Agreed, an undisciplined drummer can certainly be a huge problem live - suddenly all your carefully-crafted songs are at the same bloody tempo!

Precison Pickup Recommendation for 70s type sounds
discreet replied to Lozz196's topic in Accessories and Misc
Wow Lozz I think you'll love that bass! I'd have been all over it had I not just bought my 76P! -
This may help? http://youtu.be/GlcSuJlOwJ0

Yes. I'd say this was definitely behind the beat, too: http://youtu.be/ABc8ciT5QLs

No, it's a thing. I won't attempt to explain it, though.
We once auditioned a vocalist who turned up with an acoustic guitar, we asked if he intended playing it, and he replied, "no, I can't play guitar, I just like to have it with me all the time", and just stood it in the corner of the room. Just before we started, he asked if he could go to the reception for some food and drink as he had come straight from work, he came back to the room with two rounds of sandwiches, crisps, chocolate bars, and two cans of drink. He couldn't sing either, so he didn't get the job, but when we went to pay for the room, we found out that he had put his food and drink on the tab, so we had to pay an extra £9.50
Another total plank!!

New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
I'm glad mine didn't come with a singed plate.
Mine has a signature, but there's no sign of burning or scorching. -
Ahem! I'm really rather fond of Dire Straits. Care to step outside?
I saw them in 1977 or 1978 (before they were signed) at the recently-opened Swindon Oasis - they supported Talking Heads (who I had gone to see) and I had no clue who they were. They sounded like a pub rock band to me. Talking Heads were totally fabulous. At that time I did not think DS were quite as fabulous, and nothing they did after that changed my mind. So, thpp! *Runs away thumbing nose - crashes into lamp-post - is rendered unconscious - instant karma* Edit - Many years later the Gallagher brothers saw Inspiral Carpets there and used the name of the venue for their equally unremarkable pub-rock band. Not many people know that.
...you'd be showing him the door after twenty minutes of noodling.
I'd be showing him the door much sooner than that if he started playing Sultans of Swing.
If anyone has used Lakland flats and another set which they feel sounds better please let me know.
I used to use Lakland Joe Osborn signature flats which I liked a lot, but I prefer the sound of La Bellas. Totally subjective, of course. I also like Fender 9050ML, but still prefer La Bellas. They are a classic sound. Horses for courses and all that...
Do strings lose tension with age?
I think they do, but only if they are played regularly. Much less so if the bass is kept under the bed for years. Or in uncle's loft.
Am i the only one that would like to see Lemmy playing a bass that colour?
No, but YOU suggest it to him.
...his musical taste is very different fom the band - Dire Straits is not in our set list, and will never be as long as I'm part of it.
Oh dear. I think that's all you need to know right there, isn't it? ...In my humble opinion, and all.
-
Yes, but he could have done that and brought his plank couldn't he?
Sounds like he is a plank.
Sounds like he auditioned you and has decided he wants you all in his band.

@Discreet...it's safely stored (away from building dust) and missing you...
Agghhh!! I keep thinking I've got bass GAS under control, then..! PM sent...
Yes, I found Chromes to be on the stiff side too. I've got Sadowsky flats at the moment which are much softer feeling than Chromes in the same gauge, though I haven't had a set of standard LaBellas to compare to.
Phew, maybe I'm not nuts after all. La Bellas certainly aren't the floppiest out there, but any perceived problem with 'tension' is surely offset by their incredible tone capabilities... if it's that 'flats' sound you're after, then La Bellas on a P-Bass played fingerstyle will get you there. Having said that, they respond well to pick-playing too. I'm no Carpenter's fan, but check out Joe Osborn's playing on this vocal/bass/drum mix of 'We've only Just Begun', for example...
Quite possibly the nicest bass I've ever seen. How do I tell the wife that I've got another bass and therefore we can't have a new bathroom without losing some vital body parts ?
Be positive. Depending on which body parts you lose, you may not actually need a bathroom, so you can buy the bass...
Surely this isn't a string problem.
I tend to agree... I've just strung my P with La Bella 760FS and I love 'em. Perhaps I'm mad, but they don't seem particularly 'high tension' to me... not compared with Fender 9050ML for example. I seem to be able to bend them with ease when necessary... I did tighten up the truss rod slightly, but that was largely to lower the action as I find it possible to get the action lower with flats than with the rounds I had fitted previously. Conversely the flats I found most alarming tension-wise were Chromes, which seemed like solid steel bars and pulled the neck into relief... obviously my experience doesn't correlate with those here!

TC Group bought by Behringer (including TC Electronic)
discreet replied to 72deluxe's topic in General Discussion
It certainly won't do 3000W continuously. I seem to remember that Behringer measure maximum power using a 20mS burst - not very meaningful for bass.
I'm sure it wouldn't do 1500W continuously. Luckily we don't play constantly at full volume... well I don't, anyway. -
I find my seven string easy enough to play. I'd like to try a 9 string someday. I think that would be all the range I'd ever need.
What IS the range on this? Presumably one of the strings equates to the Low 'E' on a 4-string?
-
I haven't watched that clip because I can see from the thumbnail that he's slapping! Why do people demo basses by slapping? It annoys the pants off me. I want to hear the tone of the bass. Hrumph!
Well of course I had to play it - he does do a fair bit of fingerstyle in the vid to be fair.
-
So probably not rare then?
No, but I did have a L@@K!

I'll just make the obligatory 'ironing board' comment before anyone else does. Don't see how you could make this look much better, really... and that's my subjective opinion. Just out of interest, how does one play one of these? Like a zither, or a lyre or something?
