...the owner seems to have stopped leaving swingers mags around and inviting us to his special 'adult' parties...
How terrible! You'd better PM me the address of this place so I can avoid it in future.
I think, if the neck really is big dimensions, I might just bow out of my order with Thomann...
I was going to say something about this (knowing of your proclivities) but didn't want you to think I was doing so just because I don't particularly like the bass! Especially since the forum seems to be quite short-tempered today... is it something to do with the eclipse, d'you think..?
Naaa, sorry guys.
It's difficult for humans to localise low frequencies in a room any smaller than a concert hall. This is merely a fact. Obviously it's up to you whether you believe it or not...
My biggest bother would be pulling £2K on a couple of PA speakers that we couldn't hear beforehand. It's a giant leap of faith!
I believe Alex has a scheme whereby you can trial gear for a month and if you don't like it, send it back. You pay for return postage though, but I still think it's worthwhile.
Food for thought.
Definitely is, as the sansamp can go in your gigbag and the Barefaced is 15kg... one in each hand.
Looked on thomann, standard tech 21 bass driver DI.
That would work fine. Assuming you already like what it does, of course...
Is it compulsory that they are run by idiots?
Seemingly, but I imagine if you had brain surgeon or rocket scientist potential you'd probably opt for more gainful employment...
-
Would it work as a bass amp using a sansamp DI?
Yes it would - I have used various pedal preamps with a power amp with great results, the best (for me) being a Tech 21 VT Bass. The various flavours of SansAmp are good, you can even use a BDI-21 if you have one knocking about. The Zoom bass units are good, too.

Used famous rooms near London Bridge for a while until we realised we really didn't need a 48-channel desk and a Turbo PA... now using a nice room under railway arches in East London which is perfect for our needs. Good, basic kit and great sound (when there are no trains running overhead...) When I was in a touring band back in the day we used John Henry's in north London which is excellent... trouble is there is every conceivable bit of kit you can possibly imagine in a huge warehouse there, and it's all for sale or hire... GAS! GAS! GAS!!
Who uses just one sub with two tops?
Lots of people. Two subs cause problems - one sub does the job because low end at sub frequencies is non-directional, i.e. you can't tell where it's coming from, so you don't need two subs - you get your stereo from the tops.
What is this "heft" we're talking about? Surely there's nothing that can't be achieved with some clever compression and EQ?
I see no emoticons so can't tell if you're joking or not... if not, then you've obviously never played a gig with an Ampeg SVT and 810 on full song. It's like having a very large, heavy, sinister rubber ball bouncing on the stage behind you in time to the music. That's heft.

'Flat' knobs are correct for the period.

In my opinion one of the key requirements of a teacher is to be encouraging, so I'm not surprised you're feeling bad about it. How are you supposed to learn an instrument by watching someone play it? Osmosis? Joe 90-type brain machine? I wouldn't worry about being rude... just politely tell him you don't want any more lessons. You don't have to make excuses or explain yourself. I'm sure members will post recommendations for teachers that are good and that they have had positive experiences with, so just put it behind you and move on. Don't let this put you off playing the bass.

When you realise you can no longer play a Precision neck...

It's a terminal lipocarsoma. This bass has only months to live.

The more I read about these the more inflated with GAS I become... who would have thought..? -
When Pino gets the invite to lay down some bass tracks for John Mayers new album who if anyone has the responsibility to convert it to dots?

For Pino I'd imagine you pay him for his groove, tone and approach. I don't even know if he can read music?

Considering Pino doesn't read music I guess he does "bluff" it...
Pino does't 'bluff' anything - he does what he does. I don't read, and I've never been presented with dots in nearly forty years of playing* bass. As said above, it very much depends what kind of scene you're involved with. The only time I see dots is when they appear for brass sections, who seem to like that sort of thing for some reason... *Edit: 41 years. Ulp!

Very nice... I don't think I've said this before on this forum, but white/black/maple is my favourite colour combo...

I'm guessing comb filtering was a problem in the 70s when everyone had long hair, but now the fashion is for shorter hair (and with players going bald as they get older) is this still an issue in the twenty-first century? ...I'll get me wig.
