Bassist Wanted Ad on JMB - shows the mentality of some people
discreet replied to Sean's topic in General Discussion
So the ad just reinforces the stereotype and belittles those of us who have spent years working on our 'simple' instruments. Fair enough if it's tongue in cheek, I don't mind a bit of Micky taking. But these guys are serious.
Shouldn't really be bothered about it after all this time and it really is first-world stuff and all, but you're right. -
Bassist Wanted Ad on JMB - shows the mentality of some people
...the bands listed have simple bass lines a regular guitarist or newbie bass player could handle, you dont need to be Marcus Miller to apply is what they are saying, of course that might touch a nerve with some 'less able' bassists?
Simple bass lines are often the most difficult to get right and not only played by 'less able' bass players. There is the matter of timing, groove and feel. And IME you have to be pretty good to get maximum groove and feel into a simple bass line. As any fule kno. -
Bassist Wanted Ad on JMB - shows the mentality of some people

Most likely says more about the kids who posted the ad, i.e. they're not really singers, drummers or guitarists - just into the genre. You can imagine the racket - it'll sound like Paddy's moped. And anyone who says that gigs are 'in the future', has no intention of doing any gigs in my experience. These 'rehearsals' will at best be social occasions where booze and drugs will be consumed while wearing guitars, etc. I just read this post and it seems very harsh! Oh, well. -
Oh thanks, thanks a lot. There I was looking forward to seeing my new bass arrive, enjoy it's aesthetic and now I have buyers remorse and a sea of doubt...
Ha! If you're that easily swayed, you should cancel the order! I did say it was a 'problem', i.e. not a problem. Personally I think the MM V7 headstock looks great and I would happily appear in public AND in my bedroom with one... -
Squier Deluxe Active Jazz IV with aftermarket tort pickguard. My first, last and only sunburst.
I've just been comparing the US and UK Ibanez sites and once again we seem to lose out.
Once again! It's not just basses, either - there's a much smaller range of hardware and other bass-related periphery stuff like paint, tools, pickguards, on and on it goes. Whenever I search eBay for something - a shirt, a wig, a girdle, whatever - the ones that I like are inevitably Stateside. Yes I know, why don't I go and live in Russia if I like it so much, yadda. Thp.
I play a Bongo so you'd think I wouldn't be worried about aesthetics!
Quite. *Cough* Bogseat! *Cough* I think the 'problem', if you want to call it that, with the V7 headstock is that it's actually bigger than the Fender headstock, which itself is bloody massive considering what it has to do - and is really only that size because it has to hold equally bloody massive tuners. Leo had little choice in 1950 as far as tuners were concerned, and could only source ex-bass viol tuners which were huge. Remember, no-one was making third-party bass guitar tuners back then! It's only when you spend time with a Spector or other non-Fender bass that you realise tuners and headstocks just don't have to be that big nowadays to be effective and look great. Fenders and Fender clones have really huge, cartoon-like paddles when you look at them objectively. -
That's totally germane.
Dutch Leerdammer.
Fair enough, but the generic cheese with holes in that everybody thinks of first is Swiss. Hence the expression 'As full of holes as a Swiss cheese'. /pennant
tattie howkin
I had to Google that!
yes it is
Thhhpppp!!
If it were yellow it would look like a piece of that Dutch cheese...
I think you mean Swiss cheese, but yes! /pedant
I am so tempted by the V7 in white, been finding myself drawn to Jazz basses in that colour scheme lately. I really don't need another bass but at that price it seems almost rude not to! The only snag is that every time I look at the pics I get to the headstock and think, hmmm it is pretty grim.
Squier VM Jazz incoming? -
I found the Bonham/JPJ combo rather too 'messy'.
WHAT?? No, no... don't argue with people on teh internetz, it's not worth it!
Put legs on the neck and you have a nice work bench for your shed.
I knew it looked familiar! It's a Black & Decker Workmate!
I think this is the matching cab? I think it's either just out, or coming soon - http://www.gak.co.uk...jAeohoCq9zw_wcB
That one's 22.5" wide, according to PMT. The spec isn't on the Fender website. Duh! I'd really like a Rumble 500, but my OCD demands a matching-width extension cab.
Why is the buy it now £9 million ?
Maybe he doesn't really want to sell it?
I'll tell you what. Whoever spec'd that pink bass must be a man of exceptional style and class
I totally agree. But then you'd expect it from a man who's 'good with colours'. That early-60s blonde stacker early in the thread is a stunner, too. I reckon whoever specced that is very talented and attractive to women. I expect he's got lovely legs too and always changes his pants and socks before he needs to, even when his girlfriend is away for the weekend.
-
I reckon you could have got away with the "imho" on that statement!
Yeah well, I don't want to be accused of posting opinions as facts... you know what it's like on here.
-
If he wants to shift it he should offer it for less than nine million pounds, imho. If it were mine by some terrible mischance, I'd immediately burn it, throw it from a moving car or chuck it overboard at sea.

Quick question - the Rumble 500 is 19" wide, but the extensions cabs seem to be 23". Or have I missed something?
