  1. Given the amount of GAS evident on this forum alone, I'd say A LOT.
  2. Yes, a RW P strung with La Bellas gets you the quintessential Fender old school sound. If you've got an all-valve amp too, so much the better.
  3. You leave my hole career out of this.
  4. Yes, La Bellas will get you the classic old school sound on a P. While it's true they're not cheap, you can basically fit them and forget them - for the rest of the life of the bass and indeed for the rest of your life - and the life of whoever gets the bass next... and so on... historical La Bellas, Mmmm... I too tried TIs and found them way too 'floppy'. Of course this is very subjective and you will see a range of opinions on them. Edit: Such as that above ^^
  5. Ha! And there, my friends, is everything you need to know about choosing a bass.
  6. I'm guessing Sadowsky, but by no means 100% sure!
  7. Huge GAS for a white Rickenbacker and an all-tube rig!!? What the hell is wrong with me..? Oh wait, it's time for my meds. As you were. :|

Have you considered getting a white poodle with a pink coat and bows ?

it should have much the same visual and audio effect !

I think I'd rather have the poodle than the Rick TBH.

      You're welcome to both!

  8. I don't know about that. I'm between two stools.
  9. It comes to something when you're gigging in areas you normally wouldn't even walk through. Definitely not fun.
  10. I'm happy to tolerate a certain amount of clang and fret buzz, providing it's not audible when amplified. YMMV.
  11. Specific measurements are all well and good, but action is subjective. If you're getting buzzes and rattles then it's too low, if you can't play properly because it's too much effort to press the strings to the board then it's too high. If your bass is sounding good and is comfortable, it intonates properly and it feels right to you, then it is right.
  12. 'Medium' action is around 2-2.5 mm, depending on various other parameters... Fender info here. Jamerson did indeed play with a very high action, but he came to electric bass from acoustic upright bass, so unless you're an experienced doghouse player I'd imagine you'd want a slightly lower action.
  13. I'd have to agree, but I'm enjoying other basses. And it's not likely we'll really have to choose just one bass, thank God...
  14. Have you tried La Bella flats?
  15. Pickup placement has a HUUUGE bearing on tone. Leo spent a LONG TIME deciding where to place the pickup on his P Bass. I think he got it right.
  16. Hee hee, they're not ALL like that. One of the things that put me off Jazzes was the pencil-thin neck that was like playing a broom handle - but just a few decades of trying and I've come to terms with it, and now like it. I can easily switch from one to the other now. Which is great, because no longer do neck parameters prevent me from buying a bass that I like.
  17. You must persevere! Had exactly the same 'problem', but with Jazz Basses. I'm a P Bass guy really, but routinely bought a Jazz every couple of years, didn't like it, sold it on... but stubbornly kept at it... in the end I needed to put together a Jazz I liked, so it's a bitsa - but after forty years, finally - a Jazz I like! It does happen...
  18. Revelation: Fender 7250 nickel rounds are perfect for fingerstyle on a Jazz bass! Heft!

  19. *SOLD* Rotosound RB45 45-105 Rounds, Nickel on Steel £9 Posted These are great strings for a P Bass, especially if played with a pick. Reminds me of how Roto's RS66 Swing Bass USED to be. However, I bought them for my Jazz Bass and in my opinion they don't work so well , especially fingerstyle. So here we are. They've had about ten minutes' use and are cut (generously) for a Fender-style four in line headstock. I'm after just £9 Posted for these as-new strings, so get in! NOW SOLD. I thank you!
  20. *SOLD* OBBM Speaker Cable: Superior Jack to Speakon (2p An OBBM one-metre Speakon-to-Jack amp to speaker cable. I believe this what's known as a Superior Jack, being a lot chunkier than the standard item. Cable is Klotz Twinaxial 2 X 4.0 mm². Obviously as an OBBM product it can be relied on 100%. Cable has had practically no use - I bought it for a cab that had only a jack connection, then sold the cab - so here we are. I'm after £18 which includes postage to your atelier, dwelling or hovel. Bank transfer or PayPal (no fees) please. SOLD. I thank you!
