Oof! Well... this was a very dangerous thread to look at...

You know you got it bad when you get GAS for something you already have!!

As another potential mid-life crisis drummer, I'm interested in this too. Yes all right, more like three-quarter or even four-fifths life crisis, but what the hell, who's counting?

Got an old piano - for free! Must now learn to play it.

Had one very similar for years but it became a kind of hotel for rodents. Just sayin'... Nice instrument though, especially for nowt! -
It's funny. Out of everyone, those who most seem to undervalue the electric bass are... other bloody 'musicians'. Yet it's the punters who seemingly know no better who react well to the bass, even if they don't understand what it is - it's fundamental to a song and gets them moving. My 2p.

100Hz. Boom!
...I know of at least one band whose current line up consists of two of the original members from their 1980s heyday and a handful of session guys. Despite the fact that the hired hands have been 'with' the band for a number of years and done tons of UK and international touring and festivals, our friends in American immigration refused visas for everyone except the two founder members on the grounds that there were plenty of American session guys who could do the same job. Said band had to go to the states a week early to rehearse with their new Yankee band mates!...
This attitude would make sense if you're talking about office staff or caterers or cleaners... but musicians? Presumably the band chose these particular guys for their specific skill sets. Typical of the American authorities that they consider music to be entirely quantifiable and standardised. Which of course it is not. And when will this forum use a UK spellchecker? I DON'T WANT TO SPELL 'STANDARDISED' WITH A 'Z', FFS!!

It's very true that sound is subjective and you should listen with your own ears... it's difficult to describe sound in words. But also choosing a cab (or anything else) on the strength of a shop audition can be misleading too. The only place you'll get a proper idea is by using the cab in the situation that you bought it for. So if you're going to gig with it, you should gig with it and then make a decision. This is why Alex at Barefaced does a month-long trial session at the end of which you can send the cab back if you don't like it. I've proved to myself over and again that how a cab sounds at home, played solo, has no bearing on how it will pan out live with drums and guitars. What sounds middly and nasal (for example) at home could well be the sound you're looking for live and fit in perfectly at a gig. This makes it difficult to choose a cab to say the least! And of course your mileage may vary and you'll be happy with the CN212. I sincerely hope you are, but felt I must stick my 2 pence-worth in. Again.
Uh oh.... Well at least I had the pleasure of walking out the shop with it!!! So you got one then????? Much cheaper?
No, but at the moment it looks like that's where I'm going to buy it from. May have to wait a week or two until I get another acquisition sorted out.
You mean you don't have that set up already? Can't believe I was even talking to you! Sounds like you'll love this pedal mate.
Had the pleasure of such a rig back in the day... I was younger, stronger and more bendy. Plus - we had road crew. Yes, it sounds right up my street. Just have to find the best deal now...
It feels weird buying a high tech pedal that gives a lo fi sound, but there is a depth and naturalness that I really like in this pedal, pure old school and not for the modern as its not as 'wow' as some may expect. Doubt it'll be everyone's thing, you know?
Thanks for this... I might just get one and give it a go... I like old school and I find pedals with a 'wow' factor are generally unusable. I'm not into FX per se, anything pedular I buy tends to be used as an always-on pre-amp. Of course what I should do is buy an Ampeg SVT CL and an 8X10 for my P bass and have done with it!
...just been incredibly busy with my own band...
Have you told your current band you might be leaving to join another band in the States..?
My spiritual advisor asks if anyone has even checked out the band's music?
No, but my spiritual advisor said not to, as it would probably give me a headache.

Bought some strings from Rob, very smooth deal and fast delivery. Recommended!
...don't have a Neve at home to compare it to, though I did recorded through a 70's one years ago, the pedal tone is very old school and reminds me of what's it's supposed to be.
Sounds like just the sort of thing I'd be into. I've listened to some YouTube Beta vids, but of course these reviews always have some arse playing in a style that I'd never play myself, so it's hard to tell what's happening. Seems well worth a punt though, thanks.

Flight case?

There's a brand by JHS called Performance Percussion, I think... maybe it's one of theirs..?

Haven't heard anything from the OP for a few days... You don't think...?

Nice one, Cyril. There, that's showing my age.

Picked up up a bass from Geoff today - the deal was done swiftly and I'm now a very happy bunny. Pity the traffic was so dire, but I can't really blame Geoff for that... Sorry about the flying visit, Geoff - I would have loved to spend the afternoon talking all things bass, but the current mrs discreet had other ideas. As usual... Geoff's a lovely chap and I would have no hesitation in dealing with him again. He even gave me a discount on the price of the bass to put towards my fuel bill, and you can't say fairer than that. Top BassChatter.

NBD - Sandberg California TT4, soft relic jazz
discreet replied to bassbiscuits's topic in Bass Guitars
Yes, like that. The level of relic is very subtle, like that too. -
...plumping for my bitsa.
Going to use this as a euphemism if that's OK with you?
