  1. Love the comments: 'Colin Hay wife is superfluous'.
  2. I note the word 'spree' is only ever used in 'killing spree' OR 'shopping spree'... although this morning I went on an impromptu 'farting spree'. Does this count?
  3. There's certainly a risk of electrocution with grounding! I'm no expert, though. Can someone tell me how electrocution is possible if the bridge, the strings (and thus yourself) are not connected in any way to the electrics?
  4. I used s Kluson 70s bridge and the bridge pickup lines up perfectly - it's the neck pickup that's slightly out. Makes little to no difference, however.
  5. You just don't need a ground wire IF your shielding is really good. I used to think one was essential, but IME it isn't. My Jazz doesn't have one but is just as quiet as if it had. Ditto my Precision. No hum, no buzzing, nothing.
  6. This bugs me, too. It's not necessarily that they haven't spent enough, it's that they don't know what's good value and what isn't - which also shows a lack of interest. For example, my HB Strat cost less than £60, but I'd put it up against any USA Strat. Nice guitar.
  7. They are out there. I know EMG do a set. I had a set ready like you did, discovered the cavities were the same size so bought two Entwistle neck pickups, which are excellent. I still have the original set which I can sell or keep for another project. When life gives you lemons, find someone with a bottle of vodka...
  8. Same as mine. Both cavities are the same size. I noticed this before I finished the bass. I fitted two neck pickups. I don't have an earth wire either, I just did a thorough job with copper shielding and it's as quiet as a quiet thing.
  9. Hmm, I think you have to see if you can get another singer...

Sold an OBBM speaker cable to Lawrence. Fast payment and great comms, all good. Recommended!
  11. An inevitable consequence of spending time on this rock, I'm afraid.
  12. Yes. I've had some expensive instruments, but currently enjoying my go-to bass, which cost £97. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy a Wal or a Ritter if you want one, but there's a point at which the law of diminishing returns kicks in and it seems to kick in surprisingly quickly. This from a 'playing and using' point of view. Obviously if you're a collector or investor, it's a different set of priorities.
  13. Have to agree. What constitutes a 'good' bass is so personal and subjective. You'd think there'd be as many different basses available as there are people to play them. Oh wait...
  14. Sounds like you're better off out of it.
  15. I've seen this a lot. Also drummers who insist on setting up bang in the middle of the stage when it's obviously not the best use of space. What makes them think they're entitled to the ENTIRE bloody stage? Of course this is all a LOT more annoying if they're crap...
  16. Sounds like you need a new singer. What a complete and utter pain in the sphincter!
  17. On the rare occasions I've experienced this attitude it's always from people who really can't play their own instruments. Funny, that.
  18. They never did, it was celluloid. And tortoiseshell came from turtles. Wow, two actual facts in one post! Nice tortoise though.
  19. Erm... probably least said about that the better...
  20. Vintage white, mint and maple is just about as good as it gets. Class.
