I did indeed have an RV4. Really good value for money. The neck felt extremely close to the dimensions on my P Bass. I converted the tone controls to one master tone and and a rotary coil tap. Great fun bass. I wish I hadn't moved it on.

They're *ok*, that's about it... but it feels "budget".
For and against! It would be best to try one. Failing that, get one anyway and move it on if I don't like it. I'm only considering it as a friend of mine had a Vantage and toured it all over the UK and Europe for about two years and it stood up very well, sounded good too. But plan 'A' (a G&L L2000 or M2000) is only about £150 extra and I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with one of those, so... I don't know! Depends how much loot is in the bass fund when the GAS gets too much for me!!

Rig shrinking - bass world surely leading the way?
...I suspect that if an Ampeg Stack had the same tone but was the same size and weight as a Fender guitar combo then bass players would not be so keen to try something new!
Well... you wouldn't need to, would you..? -
OK then, another sideways step - nut width 42mm... anyone tried these? They are quite affordable... MM-style humbuckers are switchable to singe-coil too, so should be possible to get J-type tones, if necessary. If you're not a 'traditionalist' they would probably be worth a look, but it's all about how they play and sound, obviously. -
I can't see guitarists buying a cab, then trying to work out what amp to buy to go with it.
Quite - that is totally beyond their mental capabilities. -
I'm not sure about bass players totally embracing new technology when a lot, if not most, (but not all) of us still prefer a Fender P bass.
Hey, there's no point in development for it's own sake when that technology has reached its logical limit! -
No shorts. Unnaceptable stage wear. Band t shirts too.
Absolutely correct, especially not when it's the whole fecking band!! Shorts for the bass player ONLY are JUST ABOUT permissible if it's REALLY HOT and the bass player has GREAT LEGS. Like I do.
Keyboards have been ironing-board sized since the early 80s.
That is true, but they couldn't convincingly replicate a Steinway or a Hammond at that time. -

Guitar amps have always been relatively small, if not exactly light. Not a lot has changed there as guitarists still like to use valve amps. I suppose if you're a drummer who gets on with an electric kit then that makes life easier. PA systems have definitely got a lot smaller over the last twenty years and keyboards have definitely shrunk to ironing-board size, so no need to haul a Steinway or a Hammond C3 or (God forbid) a Mellotron. My own journey has been one of trying to find the sound I got from an Ampeg rig back in the day but without the bulk and mass. My efforts so far have led to this 21012L, a Streamliner (now replaced with G-K MB500 Fusion) and a Zoom B1on... unbelievable heft and room-filling capability from a 2-foot-square rig. -
I hope Mr Discreet doesn't mind, but here is a link to his rather excellent for sale thread from a little while back. http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1
Nope, I don't mind at all. These are really excellent cabs. Don't be put off by the fact they are discontinued, these were once Alex's top of the range product. A great combination of size, weight, portability, solid heft without boom, clarity, definition and serious trouser-flap potential. Good for any genre. In an ideal world, this would definitely be one of the big hitters in my bass-cab arsenal, but like most people I don't have the funds or the space for such a collection. It's a really excellent all-rounder and a great one-cab solution. Buy it now!

Stuart Clayton? Isn't he brother of Adam? If so, there'll be a chapter on how to play eighths on one note for an hour. Mee-oww!! Edit: Well done though, I read very well throughout my school days and let it slide*, which is unforgivable. * See glissando.
Tort just does not go with that body, IMO.
There's a lot of colours tort doesn't go with - the exceptions being white, sunburst, natural and (at a push) fiesta red. It does not go with any kind of blue, green, black, grey or silver... IMHO, of course... -
Worst ever.. Spalted or burled. Rotten wood on your bass Sir?
I've seen spalted that I like. But yes, essentially it's diseased wood. -
I quite like the body shape. And even if you didn't are you really telling me that Warwick do not make worse body shapes?
I like the body shape, too. Warwick famously stole the Spector shape for their own basses. Stuart was furious, and still is. But yes, Warwick have certainly come up with some belters on their own account. Cough! *Dolphin!* Cough! -
See I would be ok with the buckeye burl on that bass if someone hadn't cut out the bodyshape in the dark while drunk
Funnily enough, that's exactly what Ned Steinberger did and Stuart Spector said, 'Love it!' A little while later, the head of sales at Warwick said, 'Bass guitar sales have nothing to do with body shape. We're going to copy the worst body shape on the market and I'll prove to you we can still sell millions of basses with it.' And that's how that happened. -
Welcome... haven't we already met?

Literally millions of CDs on eBay... just select 'Buy It Now', 'Free Postage' and possibly 'UK Only' filters, and off you go. -
