One can only hope that, like the 80s gated reverbed snare, it lasts no more than a decade or two.
Holy crap, you listen to 80s hits today and it's just unbelievably annoying! As is the rest of the production. Strident, tiring, swamped in reverb... horrible! Something to do with the advent of digital audio, perhaps. Anyway, I digress...
I'd much sooner see / hear someone having a go in delivering their 'Art' than playing it safe.
That IS more important than merely 'singing in tune'. If all the risk, danger and excitement is removed from a musical performance you are left with One Direction.
...any criticism of a female vocalist is invalid if it comes from a man...
Women would certainly agree with that. I don't, however.

Nicely done. I yearn to be a V8 owner, but for the usual constraints.
I'm a bit worried that we find it OK to criticize women more easily than men.
No misogyny from this Basschatter. I constantly criticise everyone across a broad demographic, me. Kanye is no singer either, imho.
I'm a bit worried that we find it OK to criticize women more easily than men.
Please join my campaign to ignore the US spellchecker we seem to have on this forum. How hard would it be to have a UK one fitted??
...it seems to me Florence can't sing.
That's it right there. Some people can sing off-key in a pleasing way; Florence is not one of them. In her defence (really, spellchecker? You want 'defense'? Oh, please!), a live performance should be just that, live. You have to be there. Which is why TV coverage of Glasto misses the point spectacularly. And do we really need the BBC to show it simultaneously on THREE channels when I want to watch Family Guy and American Dad? I think not...

World's greatest rockstar - not Kanye, but who tho?
Hang on, Kanye West, along with other hip-hop giants like Jay-Z, Snoop, Fiddy and Pitbull ARE this generations rock stars.
Depends on your definition of 'rock', really. To me a rock star is someone who performs rock music. Those you mention do not. -
The only thing we can all agree on is that Kanye is a prick.
Yes, we can agree on that all right. In any case what he does isn't 'rock' by any reasonable definition of the word. -

Shocked and sad too. Another hero gone. Seminal, influential and totally unique.
Had a dream I had a Limelight P in exactly the same finish and condition as discreet's reliced J of yore, tuned BEAD.
That's weird, I was thinking of an early-60s Limelight P in aged white with a Spitfire guard... Annoyingly, I also have GAS for a G&L Tribute M-2000 in white. Looks like a bargain to me and thus is more likely!
-
Fantastic! It looks in rather better condition than the seller was implying... should have snagged it when I could!! Interestingly, my nut is also over-filed, especially at the D string... I also imagined it had been strung BEAD. Wonder what that's all about? But as you say, the zero fret makes it work, I'm getting no rattling so will leave well alone. These basses are a total bargain. You'd never get workmanship like this new without spending a considerable wedge. They are serious players' basses and sound totally amazing. Nice one!
-
Very well done, Jack. I'm as envious as a very envious thing, despite the refin and despite the fact I already have a lovely Marathon in perfect original condition with 'The Peel'. I just like white basses, I don't know if I've ever told anyone that... good news on the weight too, about the same as mine. I'm pleased, as I don't think anyone believed me when I said mine was eight pounds! We'll need your views on how it plays, obviously... Marathon necks are amazing and one of the best things about them. The only downside really is that it seems you won't be moving this on anytime soon! But if you ever do, I publicly claim first dibs!! A good area for collecting, imho - affordable, hand-built vintage basses from the 70s and early 80s... where else can you get a decent, playable example for less than £400? Nowhere, that's where!
Some cheap guitars can still be excellent players, and hopefully this one will be great for you - HNGD.

I don't meant to side-track the thread, HNGD!

Me neither! And HNGD from me.

Happy NBD. It's good to see inexpensive instruments with maple fretboards.
Thanks folks... it's a good guitar. If I were going to be a guitarist in a band I think I'd want something better (probably just for snobby decal reasons), but at the moment my biggest problem is down to being very rusty on the old six-string, and I can't blame the guitar for that! I bought it purely for home use, recording, developing chordal ideas and songs and general noodling... for which it is perfect, so job done. Having said that I am quite surprised at just how good it is at the price point - it's possible to get the action very low indeed if that's your thing, and if you were a bit more serious about it than I am it would be a great platform for modding as the neck is straight, fast and smooth and plays very nicely. Mind you, if you were a bit more serious about it you'd probably buy a Fender anyway, so... In short, if you're on a budget and you want a guitar then don't be concerned about the low price of HB axes... they're good!
