1.
Slightly off topic here, but what really grinds my gears with many online comparisons is the demonstrators belief that bass players only slap and play with plectrums...
And also that it's necessary to play a dozen notes a second. I'd prefer to hear some sustained, fingerstyle notes so you can actually get some bearing on what the bass actually sounds like... I suppose really a better demonstration would be to record the bass being played in a band situation so you could get an idea of it in concert.
  2.
I've never had one break on me, am I doing it wrong?
Yes, you've prevented your Gibsons from ever falling over! Simply lean one against your rig when the drummer's setting up, et violin!
  3.
Isn't it 99% metal influenced (strings, coils, pots, and wiring etc)
I think so... type of pickups, electronics and pickup placement. And strings. If you really want to change the sound of an existing bass, just fit different strings. I think a lot of perceived problems with 'tone' are down to string choice.
  4.
...I was so shocked and knocked out, I had to run out of the shop quick...
Was there a music stand in there..?
  5.
I was after a jazz ...I couldn't bring myself to buy it - it looked horrible sh*tty brown and I wouldn't be seen in public with it round my neck

I just don't like Sunburst or Black!
I don't like shltty brown, sunburst or black either. In fact (and I'm sure I've never said this on here before), I only really like white basses. Or at least basses that are white, arctic white, olympic white, blonde, vintage white, antique white, cream, ivory, bone, seashell, flax, vanilla or linen. So quite a wide range to choose from, really...
  6.
Not to be confused with grate sex, which is when you do it in front of the fireplace.
Or Tate Sex, which is when you do it in an art gallery.
  7.
Did you never think of simply not liking the woman instead? Then you might have been able to enjoy the Eagles.
I didn't like the bloody woman! We even had hate-sex while drunk. And there is no way I could enjoy the Eagles, then or now!!
  8.
I'm sure they'd just carry on without me.
That would be funny, but I think you're probably right.
  9.
The only thing I could think of that would stop the gig is a completely dead desk. Anything else I'm sure I could get round.
What about a completely dead bass player?
  10.
Tell that to the many Gibson owners who have suffered broken headstocks over the years.
I really think that's a Gibson thing, not an angled headstock thing. Spectors aren't known for headstock breakage for example. And anyway, isn't that more a Gibson g**t*r thing rather than a Gibson bass thing?
  11. The main problem I have with otherwise perfect basses is colour.
  12.
...an irrational dislike of non-angled headstocks...
Having played Fenders for years this never bothered me. It was only when I played a few basses with angled headstocks I realised what a crappy design a non-angled headstock really is, and how it's basically a cost/mass-production issue. But I still love Fenders. *Sigh*
...and oval pickups!
Blooargh!!
  13.
...nowhere to rest your thumb...
This. Given that it has to have pickups, basses with nowhere to rest your thumb must be deliberately designed to be that way! Why??
  14. Hi Dan, welcome to the forum. It can be fun here sometimes, honest...

    Hey there.

No such thing as a daft question, but you may get some daft answers...
  16. Not really, I totally agree. Basing a decision about purchasing an electric bass (for example) on a YouTube performance is equally a waste of time for exactly the same reasons - too many parameters and too many differences or deficiencies in audio equipment to make an informed decision. Though I do understand that some people have little else to go on if impractical to compare instruments/gear in meatspace.
  17.
Hi all , so happy with this new colour I mixed for my friend john Dawson, more pics on my page DWilson Guitars
Nice! Something a bit Spector Coda about it. Lovely.
  18. Excellent in every way. Great playing and technique. The ghostliest of ghost notes.
  19.
I STILL kept looking forlornly at the Road Worn jazz sat on it's stand, but that's the price to pay when you have 3 wonderful playable basses
O brave new world, that has such a lot of bass guitars in it! An embarrassment of riches, and so on and so forth!
  20.
My Mesa toobers! the trusty old 400 I've had forever, and now the Strategy. Both loaded with KT88's.
What a great way to start a Sunday! Outstanding!
  21.
Isn't this a JB-2? An SB-2 is a PJ bass
It is a JB2. Though the older vintage SB2 has Jazz-style pups and the newer one is a PJ. In any case, this is a total bargain and should be snapped up!
  22.
I imagine many got the needle today.
I like what you did there.
  23. None of this is helping my Spector GAS. It's going to have to wait for a bit while I deal with my Fender GAS...
  24.
I'm not a big fan of Jazz basses (except the sound)... yet I own 6 of them: Three Fender 75RI, a fantastic Squier, a beautiful J&D, and what was my first real bass: a Vintage brand clone. I dislike their thin necks, the huge bodies... but they sound great and look great too. Oh, and a Cort MM/J which to all intents is a sort of a "super Jazz".
This is very much a 'Super Jazz' too. Our opinions on Jazz basses are similar. After nearly 40 years of love/hate with Jazzes am I finally coming to terms with them, and this MM Jazz is the bass that helped me to do so. Your Jazz collection is impressive, but you could certainly replace some (if not all!) with this Marcus Miller Jazz, because it does everything a Jazz Bass should do, and more. It actually reminds me of my Spector Euro in a lot of ways too, which sounds strange, but anyone who has played both with know what I'm talking about.
But I loved the clip, can't get it out of my mind now.
I thank you!
  25.
Is it gammon or bacon?
Baps and buns. Shall we get out of the Limelight thread and do this puerile crap via PM now, d'you think?
