IMO the Sire is not even in the same league as the G&L abominations :-)
It is as far as crappy headstocks go...
-
Especially the one that says 'head-stock looks like crap'
Thpp! I know, but I've owned a Sire V7 so am used to it...

OK, then... lateral thinking. This G&L L2000 with maple neck, 1.75" (44.5mm) nut width, ash body, twin humbuckers switchable every which way and with a 3-band active/passive circuit coming in at £425..? I'm no fan of blueburst, but every other box is ticked... http://www.thomann.d..._premium_bb.htm

Does someone need to be "qualified" to criticise?
There's someone on here who I'm ignoring at the moment, he used an error of mine as the basis for a smart and sarcastic post. He obviously thought himself too clever to apologise.
If that wasn't me I sympathise with you. If it was me, you won't be able to see this post! -
How many basses have you bought off the Basschat marketplace?
I find it easier selling things on eBay, at least sold means sold there.
Not always the case, imo. I've not had any problems on here, but of course ymmv and all that.
This - word for word...
I've also had a good experience trading on here too - swapping amps backwards and forwards, that kind of thing... -

Seven... would have been about thirty had funds allowed it. God knows how many amps and cabs. Lots. -
I have read that Jazzes with P necks tend to have an interesting tone.
I was wondering about that. I have a theory that chunkier necks produce a thumpier sound, but have no proof, of course...

Just for laughs - worst bass colour ever...? Pics reqd.
That looks like Burgundy Mist to me - easily my favourite Fender custom colour.
So the OP posted yesterday evening and we both said the same thing at the same time..? -
Worst bass colour ever.
Isn't that Burgundy Mist? I like it. -
Hi discreet I have been experimenting this afternoon with my basses, I've put a P bass neck on my jazz body. Your more than welcome to give it a try to see what you think of the combo.
That's very kind of you, thanks! But I'm in London so it may be impractical... How does it play? I'm assuming a P neck is heavier than a J neck - are you noticing increased neck-dive?
-
Thanks to Rumple (Dave) for a link to a UK bass body builder... they asked for pics of the proposed body and I was fortunate enough to find these pics of what I want (on eBay US)... http://s734.photobucket.com/user/discreet-uk/slideshow/P%20Body%20Jazz It will be interesting to see what their quote is like.

Hate it. When I see people do it in the street I think, "Thanks for that, but I really didn't want to share your body fluids or be paddling about in them, you selfish fecking cretin.' I suppose we should be grateful we don't live in China.
Oh, go on... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Spector_Euro4_LX_SE_5_classic.html
Ohh... Yes, that is indeed very nice, but I want a P-width neck!
-
What about a white P bass with a Jazz pup?
You mean a P/J? Not the same as two Jazz pups... You can't blend a P pup with a J pup in the same way. IMHO, anyway.
-
See if I can find a pic. https://farm3.static...49ab04_o_d.jpg.
I can't seem to see this pic for some reason?
-
Because it's got bumhuckers and not jazzers. Thought you was wanting pups jazz-wise?
The important thing is that it's a twin-pup with a P-width neck. But yes, I do like the J-pup sound. But I believe you can get J-type pups that are twin coils. An active eq isn't absolutely essential, though I did find the sweepable mid on my V7 Jazz very useful.
You could buy my jazz fretless at £140, sell the neck...use the nice body, body has fender pick ups in too....what's not to like
Thanks very much for the heads-up, but I think I'm going to have to insist on a white (or white-ish) bass! I've already done the sunburst Jazz thing and I didn't like it too much to be honest. Yes, I'm shallow.
-
Mark, my Squier CV P neck is sitting in a cupboard at the moment. You are welcome to borrow the neck for a bit if you can find a body for it.
That's very kind of you Dave, I may well take you up on that - thanks very much.
-
I bet the tort-on-black didn't help much either!
Haha! No, it did not... I'll listen to that vid later, I'm on my crappy tablet atm.
-
There's a used one here for 80 quid if you fancy a look-see: http://www.musicalcircus.co.uk/stock/bassguitars/othermakes/westfield_jazz.html
That's interesting, thanks. But psychologically I can only cope with owning one black bass at a time...

'Hybrid' is one way of putting it...
...maybe for £85 but defo not £850.
I was thinking more £8.50. -
But would you be happy with the Jazz shape body? What about a P neck and P body with Jazz pups?
Well that's it, I don't particularly like the offset body, either! I've been trying to find a Precision body with routing for Jazz pups, but I can't find one in the UK and am reluctant to buy a US one, what with the delivery cost and customs duty shenanigans. I suppose I could get someone here to rout a P body for me. In which case I'd probably go for no pickguard and rear-routed control cavity. I also have a Michalik BP-4 active circuit (TonePump) from when I was involved in Spector Shenanigans, that would be very interesting... I could get my twin-pickup and active-bass GAS sorted in a P-Bass-shaped solution! I'd also like twin-coil J pickups, which I suppose begs the question, 'why don't you just buy an active G&L M2000 with twin humbuckers - it's got a P-type neck, you don't have to mess about, and it'll be cheaper..?' It's a very good question.
If you've got ears you can have an opinion.
Yes, everyone's got 'em... How's it going, Ad? -
If your Precision neck donor bass happened to be a Matt Freeman in black and the Jazz neck so happened to be maple (and the whole thing came in under 9lbs...) I know someone who might be interested...
I'll certainly bear that in mind.

Here's a thing - I have GAS for that Jazz bass sound, but I don't want to make my oft-repeated mistake of buying a Jazz only to move it on because I don't get on with the neck. So... As an experiment I'm thinking of buying a Squier P and a Squier J and swapping the necks to see if I get on with a Jazz with a P neck. If successful, do you think anyone would be interested in the remaining P with a Jazz neck? And can you see any problems or pitfalls with this ruse? Has anyone tried it?
