1.
Until someone says they want to buy it, just assume they don't. Life's less stressful that way.
+1 ...I don't register a sale until the cash is in my account.
 2.
Put it on hold for 31/2 hours then flog it to someone else.
3. Only Jaco sounded like Jaco - thank God. Get a Jazz, you'll never look back. I did, and I can't stand them.
 4.
It's here! It's arrived! And. Oh my God.
Yay! Pics and an appraisal ASAP please... or it hasn't happened...
 5.
I don't need to tell you that the streets of London are not paved with gold, but it sounds like the others may need some convincing of this!
Great post, which I have not quoted in its entirety as we are running out of internet. Thp!
 6.
I'll blame Dave for mine, it was seeing his review that convinced me!
It convinced me, too! And so did Marvin's review among others, both here and at the other place! And of course our own Clarky who spotted them in first place. That's great, though - at least we can share the blame between us... if anyone doesn't like their bass I'll only be partly responsible...
 7.
There's a fair few of us on here with them now, and all positive reactions so far!
Which is something of a relief, to be honest with you...
 8.
Quietest coach trip home ever...
Ha, yes. The 'Going-to-give-it-up-as-a-bad-job-and-sell-all-my-gear' journey.
 9.
...Iv'e also got a couple of official bags coming from Sire as well soon...
How long are they here for? Perhaps we could all go out for a drink, or something..?
 10.
...White, tort, bound r/w with blocks, side-dots I can actually see, active... and MrsB's just had her annual bonus. Jeez!
If MrsB is going to be generous with her annual bonus, there's only one reasonable course of action to take...
 11.
The knob height is something I'm going to try to address... I'm a bit anal like that.
Are we going off topic? I sincerely hope so..!
...the only thing that would stop me getting one is the height of the knobs.
Seriously though, I think that's something that could easily be fixed with affordable replacements. The picture I took of the knob-gap (fnarr) does tend to make the gap look bigger than it actually is. In normal use you don't see it.
 12.
...it's easy to obsess over gear and fine nuances when the reality is that in a gig situation very few people will notice the difference.
It's true. An amp is an amp, a bass is a bass. As far as the rest of my band is concerned, none of my many amp/bass combinations have made a whole lot of difference (to them). They say I sound just like me, playing the bass. So maybe it really is all in the fingers. Back in the day things were more polarised. You could buy really crap amps and basses and really good amps and basses. Now most budget amps and basses are at least reasonable, and some are exceptional. Just like cars. It's difficult to buy a really crap car today, whereas in the 70s and 80s there were some terrible sheds about... but my driving's just the same...
 13. These are the ones I use - they are for musicians and allow you to have conversations and hear music, but without the hearing damage. There's no 100% all-or-nothing effect that you get with foam and other types of plug which can leave you feeling a bit isolated. http://www.amazon.co...643QWK89B5QZP9Q I have no connection to Elacin OR Amazon!
 14.
Is the black one,the only 5er that is in stock at thoman?

It sure is - didn't fancy waiting for the white blonde to come back in stock. Was a toss up between the 2 anyway!
Obviously they must be selling like hot cakes. Or cool basses, anyway (hollow laugh).
Don't know how I missed this... What a great looking bass. Epic review as well as always.
Thanks, Rob.
 15.
Ha ha now you know how I felt
Yes, but I did say I wouldn't blame you had I not liked it!
 16.
Great review. In fact I've just ordered a black Alder 5er on the strength of this! Can't wait!
Oh God, really? Well I sincerely hope you like it!
 17.
But what type of laurels? Portuguese laurel? Bay laurel English laurel Cherry laurel Bog laurel? Japanese laurel? Spurge laurel?
Er... Bay.
 18.
The girl in the diagram however (or young long haired lout), doesn't seem so convinced. Her body languge suggests she is quite apathetic about the sound and is ready to leave, no matter what you do!
That's because it's a Raconteurs gig.
 19.
But what type of shrubbery?
One that looks nice and is not TOO expensive. A good shrubbery. With laurels.
 20. When your Dad walked out the door, did he ever come back..?
 21.
I got distracted trying to work out which side of a napkin is the "back"...
The side with the drawing on it, obviously!
 22.
Feel free to quote any of my posts, especially knob jokes, cat pictures and references to my enormous bloomers.
Pics, or the enormous bloomers didn't happen!
 23.
For a moment I considered sketching something on the back of a napkin and taking a phone photo of it...
You still can - especially if it's something crude and inappropriate.
 24.
Not necessarily, since the midrange and high frequency pattern is cone shaped. The picture below shows +/- 30 degree dispersion, which is about average in the upper mids from a bass cab. In the upper frame the cab flat on the floor puts the audience within the dispersion pattern, but not the player. In the lower frame with the cab tilted both the audience and player are within the dispersion pattern.
Great post. A picture is worth a thousand words.
 25.
I am now officially done shopping for basses...
I'll bring this up in your next NBD thread. Very nice bass, by the way.
