Love Mogwai and love Dominic’s tone - agree with @Iheartreverb that he always sounds like himself no matter what bass (Precision, Jazz, Music Man StingRay/Sabre, Rickenbacker) or amp he’s using. This is from when they were touring The Hawk is Howling, so pretty old now but I think the basic formula remains unchanged even if he’s now using different individual pedals: And this is a screenshot from Instagram last year, but I couldn’t say whether it’s reflective of what he’s currently using live (nor do I know what most/any of those pedals actually are!):

Ernie Ball Music Man Short Scale StingRay - NOW £1400

Price drop to £1400 Took me years to get hold of one of these and I never thought I’d let it go, but unfortunately we need a new boiler so here goes! Despite the boiler situation, I will entertain trades involving a Precision of equivalent (or lower) value, or a full size StingRay Special. Could also be tempted by an offer involving a JMJ/Vintera II Mustang. The bass is in excellent condition, with a couple of minor blemishes (too small to photograph) and only one real imperfection in the form of a cracked neck plate. Weight is around 3.5kg. La Bella 760FS strings fitted currently, they’re lightly played in but still pretty fresh. Original hard case and tools (allen keys, truss rod adjustment) included. Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

Reluctantly relisting my 2001 EBMM Sterling in long discontinued and much loved honeyburst with rosewood fretboard. Will entertain trades involving a Precision/Jazz of equivalent (or lower) value. Could also be tempted by an offer involving a JMJ/Vintera II Mustang. The bass is in great condition for its age, though there are some scuffs and marks commensurate with two decades of use, and it weighs in at 4.2kg. Original white pickguard reinstalled and electrical tape removed since the majority of these photos were taken (see above), up-to-date photos to follow shortly. Original hard case included which, admittedly, is in less good condition than the bass itself (see photo of missing clasp) but still provides adequate protection. Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

His name is Kaveh Rastegar: The bass is an original 1964 Precision, finish is apparently Ocean Turquoise Metallic but a quick Google suggests that was only introduced in 1965 so… who knows 🤷

Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling 4H - Now £1175 - *WITHDRAWN*
JoeS replied to JoeS's topic in Basses For Sale
Still available and thank you @Quatschmacher for providing the details. If you want to imagine the neck profile, I’d say it’s somewhere between a typical Jazz and an Ibanez SR (although it’s been a while since I’ve played one of those). Thanks Kev, have to say I’m slightly surprised (but not disappointed!) that it’s still here. Had I not managed to get my hands on a short scale StingRay the Sterling would probably be my number one, they really are fantastic instruments. -
*PRICE DROP* Fender JMJ Mustang (Daphne Blue w/ Hipshot Ultralites) - *SOLD*

*Price drop to £850 collected with the stock tuners, £900 collected with Ultralites* Reluctantly adding my JMJ Mustang to the several that have appeared in this particular corner of BC in recent weeks. I’ve listed this twice before over the past year and withdrawn it both times, but having gigged it over the weekend it’s time to accept that Mustangs just aren’t for me. The bass is now slightly more road worn than when it left the factory, but any additional nicks are cosmetic only. To be honest, unless you compared it to a brand new one you’d be hard pressed to tell which dings were done on purpose and which have happened more, er, organically. I recently had the stock tuners replaced with Hipshot Ultralites (lollipop, of course) in the hope that these would cure the bass’s tendency to want to hang horizontally and make me fall in love with it. One out of two ain’t bad, eh? I’ve also had a set of La Bella 760F-MUS strings fitted, however these were cut slightly short (not by me!) and, as a result, the open A string rattles in the nut when played with a pick. This wasn’t an issue with the strings that were on it previously, so I would expect a couple of extra winds around the tuning peg would have done the trick. (Photos taken pre-upgrades but I will take some more up-to-date ones this week.) Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred but I’m always happy to meet at a service station or similar within a reasonable distance. I’d like a straight sale but would entertain trades involving a nice Precision of some sort (American Standard, American Professional I/II, Nate Mendel etc). Thanks for looking and if you have any questions just give me a shout.

Ernie Ball Music Man Sterling 4H - Now £1175 - *WITHDRAWN*

*NOW £1025* On the fence about listing this as it’s comfortably the best bass I’ve ever owned, however at around 4.6kg/10lbs it’s also the heaviest and has therefore been relegated to occasional home use. I’ve gigged this a fair bit and there are some signs of wear. as you can see in the photos. However, on the whole it’s in good condition and plays stupendously well (helped by the nicely worn-in Thomastik Infeld flatwounds). Gig bag and a smattering of case candy included (some labels/stickers and an incomplete set of strap locks) as well as a Zero Mods thumb rest, which I briefly fitted before learning to love the sound and feel of playing over the pickup. Ideally looking for a sale but would entertain trades involving a short scale StingRay (EBMM preferred but I will consider SBMM). Collection from Haywards Heath preferred, alternatively I’d be happy to meet within a reasonable distance.

