2 Years playing. Not sure how well im doing
At the end of the day it was an example of not getting all the information about what they were looking for and not being prepared.
Sometimes it's just not possible to second-guess what people are really looking for. -
Depends on the situations you end up in... I felt like an idiot.
Been there. I'm sure I wouldn't have got that gig either... I did say I've been out of the music business as well as in it... -
...the 'made in america' thing doesn't really have that much sway for me.
Me neither... at least not much. My 'American' basses tend to be made here in the UK... or occasionally in Indonesia. -
I really wanted one for a while, then tried a 70s Stingray and hated it with a passion - killed the desire stone dead.
Same, but with Rickenbackers. I still try them though, in case I find a good one. -
I've never owned one, never gigged one, hardly even had a shot of one... But I WANT one, like, really, REALLY want one... Feel the credit card straining already!!!
Now that is a textbook case of GAS. -
Have a look on their website, there is a message about the next batch i believe. There is no fixed date though.
UPDATE: New shipment 28th April 2015 (approximately)! -
I gigged it for the first time tonight and I'm impressed.
Thanks for this... I presume yours is a rock-type band? If so, did the combo run out of steam at any point? I assume you get around 380W without an extension cab... what I'm asking basically is, was it loud enough and do you get sufficient headroom with it? Would it work without PA support if you were playing next to a shed-builder with a loud rock kit?
Yeah, and the albums and live recordings are still full of fret buzz, I love it!
I think people worry too much about all that. Isolated recordings are full of noise - but as the bass was never intended to be heard thus, it doesn't matter. All those little sounds, ghost notes, unmuted string rings and inflections are what makes the music what it is and proves it was played by a real person and not programmed by some git who doesn't know that bass guitars don't go below low 'E'.
I've not the slightest idea about bass-related musical theory, nor do I have any desire to learn or feel the need to pass exams to prove my abilities - as far as I'm concerned, music theory is tantamount to maths, which I hate.
I should probably say there's nothing at all wrong with learning musical theory, or taking a theory-based approach to bass playing, or paying for tuition, etc etc. Whatever works for the individual is a good thing, and if it's working for you and you work better in a structured environment then that's the way to go. I realise my approach may not work for everyone... And not everyone wants to play live, regardless of my view that to do anything else is pointless! YMMV! The fact that people are even taking up bass guitar is a big positive! -
I find low action settings can stop notes breathing too, IMO my Flea prefers a regular action rather than low one.
True this, and generally I prefer a medium to high action. Flea digs in like feck, so you'd expect his action to be moderately high. Having said this I'm enjoying the low action on my new Sire V7... better not get used to it, I'd have a problem getting my other basses that low.
When I read other posts of people playing in bands after only a couple of months of picking up the bass I struggle to believe it based on my abilities.
Just because people decide to join bands early on doesn't mean they are any good. But they will improve exponentially. The whole punk thing was all about giving anybody the chance to pick up an instrument and just do it regardless of ability. In fact I was already in a band before I ever picked up a bass guitar. It's not about learning theory, it's about confidence. If you think you can, you can. If you don't think you can, you need to convince yourself. As was said earlier, joining a band is by far the quickest way to get proficient at bass. I've not the slightest idea about bass-related musical theory, nor do I have any desire to learn or feel the need to pass exams to prove my abilities - as far as I'm concerned, music theory is tantamount to maths, which I hate. Nevertheless I can jam with any band, quickly learn long sets of material by ear and have been in and out of the music business as a pro bass player for years. Not one single person has ever asked to see my bass-playing qualifications or asked after my sight-reading abililty. It's about personality, confidence, feel and groove. Learning scales and modes isn't going to help you lock in with a drummer. This is all in my humble opinion, of course. If it's not fun and you're not enjoying it, then you're doing it wrong. -
This got added to YouTube by a former band member - I still quite like this track tbh!
Mullets ahoy! And the keys player needs shooting, but good song otherwise!

Having played a passive bass for decades and found it unnecessary to do otherwise, I'm now finding that active tone circuits can be very useful, particularly live, particularly when using an unfamiliar rig - you have options right there in your bass. But extreme settings don't work so well and I've found that very small adjustments are all you need in most circumstances. If you have the option of using your own tried and tested rig live, then I'd say it's preferable to use a passive bass and EQ from your amp, with the usual provisio that FOH is going to be beyond your control anyway. Anything to make gigging less complicated has to be a bonus...

I've used one of these for a while. Not particularly trendy or anything, but 25mm padding and lots of features. Finally realised the only bass I really want is one I'd already had for decades (and nothing else) until I joined BassChat, got GAS and sold it. I've been trying to find a bass like it for the last four years, but I can't. Naughty BassChat! But now it's available and I'm going for it. Reunion NBD thread in a week or two.
