I don't like sunburst, but strangely I have GAS for the honeyburst version...
-
Ew. Thanks.

Um... is it an Overwater..?

This thread is valid. Everything goes in cycles on here. New members join the forum daily. You can't expect them to trawl through about eight years' worth of old threads to find an answer to their questions, can you?
If your pots are noisy...change them. You are just delaying the inevitable by using contact cleaners.
I've used contact cleaners precisely three times on my bass pots, they are nearly 40 years old. I can't change them - my bass wouldn't be original then, would it? *Gasp of horror*
TB says FMIC MIJ RIP? BS IMO, but YMMV.
Brief yet informative.
When do you have time to post on Talkbass?
Cloning. There's another 50 of me in the shed.

Fender Japan Kaput? There's a rumour on TalkBass (yes, I know) that Fender Japan is downing tools and there will be no more new MIJ Fenders... when current stock is sold, that will be it. Before I waste the rest of the day trawling the internetz for info, can anyone confirm or deny? I did a quick BC search but found nowt. Of course that doesn't mean anything, so if anyone can point me to a relevant thread on here I'd be very grateful. It being TB, I'm inclined to think it's BS, but you never know. I thank you!

Take it home and leave it lying around. I have quite a collection of hard cases and gig bags lurking throughout the house, to fool the current mrs discreet and keep her confused. Some of 'em may have basses in and some of them may not. One or two may have basses in that she hasn't even seen...
1966 Fender Jazz in Sherwood green with rosewood board & pearl blocks, matching headstock, butterbean tuners, light relic - BUT - it going to be a PJ, with vol/blend/tone, and an ashtray over the front P pickup, with a custom pearl jazz pickguard.
Sounds very interesting. Can't wait to see the pics. And I bet you can't wait to see the bass.

WD40 isn't a good idea as it attracts clag and goit. Servisol Super 10 is a much better bet. A quick squirt and move the controls through their full travel about twenty times, and you should be good to go.
Have you tried playing the whole song instead?
It's probably a medley...
Get yourself a good, solid Bass sound, don't screw up the groove and the adoring millions (and your bandmates) will love you forever. Possibly.
This... as long as your core tone is OK it's much more important that you're playing well. You can have the most appropriate tone possible for a given song, but if you're playing like a mentally-ill yeti wearing mittens then it's all in the bog anyway.

Best Precision type bass for about £500

G&L are very underrated basses. You can get a Leo Fender-era SB2 for £5/600 if you keep your eyes open. -
Nice playing . It'd be pretty cool if your band did a metal version of toac IMHO
Thanks, I'll suggest it. Don't see why not!
Great playing and great tones there Mark.
Thanks Lozz!
Loverly bass, hang on to the bloody thing this time
This is only leaving my possession when I've shuffled off this mortal coil and joined the choir invisible! Makes you think though, doesn't it? This bass will outlive me. I wonder if it will become hundreds of years old, like an orchestral instrument? -
Incredible bass. Congratulations on getting it back!
I thank you... Here's an *AUDIO FILE* of me playing it... I'm no Bob Babbit for sure, but hopefully you'll get an idea of the natural warmth and depth of this bass and see (or hear) exactly why I missed it! Recorded direct into an Edirol UA5 into FL Studio 11, no FX or processing. I'll put the link into the OP, as well. -
1 bass, plectrum, fingers, tone control and move hand about. 2756 different bass sounds.
Pretty much what I did in a covers band. Only I didn't use the tone control or move hand about, so I only got 1653 different sounds.
Seeing as the mark is on the center line of the body, I wonder if it's been caused during the handling in the painting process? I believe they inserted dowels around that point and then cut them off.
I missed this... yes, that is possible I suppose. I'll do a bit more research. This mark has been bugging me for years. I wonder if it's worth sending a picture of it to Fender? They must have some idea of how it got there. Has anyone ever seen anything like it on any other bass? -
I reckon about one more page until this morphs into a P vs J/ Flats v rounds / maple v rosewood debate!
Wait, what..?! I thought we had this all sorted out: P bass, flats, maple? We'd agreed, hadn't we??
-
Kudos for going back to chrome. That's a nice tort guard too and the sunburst is reminiscent of early Fender examples.
-
...a Fender used by James Jamerson would probably be different
It certainly would. From what I understand about him and his bass, it would be practically unplayable.
-
Sweet! I've been toying with the idea of a Stingray too, but once again I'm skint! Nice score.
I heard from experts down the pub that these '70's Fenders are on the heavy side. Can you give us an accurate weight for the bass?
70s basses are thought to be boat anchors, but I think that's more Jazz than Precision... according to the bathroom-scales method, which I admit isn't that accurate, this bass weighs dead on eight pounds. Which is exceptionally light and may not be the case, but it certainly feels much lighter than my Sire MM V7 Jazz. I'm going to order luggage scales today, so I'll update or confirm that weight ASAP.
That is all.
Just about sums it up, really!
...Plus i'm lazy
Me too, I can't be cleaning when there's other things to be doing...
Might I suggest...
An ingenious device, but it would play merry hell with my Chalfonts. If you could invent a Chalfont-removing machine, however... -
What would you use to clean the body (without disturbing the delicious custardiness)?
I suppose you could give it a quick wipe over with a very mild detergent solution just to get the clag and goit off it. But clag and goit are where its at as far as I'm concerned... pull through with oily rag..? -
New cheap Marcus Miller endorsed range of basses - Sire
Blimey, I just looked on Thomann and all Marcus Miller V7's are on request. They don't even seem to have any B-stock
There's currently an Ash 4-string and an Alder 4-string available as B-Stock, £305 and £270 respectively.
