  1. I like them too, but would the Cabronita guard look good without the Cabronita pickup? Also, it looks like the standard 51P pickup is a bit nearer the neck.
  2. I'd say that was a pretty good descriprion of a Shergold Marathon. Or possibly a Hayman 4040.
  3. Possibly, but if I went for tort it would have to be Spitfire tort, which would cost more than the bass. Most modern tort is essentially unusable.
  4. Have to be a light mint though, don't want it looking too green. And it would need to be a 3-ply.
  5. Thhp! Agreed. If I'm going to fit a guard it will have screws. Wondering about mint... It's just that I don't have a mint guard...
  6. Be careful how you fit it. Don't use rubber or foam under it, use springs or plastic tubing. It can be a bit fragile, especially when adjusting height.
  7. Davie very kindly loaned me a pickguard to use as a template, didn't want postage paying (which instead went towards saving the elephants) and then announced the guard was a gift... such generosity - but I'm not surprised as He. Is. A. Top. Basschatter! Thanks Davie.
  8. I'm not that keen on it. I like the bass a lot, but if it's to be a keeper it has to be white (or one of the very many shades and/or hues thereof).
  9. Considered, but way too expensive to do properly.
  10. Oh balls, I was just coming to terms with a no-guard situation. It's actually more creamy than the pics show.
  11. Yes, it's this one: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/319730-hb-pb-50-modded-version-30/
  12. Crikey. Be careful, your cup might just runneth over. Or something.
  13. No, just the first 8 bars of 'Babylon's Burning', then fling the bass into the audience.
  14. I try to do small enough gigs that I don't have anyone else in the signal path...
  15. La Bellas > pickup > amp (with EQ switched out).
  16. Quite. I may wire this pickup directly to the jack plug socket. The tone and volume controls are very distracting...
  17. I doubt it. No-one reads any of this, do they..?
  18. I tried that with a Jess Loureiro split-coil, I had a series/parallel switch fitted. But I preferred the 57-type sound and wanted to keep it simple. I hate having too many tone options.
  19. Yes, but that's almost incidental. It has one coil per two pole-pieces, the idea being that you get that 57-style split-pickup vibe, but in a 51-style package.
  20. That is a unique dual-coil 11k ohm custom job, one of three made by Martin Herrick to my specs.
  21. No - it's a bit Roy Lichtenstein.
  22. Stop it with the Paisley already! It reminds me of my old Gran's pinny, bless her. But not for a bass!
  23. That is an option. Or I could just paint the guard on, changing the colour if I get bored...
  24. Erm... technically, no. But I could re-drill them easily enough...
