  1. Sold some strings to Karl in what proved to be a smooth and simple transaction. Recommended!
  2. Verb very kindly sent me some strings, which are much appreciated, Thanks! Top Basschatter.
  3. I generally let the amp do the work but like to have a little bit of urge in reserve, so I tend towards a higher action at gigs in case I get a tad over-excited...
  4. It's whatever floats your boat. I only said all that stuff to annoy Al Krow.
  5. A Warwick is even less like a Spector than a P Bass is. Any similarities are entirely superficial. Think of a Warwick as a comfy pair of old slippers and a Spector as a Tesla Model S and you'll be getting somewhere. Warwicks only sell because they look a little bit like a proper bass. Otherwise they would have already been consigned to the dustbin of history. File under 'Rickenbacker'.
  6. Yes it's the other way round. Seriously though, every bass player should play a Spector at least once. Just to see what the fuss is about...
  7. No, it really isn't. The fact it has a P-like split pickup means nothing. I've played a lot of P Basses and a number of Spectors and they are almost, but not quite, completely unlike each other in every way.
  8. I'd buy a REDDI today, but for the usual reason... And a Bassman stack, come to that!
  9. That doesn't surprise me - they're both monumental bell-ends.
  10. Yes I've experienced that. The only way to stop a volume war is to turn down yourself. As Ghandi said, 'Be the change you want to see'. A 100w valve amp with a 4X12 is overkill for guitar anywhere but a festival or stadium. Even then, pros use them largely for show. A Vox AC30 is loud enough for any size room - and that without PA assistance.
  11. I just don't understand why guitarists do this. Is it an ego thing? Are they deaf? I've been to at least two auditions at which a guitarist was silly loud, one of them half-deafening me for days. In both cases I asked if they always played at this volume and when they said 'yes', I immediately walked. I can't be doing with these fecking wunkers. This behaviour is selfish, stupid and very unprofessional. But at least it does have the advantage of letting you know immediately what sort of tosser you're dealing with, thus saving time.
  12. When viewing the site on my phone I can't see signatures OR location. Just sayin'.
  13. And Bob Holness didn't play sax on Baker Street...
  14. Absolutely. And if you have 'quiet on stage' at a gig, it makes the engineer's job a lot easier too.
  15. Just tried Roto 77 Monel Flats on my Jazz... Like! Tried La Bellas on it last week and they didn't really work. But they sound phenomenal on a P... erm... that's it. :|

Are they still rough feeling and slightly clanky sounding for flats?  I had a couple of sets in the 90s when I was starting out, and that's my abiding memory of them.

The silks are tatty (being used) but the strings are smooth. They are slightly more toppy than La Bellas but still round and warm. Good flats for a Jazz.

Hmm, maybe the quality wobbled back when I had them.  Mine almost felt and looked like groundwounds.

  16. It IS uneccesary. I've been in some stupidly loud bands, so my current band, with both a drummer AND a guitarist who can play very quietly, is like being on holiday. So much easier to get a good sound without everything on '11' and you can listen properly too. Sweet!
  17. A drummer has two sorts of timekeeping to get right, then. Neither can be ignored!
  18. This is guaranteed to boil my fosters. I'm not the world's most reliable man, but my reckoning is that if I can turn up on time, then anyone can. Persistent lateness is just pure selfish bullcrap.
  19. Don't worry, soon you will be cleansed, absolved, anointed, forgiven and can enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
  20. When I first got my Spector Euro4 I played it until the sun came up. No other bass has had this effect on me. There's something about a Spector that is just very, very right somehow and the sounds they can produce are unique, yet universal. I still regret selling mine and when I can afford to buy another, I will! Every Spector I've played has been special, even the so-called 'budget' range is quality.
  21. Jesus H Christ! Surely these can only have been deliberately produced specifically to bring the company to its knees?? I'm no guitar designer me, but I could do better than that with both eyeballs stuffed up my rectum. That 'Strat' looks like a haggis drawn from memory by a chimp.
  22. Was that him too? Love the piano on that track. Very un-Rick.
