Aggh, stop! The longer this thread gets, the more time will be lost by people reading complaints about the thread that wasted our time in the first place! ...Great, now I've made it worse. Thpp!

Remarkable in that it's the only original 50s bass I've seen that isn't one.
To be fair, my wife posted a video of baby goats somewhere earlier, so there wasn't much internet left.
Well mine posted a pic of her arse a while back, so that must have used up a fair bit.
I am not fussed about the West Ham logo, as am not a football fan. However my wife supports Charlton and she was not amused when I mentioned I wanted to buy this and have it in the house
Charlton fans have no sense of humour - yet they so desperately need one.

I bought one of these... compact, adjustable and stable. Works well.

No, I'M Spartacus.
...Might have to take a chance on Thomann as Im not sure I can wait until May
Have no fear. I've ordered loads of gear from Thomann over the years. They are very efficient and their customer service is second to none. Go for it.

I've played precisely three Rickenbackers, they were all dogs. However, people I know and trust tell me that if you find a good one they are excellent basses and sound phenomenal. So I look forward to the time when I play a good one because I'm quite sure it will sound phenomenal. That's when my problems will start though, as I'll no doubt get GAS and have to (once again) start amassing enough coins of the realm for a purchase... Like a lot of people on this forum, I was put off Rics through the antics of Mr Hall, but now the OP has really stoked my GAS for one. Dammit.
No! They're demolishing the tatty block behind the North side of Denmark Street, including Enterprise Studios and part of the 12 Bar Club. Most of the North side is not affected, and the South side won't be touched. The Alley Cat survives to service another generation of puzzled Japanese tourists.
Thank God for that! Puzzling Japanese tourists with obscure Indie music is a tradition that needs supporting! I'm guessing I won't see you at the Alley Cat again though, Jack... and frankly you won't see me there again either, so it's all good!

Do you/your band rehearse with full gigging set-up?
discreet replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I take my rig to rehearsal just so I don't have to hire one (and I prefer it anyway), but I may use provided back line at a gig depending on the situation. -
There are a lot of other variables that would impact how you will sound at a gig???????
Quite, depending on the gig, how many bands are playing and where you are on the bill it's possible you won't be able to use your own gear and need to rely on the kit and backline provided for quick and easy changeover, among other reasons.

Despite my attention being diverted by other basses, Spector GAS is still rampant... especially since I saw this today: http://www.bassdirec...ack_Cherry.html

Definitely try a string change first. There's nothing wrong with the Tonepump Jr or the SSD EMG pickups. And that highly-desirable mid-range growl is what Spector is famous for and one of the reasons people buy them. Stuart Spector knows what he is doing. What music are you using it for, if I may ask?
Forget the jabs, take a hard hat and a hi-vis vest. They're in the middle of demolishing the lot just now.
What, already? Does that mean we're one of the last bands to play in Denmark Street?
-
I have never played in a band that didn't rehearse in one of the members basement. Is that unusual?
It is in London. Space is very much at a premium and it's hard to rehearse a band (particularly a rock band with acoustic drums) in someone's house without annoying the neighbours.
It's a rehearsal, it's what you want to sound like on a gig. Why the hell would you not use the gear you'll use on the gig?
In our case the drummer (being a drummer) has no bloody transport and cadges a lift to rehearsals from the guitarist (as does the singer) and there's no room in the car for three people, the guitarist's gear AND a full drum kit. That's why!

Personal taste of course, but I find that people tend towards a low action because they think it's the right thing to do and any bass on which it is difficult to attain said low action is in some way deficient. I think a very low action is overrated myself. I've tried lots of different string heights over the years and favour a medium to high action. I find that if the string isn't allowed to vibrate as much as it wants to when you pluck it, you lose a lot of tone, clarity and volume. Strings need room to 'breathe'. Having said that, I prefer a slightly lower action with flats... mainly because it's easy to achieve without losing tone.

I say the drummer should pay for kit hire. I wouldn't expect the band to pay for a bass amp if I needed to hire one. However, our drummer is a skinflint and in practice we split the cost four ways. Reluctantly. If he wasn't such a good drummer I'd make a lot more fuss about it.
