1.
...One in Germany, via the NAAFI in January '65, was sonic blue with a white guard, the second from Selmers, Charing Cross Road in September '65 was dakota red with a white guard...
So tort and white. 1965 Dakota Red with a white guard sounds very lush.
 2.
I carried (between trains) a 100 watt Burman PA head from Lewisham to Slough, All because that stingy bugger Discreet wouldn't lend me his sack-truck
I would have if I'd remembered I had one! You're the stingy bugger, you wouldn't spring for a cab! I told you not to risk it!
Aye, there you go again, just typical of your attitude that is!
Rubbish, I'm happy to bring some gear! Can you give me a lift, though..?
 3.
Yes, it could just end up as a cake fest. Oh well.
And tea. A tea and cake fest. Sounds good to me.
 4.
...a "post pre modern gothic christian hardcore jazz metal band" might just turn out to be the band you're after.
Sounds like that's right up my street!
 5.
Have you ever walked half a mile carrying a 5-string Jazz, a Mesa Boogie head, and an SVT 810?
From what I've gleaned from threads about bass bashes over the years, it would seem best to turn up with no gear whatsoever and just have a good nose at everyone else's!
 6. Bandmix is good, as is JoinMyBand and StarNow.
 7.
Does appear to be the case. What a stupid design!!
If it is indeed the case you could always buy a DI box and use that instead. Or one of the many tone-shaper/pre-amp pedals with an XLR DI out fitted.
 8.
I would find it hard not to put the hurt on him.
Bad karma, man!
 9.
Drunks are something else. I had one recently who was repeatedly over-effusive in that particular manner which in reality is only an fraction away from calling you a twat and lamping you. Nasty.
It IS nasty. Smile and nod, smile and nod...
 10.
Oh no he isn't..!
Oh yes he is! And so on, until the pantomime is over.
 11.
Maybe I'm just not good enough to notice
Or just maybe... you're TOO good!!
 12.
If you picked up a bass in 1974 and have been playing pub gigs in London for 40 years then that's one thing. If you left music college last year and now live in Truro, well that's quite another thang.
I picked up a bass in 1974, etc etc... but I'm thinking I'd rather have left music college last year and live in Truro...
 13. Wait a minute... this isn't 'abroad' - you're 'abroad'!
 14.
Wow - from other Limelights I've seen this looks 'light' !
It does. Great-looking bass, despite my misgivings about tort on black... not much choice in 1965, though...
 15.
Imagine the bum notes after a curry.
And the GAS!!
 16.
Funnily enough Chris Squire says he doesn't practice scales either. I wonder why that is? Maybe THAT's where I'm going wrong?
I concentrate on learning what I need to know for the songs I'm required to play and lines I play for my own entertainment never include scales... I'm not saying it's wrong to practice scales (I'm sure they're beneficial), but to me that kind of practice is a chore, and anything that detracts from my enjoyment of playing bass tends to go right out the window. There are plenty of tedious tasks I have to do that I don't like doing, and I'm not carrying that over into an activity I really like!! If the day ever comes when bass playing seems to be an obligation or something I don't look forward to, that's when I give it up!
 17.
It happens occasionally, and I often go with the "thanks- it's great to be noticed in the midst of those noisy sods" response.
Great band name!
 18. I don't practice scales. If I can play everything I need to play on my basses, that's fine. I notice the difference between P and J-type neck sizes, which doesn't bother me.
 19.
All I was trying to say in my post was that I personally lost sight of how good an un-enhanced bass sounds.
Easily done and there's a lot to be said for keeping it simple, especially live. I'm looking forward to picking up another bass in a week or two... passive.
 20.
Not sure she was in all honesty.
Oh dear.
 21.
I had some girl at a gig a month or so back say (just as we were leaving the venue) "I'm a bass player and you're much better than me!" How the hell do you reply to that!?
Say 'Thanks, but you're a much better girl than I am...'
...end-of-the-night drunks who will say anything just to have been seen talking to the band...
That's what I get - people who are usually off their faces, so I don't believe a word of it. I just smile and nod, smile and nod...
 22.
...and my Yamaha TRBX
Yes, that too.
 23.
http://www.sterlingb...-basses/ray34ca Probably not going to help anyone's GAS but hey...
D'oh! No, it isn't. I like the vintage cream with the tort plate...
