2.
Aye aye, hiding in the wardrobe after starting this one up for the Nth time and leave all us other earplug cheapskates to be viewed down the nose and preached at. Thanks!
I might be hiding in the wardrobe, but I can still hear what's going on, you know... I've got ears like a hawk, or something.
 3. Thirdly, I require a shrubbery.
 4.
OK so they don't feel quite as "premium" as some, but they work perfectly well. They hold tuning fine, and it's never suffered with neck dive, so can't see a few grams weight saving would have a significant impact on anything...
I think it's the premium feel that makes the difference - it's what adds quality to a bass from the point of view of the player. But I agree, I wouldn't spend the extra if there was nothing wrong with the stock tuners - unless I was awash with loot, in which case I would have bought a premium bass in the first place.
 5. No. And I can hear up to 16kHz which is unusual for my age. Mainly because I've used ear protection for decades. I'm not generally a sensible person, so all the more remarkable. Even if you think you play in a quiet band, your hearing is compromised. Much is said on here about making a big outlay for top-quality ear protection and it's good advice - what cost your hearing - but I've always used earplugs costing about a tenner and while obviously not as good, they have made all the difference. Any ear protection is better than none - in my experience. *Hides in wardrobe to avoid many posts to the contrary*
 6. That's a 'sharing cake', right?
 7.
Sell my Fender Classic 60 Jazz for the Sire 5 string Jazz?
Only you can make that call! If you're happy with your Jazz you should keep it. And buy a Sire as well.
 8.
Looks lovely, how does it compare to the Vintage Modified Squiers?
I had a VM Jazz 5 for a while (which was a good bass) and currently own a Squier Deluxe Jazz (exceptional value) but this Sire is in a totally different league. Apples and pears.
 9.
...something for the Limelight thread perhaps?
Logical guess, but no! It's the real deal...
 10. Very nice! These are great basses by all accounts, I really must get round to trying one.
 11. Don't forget it will be bluejay who decides what to include. BGM say they want our most interesting goings-on in the mag so for most members it'll be a non-issue.
 12.
I think it would make a great "moo-sical" instrument...
Yess! Great pun. Have you got any udders..?
 13. I believe Hipshot do a good MIM replacement. They're a bit pricey just for the look of it though - if your stock tuners work OK I'd leave 'em. http://www.axesrus.c...-p/20710hb7.htm
 14.
I've taken the plunge on an alder 4! How long was the wait for you?
Woot! Nicely done! Mine was seven days from order to delivery, but that was including a weekend, when Germany is apparently closed. You might see yours on Friday if you're really lucky, but otherwise Monday or Tuesday at a guess.
 15.
...get the neck p/u cavity routed to take a P p/u..? Ok so it'd be a PJ rather than just a P, but any P is better than none
It might be a PJ rather than just a P, but more importantly it would no longer be a J..! Anyway, I have a rather special P in the pipeline as it happens...
 16.
I know it's a different bass but I've got Thomastik Jazz flats on my string through bridge Stingray Classic and it's absolutely fine... Thanks for the thorough review of the V7 and the sound sample is excellent. As you say these basses are good for a Jazzophobe if you want one in your arsenal - Nice colours as well... I'm quite tempted - and just imagine if they made a Precision as well!
I've only used La Bellas through-body and they weren't really happy. I tend to favour through-bridge now anyway - to be honest I really can't detect any difference. I've not used Thomastik before though, thanks for the recommendation - I may try some next time I buy flats. I emailed Mickey Cho, MD at Sire to ask about the likelihood of a P in future - he says as they own the means of production they can do what they like - I took this statement to mean that a P is possible. I suppose it depends on how their current two production models pan out.
 17. Was going to make a joke about sauce, but maybe not. Welcome to the forum.
 18.
Empress Compressor.

Again the empress is my current fave.
Empress or Diamond for me. Not sure if either would be suitable for the OP, though.
 19.
...are the 4's & 5's the same scale length? If so, that could explain why the 4's are intonated nearer the rear of the bridge than the 5's.
Yes, the fours and fives are both 34" scale. But their bridges are very different in design.
 20.
Right, yes, a Wal. I'll give you that. I'd probably rather take the Wal. If I have that money I can afford a decent chiropractor ;-)
Just hire someone to play it for you. Edit: My rates are very reasonable.
 21.
Nice beaver!
It definitely needs waxing.
 22.
I was talking to Jon over at TalkBass about the string-thru issue on the 4-string models after looking at the web site. He ran the E-string thru the bridge and said that it worked fine but it was tight. I had originally thought of getting a 4 and stringing B-E-A-D and I wanted the extra tension on the B-string & E-strings. I figured that if it was tight with the E-string it would probably not work at all for a B-string. Glad I waited . . .
That's very interesting, thanks. Looks like it's possible then, but not if you want to stick a 'B' string in there. I would probably be reluctant to string flats through-body too, but then I'm reluctant to do that on any bass - flats don't seem to like it much.
 23. It's the kind of cowhide that should stay hidden.
 24. If I had £3K to spend on a bass it would be an early 60s P or a Wal. I agree with those who think CS overpriced. I had cause to learn John Mayer's Who Did You Think I Was a while back and that is one great bass line and great fun to play, too.
 25. If you do, I'll buy you a drink!
