but I'd say if it's stable, it sounds OK, is tunable and you can play it without problems then I'd leave it! But then I go with the flow, me... I know some people's OCD wouldn't allow this solution!
 5. Hey Phil, this stopping-playing-bass-then-picking-it-up-again-in-your-fifties thing seems to be common on here! You should fit right in!
 6. Joyo Clip-On Headstock Tuner

DIGITAL MINI CLIP ON CHROMATIC TUNER - By JOYO Technologies
Brand New JOYO Digital Mini Clip on Chromatic Tuner with 360 Degrees swivel design for Guitar, Bass, violin, mandolin, ukulele, banjo etc. Perfect for left or right handed instruments.
Fits behind the headstock, keeping it hidden from your audience. Chromatic - works on almost any musical instrument - Vibration sensing - works even under noisy surroundings
Dimension: Length - 28mm, Width - 41mm, Height - 45mm - Power: 1 CR2032 button cell 3V - Supplied
Tuning range: A0(27.5Hz) - C8(4186.01Hz) - Auto shut down if the tuner receives no vibration signal (produced by an instrument) within several minutes
Looks much like the familiar D'Addario/Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner, but is simpler, having only one button - pressing it repeatedly changes the '440' setting (A) within set parameters and holding it down for a second or two switches the unit on and off. Like the NS, this tuner picks up vibrations from the headstock and is very accurate. The clip has rubber inserts which protects your headstock and makes the fit very secure, a distinct advantage over some models that can be a bit loose on certain headstocks. Another feature I like is the display, which is large, bright and very easy to use, showing white when you're not quite in tune and a very unambiguous bright green when you are. The unit comes in a small box which fits through your letterbox and has the battery separate so you need to fit it before use. This is a good thing as the last NS tuner I bought had the battery fitted and the unit was mounted on a card which allowed the buttons to be pressed accidentally in transit - thus was the battery flat on delivery. In all this is a good buy for £9 delivered from Amazon and a more affordable alternative to the competition. At this price you could have one for each of your many, many basses... 7.
Took the pictures under cover as it was raining, cover was indeed green.
Just curious really, still looks amazing.
 8.
Like any other decade, most of the interesting stuff wasn't popular enough to make to top 20 and get on to the compilation albums.
+1. I had a total blast late 70s/early 80s. The impact of Post Punk has never been properly acknowledged.
 9. Really nice. But why is the chrome green? Is the bass surrounded by foliage, or what?
 10. Wait, aren't you the guy who asked for advice before, and then just did what you were going to do anyway..?
 11.
How long is this tour?!
Reading the OP it would seem there isn't one (yet), the OP is postulating the wisdom (or otherwise) of quitting his day job to be a pro bass player. Or something like that, anyway.
 12.
I was born in 64 Mark but I just love certain 1966 Jazz basses, this one ticks a lot of boxes
Ah-ha, you're older than you look!
 13.
mike didn't
Oh yes he did.
 14.
...it`s a black/black/maple Precision...
So how many is that now, Lozz..? Three..?
 15.
I'm sure its just adjusting to the new neck shape
+1
...any pics of the new beast?
+1
 16.
link to a good one?
I use this, the D'Addario/Planet Waves Micro Headstock Tuner. It's tiny. You can hardly see it from the front of the bass, the LED display is easily visible on dark stages and you don't have to have your bass plugged in as it works by sensing vibrations through the headstock. Also you don't need any extra floor or board space, it can stay fitted to the bass at all times, and doesn't need extra leads or cables. Plus they are less than twelve quid, so I have one for each of my basses. 17.
Fanboi
Thpp!!
 18. I'll probably be accused of being a fanboi, but Barefaced make some very nice small, light cabs. Check out the Super Midget: http://barefacedbass...uper-Midget.htm EA also have one or two cabs that would suit, but I have no experience of them. Check out the Wizzy 10: http://www.eaamps.co...il.asp?REC_ID=4 And how could I forget Schroeder? 19.
Good point, I'm at the other end of that tunnel, and being 22 doesn't seem anything like as long ago as being 50 something must seem to a 22 year old!
When I was 22 I thought anyone over 30 was a waste of space and should be dead!! Mind you I'm 50-something now, and I still think that.
 20.
I'd say carry on treating music as a serious hobby, get yourself a well paid job, pay off the mortgage, retire early with a decent pension and then turn to music full time.
But that'll take the OP the best part of thirty years! He doesn't want to do that, he's 22!
 21. I know some people prefer a pedal, but have you tried a headstock tuner? I wouldn't use anything else.
 22. Hi James, this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. What I'd do (and what I mostly still do) is to set everything 'flat' (or what looks like flat) on your amp and guitar, i.e. everything in the 12 o'clock or centre-position. Then just concentrate on getting the volume level right. Over time you will know if you need to cut or boost any frequencies through experience. At this stage I'd leave the compressor out of the equation, that's a whole subject on its own right there. You may not even need to use it at all. There's no 'best' setting for an amp or bass EQ otherwise everyone would set their controls to it and that would be that! But they don't.
 23.
I did just that (at 30), giving up life in H M Customs and Excise to be a Pretty Thing...
That is cool!
It's an entirely natural desire to be a pro but that doesn't make you any better than many others who aren't and you may be stuck playing stuff you don't want to because you need the money - not that different from your 'real' job, in fact.
That is true! Like I said in another thread somewhere today, when something becomes an obligation and then a chore, it's basically a job and any fun you get out of it is killed stone dead. I toured in the late 70s and early 80s and again in the 90s and though it was mostly fun, I was always glad when it was over and I wouldn't want to do it extensively. I prefer recording and one-off gigs, or maybe a mini-tour, but that's it. In any case, as usual there's no guarantee that you'll make a decent wedge out of it.
 24. At 22, I'd say go for it if you get the opportunity. I don't think you'll have much trouble getting another office job if it all goes tits-up. Which it will.
