1.
...it is no longer the 60s or 70s...
Er, yes I know... I thought it was fairly clear in my post that I was not being entirely serious. Obviously people should make their own minds up about whether they want to play four-stringers, five-stringers, fifteen-stringers, a kazoo, a washboard, a penny whistle, the spoons, or even knock one out on the one-string banjo. I'm past caring, frankly.
  2. Hmm... tempting, even in black. It's not a lot of cash for what it is... but I have something I need to buy first.
  3. Heh. What's the up-to-date, modern (and hopefully lightweight) equivalent of this combo then, AE?
  4.
Do you think Finnish Crack Tango will be adopted by Strictly for the 2015 season?
Judging by the Scandi-porn DVD I have bearing the same name, I sincerely hope so.
  5.
That's a bit unfair to those of us who 1). Can't afford another decent quality bass (and cheap five strings are often not a wise investment) or 2). don't have the time required to "re-learn" playing the bass. I see the use of BEAD as a sensible compromise...
I largely agree with this - however I can afford a five-string and do have the time to 're-learn' playing it, but I just don't get on with fivers. I would much rather play a four-banger tuned as Leo intended. This arrangement was perfectly adequate for most players and most types of music for most of the sixties and seventies, so why mess with it? Five-string basses are merely a God-forsaken aberration, the concept of which should not be entertained by any right-thinking bass player - and those that do have way too much time on their hands, or more likely, are closet keyboard players who are 'good with colours' - and as such should be lashed until they drop, then dragged naked by horses through the streets of Deptford (to be shown later on prime-time TV), until they cheer up. There, I've said it.
  6. Eh? You're not allowed to say 'Sw***ier'?? Iceholes! What the farking feck is that corksucking shyte all about??
  7. I had one of these and they are remarkably good, especially at this price! A no-brainer really. Played mine at a prestigious NYE gig at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, and no-one batted an eyelid...

  9.
...and of course, the raging Spector-gas...
Spector GAS does have a tendency to rage, that's very true. Nice Yam, though. I love a white bass me. I think I may have mentioned it before...
  10.
Yes welcome you little doppelganger you. I hope this doesn't get too confusing for folks...
What's KevBee going to say? And Kevbe?
  11. Just play in a 'low mid' sort of way. It's in the fingers.
  12. Nice looking bass, and a great price too... have you got one in white..?

    NBD

White and maple...? Black pg, every time. Nice bass.
  14. Another smooth and easy deal with Gary. I got to play a couple of very different but totally amazing basses AND got a great cup of tea, too... Thanks very much Gary and I know you will enjoy your new baby.
  15.
Haha! Go on, you know you want to, big saving on new!
It's a nice thing right enough, but there is something else with a Fender neck I need to buy first!
  16.
Still wont make any difference unless he hits the skin correctly.
A badly-tuned kit will sound like crap whether it's hit correctly or not.
  17. Thanks for posting the Cataldo web link... not! GAS! GAS! GAS!
  18.
Definitely no argument from me. I think my posts are coming across in the wrong way so no more negative comments from me
Don't worry, you're not putting me off or anything. It's just that there's something else I need to buy first.
  19.
I thought singing was physically hard work , well it always looks that way after one of our gigs
Nah, they're just swinging the lead and playing it for the sympathy vote, mate!
  20.
I really see it as Squier raised the bar, Sire are just offering alternatives at the same price point. Not convinced about needing a 18-volt preamp (it will cost more to run)
Given how long a battery lasts in an active bass I think worrying about the cost of an 18-volt setup is a moot point. And I think Sire are offering more than Squier for sure. As far as I'm concerned an 18V preamp is a Unique Selling Point that a lot of people will appreciate. Don't want to join in with a big argument or anything, this is just my opinion, obviously. YMMV, etc.
  21.
...and, as in this case, bone idle and not up to scratch.
Well, y'know... I didn't want to be too negative, and all...
  22.
...singers are a nightmare in my experience.
Particularly if they don't also play an instrument, for some reason. They obviously have too much time on their hands.
  23.
I want great sound from the kit which is only achievable if he hits it right.
Which in turn is only achievable if he can tune a kit properly. Not all drummers can, strangely enough.
