  1. Ha! Interested from a medical point of view only. I'm glad to hear you're OK. Lovely bass, too.
  2. We are, aren't we? Er... do you have any pics of the tumour?
  3. Rick Wakeman played keys on Bowie's Space Oddity. Jimmy Page played guitar on Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual.
  4. Tapan very kindly donated a GK 200MB Combo to me, which I will fettle and put to good use one way or another. Thank you!
  5. In the 70s we would rehearse stoned, gig stoned and do everything else stoned. The audiences would be stoned, too. In fact most people were stoned, all the time. Or at least that's what it seemed like!
  6. No. Gigged once after about 200 mushrooms and was very disconcerted by sounds, which manifested themselves as large, colourful geometric shapes... interesting, but not necessarily conducive to a good performance...
  7. Last time I did that I couldn't find my purple sheep because I was distracted by all the cobwebs in the trees. And I kept tripping over frogs, which were everywhere, for some reason...
  8. That's the important thing. If it sounds good, is comfortable to play and importantly - you like it, then that's your bass.
  9. Swigs from a bottle of water yes, but food or watching TV? Why is it even on while the band's playing? We once had a keyboard player who insisted on eating crisps during gigs from a packet he kept on top of his piano. We sacked him.
  10. Wait, that sounds very familiar - was it New Order..?
  11. ...people always mention Yoko in this context, but Eva was far worse!
  12. Makes all the difference. My new band has a quiet drummer AND guitarist (Yes I know). Most bands usually have one idiot who is way too loud, but this time I think it might be me...
  13. I joined a pro function band for the money but in the end it wasn't enough. Miss the cash, but not the band!
  14. I didn't vote because it makes little difference. Go with the one that is lighter and/or the one you most like the look of. Then make sure your electrics and hardware are top-notch and the neck is a premium product. PS: Go with the maple board.
  15. Yes, I too wondered about this... I do sympathise with anyone who is not having fun in their current band, but I would ask the question... if you don't like Thin Lizzy, why did you join a Thin Lizzy tribute band..? Did not their name give it away somewhat..? Mind you, regularly travelling 100 miles for a gig is a giant pain in the bum, I know that for sure. It grinds you down after a while, especially if it's no fun when you get there.
  16. A brave decision given how hard it is to make any sort of living from music. Who would continue to do what they do if cash wasn't king? I'm sure most people remain where they are through inertia and/or fear of insecurity.
  17. I've owned one and would rate it to be at least as good as a RW P, if not better in some ways. Bear in mind I rate RWs to be on a par with US Fenders. Limelights are very good value, too.
  18. The Harley Benton PB-50 at £97 from Thomann has a good chunky neck, can be made to thump with the best of them and looks reasonable with a bit of fettling... https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/319730-hb-pb-50-modded-version-30/
  19. The belief that a bass sounds different depending which wood the body is made from (tonewood), is largely risible IMHO, but in my experience the chunkiness of a neck does seem to have a bearung ob tobe. I'm sorry, I have a cold.