*NOW £925* A fine a example of a great bass and one I'd love to keep hold of, but as it doesn't get used live and I'm not likely to have any recording work in the immediate future it is sadly surplus to requirements. Would entertain trades involving a short scale StingRay (EBMM preferred but I will consider SBMM). The bass is in good condition and comes with the original (long scale) Fender gig bag. Strings have been changed by the previous owner to some unknown flatwounds (possibly DR Legends) but I do have an opened set of La Bella 760FL-MUS I’d be willing to include for an additional £35. Apart from the change of strings the bass is more or less as it left the factory, albeit slightly more road worn. Collection from Haywards Heath preferred, alternatively I’d be happy to meet within a reasonable distance.

Digitech Bad Monkey in used but very good condition. These might not be (aren’t) worth the obscene prices seen around six months ago, but the Bad Monkey is still a solid, decent sounding and bass friendly overdrive pedal. Original box not included but the pedal will be well packaged should postage be required (this is factored into the asking price). Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass in boring/classic (delete as applicable) sunburst, rosewood and tortoiseshell. The condition of both the bass and supplied hard case are in a condition that most would probably describe as “well loved”. I’ve tried to give a fair illustration of this in the photos and the bass itself feels, plays and sounds absolutely brilliant. However, the output jack is temperamental and in need of attention - I strongly suspect this is a 10 minute job for somebody with the skills and tools I sadly lack, but more than happy to have it looked at by a bigger boy to give any prospective buyers peace of mind. In terms of weight, I’d say it’s somewhere between 9 and 10lbs - lighter than my StingRay, heavier than my Sterling - I will try to get an accurate figure ASAP. *EDIT* Weight is 4.2kg so it is, in fact, precisely as heavy as the Sterling - looks can be deceiving! Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

To be totally honest, I bought this at some point in late 2020 and for most of the ensuing three years I completely forgot I had it. The bass is in reasonable condition but would benefit from some TLC - specifically a proper setup as there is some buzzing around the 12th fret on the E string, and the controls can be a bit crackly. Otherwise it plays and sounds exactly as you would expect, weighs about as much as a packet of crisps and, most importantly, gives you *that* tone all day long. Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

Fender Mustang PJ in sonic blue - yes, I know it looks white in the photos- with rosewood fretboard (not the pau ferro used on later models). Aside from some new strings and a new pickup selector switch (more or less mandatory on these) the bass is in excellent condition, as it should be having spent most of its existence as a rarely needed backup or in a gig bag at home. Note: no such gig bag will be included in the sale. Weight is 3.9kg according to my shiny new luggage scales. Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

*NOW £1175* 2001 EBMM Sterling in long discontinued and much loved honeyburst with rosewood fretboard. Will entertain trades involving an American Standard/American Professional Precision Bass (rosewood fretboard preferred) or Short Scale StingRay (preferably EBMM). The bass is in great condition for its age, though there are some scuffs and marks commensurate with two decades of use. Weight currently unknown but I would estimate a shade over 4kg; certainly not heavy by EBMM standards thanks to the small body which isn’t much bigger than a Mustang’s. Appreciate that weight can be a dealbreaker for some (myself included) so I will endeavour to get an accurate figure ASAP (i.e. when my neighbour gets home so I can borrow their scales). *EDIT* Weight confirmed as 4.2kg according to luggage scales. I have the original white pickguard and screws which can be reinstalled before sale. The electrical tape on the pickup can also be removed - rest assured it’s hiding nothing more than some sharp pole pieces, but I’m happy to take some more photos of the bass in original condition if required. Also included is the original hard case which, admittedly, is in less good condition than the bass itself (see photo of missing clasp) but still provides adequate protection. Collection from Haywards Heath, West Sussex preferred, but I would be happy to deliver or meet within a reasonable distance. Any questions, requests for additional photos etc, just let me know!

Recently bought a short scale StingRay from Bert and the whole process was a pleasure from start to finish - easy to deal with, great communication and the bass arrived quickly and well packaged. Cheers!

The cab clearout continues... I believe these may have been a custom order by the previous owner as I've not been able to find another model online which matches the exact specs: - 2 x 10" speakers (vertically aligned) - Each cab rated at 250W @ 8 ohms - 24" x 18" x 13" (HxWxD) - Approx. 40 lbs each In any case, they sound great - I've mainly used one on its own for rehearsals and small gigs, but they really shine as a pair. Roqsolid covers included. Ideally looking for a straight sale but I could be interested in a deal involving a Markbass 121P/H combo. Collection from Haywards Heath preferred, alternatively I’d be happy to meet within a reasonable distance if I can fit them both in my car (to be confirmed over the weekend).
