  1. You could always submit a John Cage-type piece..?
  2. Huh! Pfft! No-one ever looks at that! Bah! Tsk! And so on.
  3. Erm... NME ceased publication in March. Sorry.
  4. Sorting it as I type. And done.
  5. Well I'm not shagging that elephant again today - you'll have to have another listen tomorrow when there isn't a plane flying over.
  6. I reckon I'm a fair player but am always showing my technical ignorance on this board (especially in threads that Bill contributes to - he is the master). Don't worry about it.
  7. Well according to my db scale, an elephant having an orgasm is 100db and a 737 flying overhead at 100ft is 103db.
  8. I don't think you are. Mixing an 8 and a 4 ohm cab is inadvisable, which leaves the option of 2 x 8 ohm cabs (assuming a 4ohm amp) or one 4 ohm cab. 2 8ohm cabs will be louder and sound better but are more hassle to haul. One 4 ohm cab is easier to haul but you won't be able to push it as much, mainly due to mechanical limitations. There is also the option of using one 8ohm cab depending on how loud you need to get. Using one 8ohm cab will get you approx 350w max from a 500w amp. In practice this is often more than sufficient! I'll always opt for one 4ohm (or 8ohm) cab because I'm a lazy bugger and in a relatively quiet band. I don't need to get loud. Getting loud is overrated anyway, imho. Currently I'm using a 350w 2x10 combo which sounds great, gets quite loud enough and weighs 16kg for the win.
  9. Um... I think Bill also implied that two 8ohm cabs are going to get louder than one 4ohm cab.
  10. Er... I think it was this one. It weighs fifteen tons.
  11. Quite, as I mentioned in the OP.
  12. Another vote for the BDI-21 here - you just cannot get this close to a Sansamp for £25 anywhere else. Warms up a sterile amp a treat and records very well, too. Also my Jess Loureiro dual-coil 51 Telebass pickup. Just astounding. As good as, if not better than, the big names - but at half the price. Buying a dual-coil neck pickup for my Jazz next, on the strength of it.
  13. Duh! Of course, Gibson QC is fantastic...
  14. Mike bought a bridge and a pickup from me. Super-fast payment, great comms and... all good. Would deal with again, no problem. Thanks!
  15. Haven't been here and done this as often as I'd like, but had an hour going begging, so here it is. PS: There aren't any 'wrong' notes of course - it's Jazz.
  16. Could be that, but a lot of professionals I see rock up with Squiers. Edit: And anything that has the tag 'Professional' applied to it inevitably turns out not to be so...
  17. Or Professional and Bedroom Noodler...
  18. That's an interesting read! I don't want to be too negative as I haven't checked out the Player series personally, but it may not be a great idea to buy one online unseen and untried, or at least have a very close look at the T&Cs if you do...
  19. I get the impression he's a one man band, so he won't have the overheads of the bigger companies. He makes a high quality product, there's no doubt about that. My split coil 51 Telebass pickup is lush. On the strength of it I'm buying a split coil neck pickup for my Jazz.
  20. Going by my recent experience with a Jess Loureiro split-coil 51 Telebass pickup (which sounds absolutely excellent - warm, punchy and articulate), I can only imagine that his P/J sets would be equally stellar. He does a 'classic' set and a 'coil split' set, thus: http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=63&controller=product&id_lang=4 http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=64&controller=product&id_lang=4 All hand wound with traditional materials - and his prices are very competitive, too.
  21. Yes - after the initial flush of GAS, I'm considering refinishing one of my existing basses in buttercream (or similar) as that seems to be the crux of my excitement and enthusiasm. The requisite colour will cost me around £20 in materials and nothing for my time. You can't argue with a saving of £629. Sorted!
  22. I like it, but at this rate my day will consist of 12 hours looking at bass gear and 12 hours working to pay for it all.
  23. I thought this was a clever techie title about bass nut failure or some such. Tsk! Great album, though. Iconic, I think the word is...
