2.
£11k Fodera?
Surprisingly, no! Though I can see why you'd think so as I'm always singing the praises of Fodera on this forum, aren't I?
 3.
I felt the default volume level of the pre amp was set too high. It was very easy to distort my input channel if i turned the bass boost up more an a few notches. Its very, very versatile though, although much more than ill ever need or use.
I see where you're coming from, Dave. However, I've left mine as it is - I think if you boost the bass and you're rattling the windows it's God's way of telling you that you've dialled in enough low end. This equates to a 16th of a turn clockwise through my rig... but through a Turbosound PA, just having everything flat results in a fine sufficiency of everything and the earthquake control can be left well alone!
 4. As far as P basses go, I've found maple boards... not to be brighter as such, but to be a bit mid-scooped compared with rosewood, which seem to have more going on in the mids. But of course this could be the effects of slightly different pickups or a hundred other factors, so a proper test would be very interesting.
 5.
You could be right! I'd find it pretty hard to settle on just one now. Years ago I had no problem. I guess I got caught up in all that capitalism in the end
I used the same bass for 34 years perfectly happily, then I discovered BassChat five years ago... and the madness began. I'm seriously considering going back to one bass and what's more, that same one bass...
 6.
...I've hit the daft problem that I now have three fabulous basses to gig. I've done the Alembic, Rick, Custom Shop, SEI and others, yet these three fabulous, playable, giggable basses are all Mexican Fenders. ...I would happily just use the Road Worn every gig. Yet I do't get on with Rosewood boards...
After years of bass shenanigans, I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I actually need only one bass. The others are superfluous and represent the effects of consumer capitalism. Comrade. Thpp!
 7.
...with the rabbit at one end and the tortoise at the other!
Sounds like one of my club sandwiches...
 8.
Still one string more than needed!
Two strings more than needed if some people's views on bass playing are to be considered...
 9.
Cool novelty but not much else I imagine.
Exactly my view on 5-strings. Thpp!
 10.
Whitney effing Houston. If I hear her over-shrill screechy voice I can feel the rage welling up from within.
Oh God, yes. And the way she's held up as the epitome of top-quality singing! Horrible, strident, shouty, overblown and overdone braying with the subtlety of a howler monkey bellowing down a well!
 11.
It made it onto Classic Albums so it must be good! :-)
Stop it! It wasn't good then and it isn't good now! Mick Hucknall is a terrible potato-headed Tamworth with a voice like the dying breath of a lemming! Still, he did put the 'soul' in 'arsehole', so there is that.
 12.
I thought it did the job very well and had a nice sound with a bit of mid range growl.....i liked it.
Thank you, sir... here is a recording of our opening number taken from the desk at last night's gig - it's a bit rough all round, but hopefully you can hear the lovely warm bounce it has... I wasn't sure it would be suitable for rock/indie/blues-type music, but it is, in my opinion. Though you can't quite EQ out the very last of Marcus, so it still has a trace of that Jazz growl in it!
 13.
You look worried there
That is true, but I can't remember exactly why now.
 14.
WOW.... Straight out of the box it sounded bold and resonant unplugged which is always a good sign! Then I plugged it in and instant even tones rang out with plenty of punch where required... THEN I flicked the active switch... and had to go and lie down...
Those are very positive comments indeed from a [s]fussy bugger like you[/s] discerning bass guitar aficionado such as yourself! Seriously though, can you see how the V7 circuit put me in mind of the TonePump?
 15. Or front man is a borderline mentalist, so he does command attention, even if it's not the sort of attention we would necessarily like... He does deflect attention away from the rest of us - a good thing as we're quite boring really.
 16.
Sorry Mark, I actually quite like this one!!! Go on, give it a listen I dare you..... https://www.youtube....h?v=FH8W-Labb24
Agghh, nooooo!!!! The embodiment of early 90s blue-eyed soul. It's fairly inoffensive to the casual listener, but I tell you this - if you listen to it on constant rotation for about three months straight you won't want to hear it ever again, so I'll pass if it's all the same to you.
 17.
Has this happened to anyone? Room full of people come out to see you and you can't play the gig?
Yes, back in the day when having live drumming was seen as old-hat. Our electronic replacement lost its memory and we had no way of sorting it out. Personally embarrassing for me as I'd gone to great lengths to ensure a good crowd. 'Real' drummers have their faults and will also forget things to a certain extent, but generally not so badly as to be unable to play at all! Put me right off using programmed beats or backing tracks or click tracks or any of that mularkey to this day. I say if you can't play it live then don't do it!
 18.
Just a shame we're not playing post avantgarde Swedish Vegetarian grindcore metal.

Aw, that's my second-favourite metal!

...after post pre modern gothic christian hardcore jazz metal?
No - zinc.
 19. Welcome, Nigel of Devon...
 20.
A friend of mine put one on his Fender Aerodyne Jazz. Tonally different? Not really (from what I recall), but it did increase the sustain a great deal. The thing is that on the standard Fender hardware, they have very small contact points, which are just the bottom of the alan-headed screws for adjusting the saddle. When you play a note, it's purely a vibration. Losses mean that a vibration won't sustain for as long. Of course, there will always be losses (because physics), but the easiest way to minimise losses on a bass is to have a bridge with less "play" in it. The BBOT bridges have a lot of play in them.
Don't want to make this into a 'thing', but in my humble opinion and in my experience I have not found that replacing a BBOT increases sustain to any measurable degree. Plus, sustain is a highly overrated characteristic anyway. Does anyone really need a lot of it for bass playing?
 21. Anything from 'Stars' by Simply Red. I lived with a woman (not in a relationship) in a flatshare and she played the bloody CD over and over and over and over again until I was seriously close to the point of losing my temper. We did calmly discuss the situation and tried to compromise with her, but as she couldn't understand how anyone else could possibly have a different musical preference to her, this fell on stony ground. Absolutely hateful pile of crap and the worst of its time and genre in my opinion. Quite apart from the terrible songs, rubbish arrangements and downright bad performances, the very production values make me want to hurl giant reeking chunks just thinking about them. Luckily the CD was 'lost' when she was out at work one day and she never quite got round to replacing it, somehow.
 22.
...I would be uncontrollably drawn towards wanting to see the singer song writer who's intending to hold people's interest with his "journey of depression over the years" just so I can wait for a dramatic lull in his repertoire, look around and shout out "Anyone fancy a pint?"
That's just the sort of thing I would do.
 23.
Just received pictures from Mark of my finished bass to say I'm pleased is an understatement
A pink P!! Haven't ever seen one of those before. Looks great. You must be chuffed as a chuffed thing.
 24.
I've asked Mark to match the green from the Mexican flag (it's something like sherwood green)... Also matching headstock.
Sounds lush. That's quite a dark green though, isn't it? Should work well.
