Typical lame Warwick shenanigans. Spector players use powerful motorcycles.
I think a lot of what gets you close to the right tone for a song comes more from how you physically play the bass line itself, as opposed to the particular bass you're using, or amp e.q., fx etc...
I'd go along with that. 'It's in the fingers' is a cliche for sure, but like a lot of cliches there's some truth in it.

My advanced OCD would require black pickup covers, but it really looks the business - nicely done.

I've owned this bass and at this price it's a total no-brainer. The Ebonol board is a joy and the neck is dead straight, plays beautifully. It's possible to get the action very low, if you like that kind of thing. The 3-band circuit is very useful too, sounds great. Could easily be your go-to bass, no problem.
I remember the first time I heard some Linn Isobarik speakers in a demo room in a hi-fi shop run by a mate of mine. Staggeringly good. Mind you this was part of a £24,000 system — in 1990s prices.
Ah yes, I lusted after these at the time, but budget constraints meant I settled for a pair of Linn Keilidhs, which I still have - and they sound totally amazing. I still can't afford high-end Linn gear though - rock-star spending power has thus far eluded me.
Pretty crowded.
Hi Dave... see anyone you know..?
Have you seen the Peavey Valveking II 100w head on the Gear4Music website... dunno how heavy it is but at £299 quite a lot of amp for that money
I was looking at that only t'other day. It's less than 19kg... also, Peavey have a rep for reliability. But we seem to have wandered off topic, so maybe this should be done elsewhere.
Yep - its what the Beatles used at Che stadium
Er, yes... I have to say that most venues I play are a bit smaller.
I thought the big problem with isobaric arrangements was the loss in sensitivity — down 6dB. Don't modern drivers essentially solve the extension/cabinet size problem that isobaric designs attempted to address?
You're probably right, as my technical knowledge of isobaric systems is zero. I do find the concept of being able to cram two drivers into the space more or less occupied by one driver very attractive, but of course there's always a price to be paid and the laws of physics usually turn up to spoil the party.
Ambient, any chance you could add some more stuff to your sig? It doesn't entirely fill the screen yet.

It's not a huge difference but the Fender Super Bassman is just under 30kg. They also make a 100w version at 22kg. And the new Ampeg V4B, also 100w, is 18.5kg.
!00 valve watts is more than adequate for bass in most situations. I had a Burman 100-watter and it was incredibly loud. I only ever had the volume up around 9 o'clock and this in a rock band with a silly loud guitarist and drummer.

Your age is not against you! Nice bass, I had one of those for a while. Love the Ebonol board.
You need to try the Mesa Prodigy. I know it wasn't for me, but it definitely meets your second requirement!
I'm aware of it, but haven't tried one.
...you are never going to get a light all valve amp - too many transformers.
True, but it's all relative. My last valve amp was 35kg, I'm sure it must be possible to find one lighter than that.
It's more of an anticipation or a relaxing of your playing.
It's definitely a 'feel' thing.
I tend to suspect the majority of advocates of the term have a bit of emperors new clothes isms about them.
When I was doing a lot of programmed music in the 90s and 00s 'quantisation' was a huge subject and very important to the feel and rhythm of a song. The 'feel' of one song can be overlaid on another. There are quantisation templates that can be applied to any song which give different results in each case. But If playing on the beat is working for you, then leave it at that.
Yep. Sooner or later you get to a place where you have to start thinking more about your playing because the gear side of things is done.
Woah! This is definitely the wrong forum for that! We're down the rabbit hole now, people! Seriously though, all I want is a decent all-valve amp that doesn't burst my scrotum when I pickup it up, then I'm done.
Surely, as a bassist, you should be listening to the drummer?
Yeah, what he said! Thhppppp!
-
....I only buy basses to be played and they have to be better than what I already have so my gear just evolves and improves.
That's what I tried to do, but it turned out the bass I had in the first place was difficult to improve upon.
-
Hmmmm ... helpful if you're a drummer, I'd guess.
What, this isn't a drum forum?? Then why are there so many drummers on here?? I posted that vid purely because I thought the concept may be easier to grasp for the uninitiated if a more visual approach was employed. And if that's not a pretentious sentence then I don't know what is.
-
Sometimes I use one bass to play ahead of the beat, and a different one to play behind it.
Yes, I notice you've yet to buy a bass with which to play ON the beat.
Is this silly? Am I just a romantic old fool..?
Yes, and yes. But I completely understand where you're coming from. Apologies for going on about it, but since I sold my 76P four years ago I've had many basses through my hands and some of them have been truly remarkable. But in the end they were all missing something essential, i.e. they weren't MY 76P... so when I got the chance to buy it back, I did everything possible to do so and am now more pleased and happy than I have any right to be over the acquisition of what is after all a basic P bass! However, what I learnt from owning lots of different basses in that time made me appreciate just how good my 76P is and it's now set up within an inch of its life and it plays brilliantly and sounds magnificent. Oh, and it looks great too! And my bass GAS... isn't gone (of course) but it has subsided significantly. At least for now...

Obviously one of the previous owners removed it for an unknown reason. If Bass Direct are listing this as a rare 83 Elite, then that is what you'll get. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Holt , who goes there ?
Friend or Enema..?
I can't believe you have managed to restrain yourself since 22 April!!!
Well... I approached an ostrich the day after and have been in intensive care for a while.

Right, are we all done with this? Because I'm going to use 'approaching the chicken' as a euphemism.
