  1. There used to be an 'Options' tab where we could delete or hide posts. Can we have this back please? It's showing in status update posts but not in regular posts.
  2. Depends if you really think your musical career is over due to not driving. if not, then that's OK. If you do think it's over due to not driving maybe you could look at it again. I've had accidents, but never a massive accident. I don't know if that would put me off driving forever or not. If I'd had a massive accident that was my fault, it could well put me off, I suppose. But I rely so much on my car, even then I'm not sure that I wouldn't give it another go...
  3. So you'd be looking for bands in which no-one has a car? A band that exclusively uses public transport..?
  4. Having a car doesn't trump musical aptitude or skills, but it does trump not having a car. As said above, it's purely a practical consideration.
  5. What a long, strange trip that'll be...
  6. It really is. I understand the environmental, political and financial reasons why people would not want to own a car, but in the real world I just wouldn't be able to function as a bass player without one - in my opinion. Of course, it comes in useful for other things as well. What is the difference between a working band and a hobby band and what are their requirements and expectations? I suspect it's more complicated than merely just the difference between a pro or semi-pro band and an amateur band. This point could probably do with a thread of its own...
  7. I've read lots of 'bass player wanted' ads (like many here) and the words 'must have own transport and gear' appear so often that they are surely implied if they do not. While I sympathise with your situation, from the perspective of a driver who has many times ferried people (and their gear) about - even nice, sober appreciative people who offer petrol money - I can tell you that it's a complete pain in the bum. Maybe this band of drivers had similar experiences and just didn't want to put themselves through it again. Another point is that it's difficult for car-owners to imagine how anyone can possibly get about using only public transport, because they never have to use it!
  8. I see people are comparing UKIP to the Taliban. This is grossly offensive and an insult to the Taliban.

The Taliban, well yet another of the "my book is better than your book so for that you should die" brigade. Dump `em in with Hitler/Stalin etc, ethnic cleansing & genocide not my fave pastimes.

      So he`s a Bond villain as well, that`s multi-tasking..................

  9. They should put the price up, they'd have plenty of interest then! Very much enjoying the Entwistles on my Jazz bass. They're the ceramic ones, not the neo ones, but they're just amazing. Really nice single-coil vibe. They sound more like Jazz bass pickups than, er... Jazz bass pickups. Or something.
  10. Yes. And my horse masks. Makes life more interesting, even though I do smell a bit.
  11. A Christmas tree..? That must have been a difficult delivery.
  12. I can't really comment given the picture I've just posted... I like a 'used' look, I don't like brand new, pristine basses. So I don't buy them.
  13. I'm sensing you're not a big fan of the 'relic' look.
  14. Yes, obviously I had taken way too much Horse.
  15. I prefer to do that myself, it's very therapeutic.
  16. Exactly, my point was more that you may prefer it because of its familiarity rather than any inherent 'sound'. Same goes for gigs, I suppose. If you were about to do a gig and got handed a bass you'd never played before with an action that needed a taxi to get from the strings to the fretboard, it may just affect your performance.
  17. I recommend wearing at least a pair of Y-Fronts, even if you're home alone.
  18. Yes, but isn't it the British weather that continually attacks our precious basses and makes them age quickly, therefore becoming more desirable..?
  19. I agree up to a point... if you're recording, you may like to use a favoured bass for various reasons but live, it's not as important. To this end I've been selling off my decent basses and amps and replacing them with any old crap - and I sound pretty much the same. Edit: Spent an awful lot of money before I figured this out.
  20. Yes, or your tools would be well-hung. Or your boys would be dangling freely. And so on and so forth.
