1. On Friday we're releasing our new single: Breathe In. This of course calls for a great big party, which we're holding at the Old Bell in Derby, Entry will be free. This is the video for the single: Plenty of other songs too and support from Fun Fun and The Karma Heart (formerly Remedy). Here's our web pages: Website: http://www.james-warner.co.uk Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thejameswarnerprophecies Facebook http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pa...83952164?ref=ts The Karma Heart (formerly Remedy): http://www.myspace.com/remedyrocks FUNFun: http://www.myspace.com/funfunband
2. Rob's a nice bloke, I've been in the same building as this bass, gutted I didn't get a go hehe. Good luck with the sale mate, wish I had the money, I love my Thumb.
3. I'd say a small venue is a room in a pub (including "normal" sized function rooms), a medium venue is a large dedicated room and a large venue is a dedicated building. As a rule of thumb. But it varies. I'd say the room in the Old Angel is a small venue, but I'd say downstairs at Rock City (both Notts venues) is a medium venue, just because of where it is and the amount of people that go through, even though downstairs at Rock City is probably slightly smaller. In terms of amp volume, if an amp can comfortably keep up with a drummer at full pelt, it'll be adequate for anywhere. If the whole drumkit's being mic'd up, the bass will surely be DI'd.
4.
Always a head turner and I personally think the sexiest of all Waricks in terms of body shape
You can get both Corvettes and Streamers in $$ versions (though the Streamers are rarer). I've never had a proper go with a $$, I almost got one a few months back but ended up with my Thumb instead.
5.
also if your bass is active, have a go with a new battery. i've had some horrible noises coming out when running low before.
That was my first choice. If you don't have batteries, if you have anything else at all you could run through it (guitars/iPod/anything) give it a go and see what happens.
6. Thanks guys, I feel happier knowing that I'm sticking with GK, whether or not I can work anything out with them. This morning when I got up I felt more apprehensive about giving up the GK rig than I did about turning down the Warwick endorsement so that made my choice for me. Can't even believe I thought about selling the best rig I've ever used (never mind owned). And thanks Chris, appreciate the help.
7. Withdrawn, as much as I want to accept the endorsement, after thinking for a couple of days, I'm not prepared to give up the best rig I've ever used to buy a cheaper rig I've never even tried. If I get a Warwick rig, it'll be paid for without money from this being involved.
8. Well I've sent an email to GK to see if they could offer me anything. Though working on the assumption that I'm already using their gear, it doesn't make much sense for them to offer me a discount to keep using it when I already have it. It is Warwick that offered me the endorsement (the offer is 100% on the table now so I'm happy to give a name). I can honestly say that I've been impressed with their Profet amps in the shops (never tried out one in any other situation) and that the tubepaths look incredibly tasty. So very tempted by one of those into a 411 cab. If I were to go from my current stack into a Profet 5.2 and 411, I'd actually have quite a lot of cash left over (or I could avoid selling my current amp completely maybe or just sell one cab to get a Profet into 411, not sure what I'd do with two amps though). A tubepath 5.1 and 411 would about work out similar (though I'd lose a bit of money comparing the price of buying the GK new to if I bought a Tubepath and 411 from Thomann, not a lot though). I think taking the relatively small hit on my money would be worth doing to be able to say "We're endorsed by..." whoever, whether it's Warwick or GK or someone else.
9. Unless you have anything urgent coming up in the months until they're back (any releases/big tours) I don't see why you flipped out at them for going. 3 months isn't a long time, if it brings back experiences and a renewed excitement for the band fair enough, if everyone gets back and someone decides that they don't want to continue, at least it's been given a chance rather than written off just because they want to go away. Though the way they said they wouldn't go at practice then texted you later was cowardly.
10.
It sounds like a pretty raw deal for the artist to be honest. How long does a standard deal run for?
As far as I know, just as long as both parties are interested. And it's far from a raw deal, heavily discounted gear? Yes please. It's just a pain because I already have gear from another manufacturer. I think the long term benefits outweight the short term ball aches though. At least it's a risk I'm prepared to take if I can shift my GK rig.
11. Yeah, I'm wondering if it's a bit cheap to be honest hehe, but it's up now. There's still potential for this to get pulled, I'm perfectly happy with this rig, it's just an ego thing and to look good to accept the endorsement. I don't think the amp I'd get will be any better or worse on the whole of it. I'll be losing a bit of money, but hey, you only live once. I'll also be very open to selling just one of the cabs for £350. I'll spill the beans on who it is when it's all 100%. It's a definite offer, but I'm not 100% I want to accept it yet.
12. It is partially the pride thing, I'll not deny that. These amps' RRP is cheaper anyway, but I could basically move from my rig to an equivalent rig (though a single 4x10 instead of 2 2x10s, I could get the 2x10s but if hey, as has been said, I want the loud one (or it would be if I got another 410 anyway)) and have a fair bit of pocket change (this is all assuming I can sell my rig for around the £1000 mark, which I think is more than fair considering it's age) or I could upgrade it to a high end head and fork out a little extra. I'm fairly confident I'm gonna go for it if I can get the cash for my GK rig. I'm just crap at making choices. Taking the endorsement would also be good for upgrading my amp, though I don't feel I really need to at the moment, if I move up to 2x4x10s, it'd be a lot cheaper, same if I ever needed more power from my head.
13. Thanks. Just had a reply from the potential endorser, so this sale's definitely on now. I'll get up some pics ASAP, but this whole stack looks great, there's some scuffing if you look closely at the corners of the cabs, a mark on the back of one and a slight bent bit of metal and a scratch on the back of the head (which you can't see once it's racked) but it's otherwise perfect. The plastic's only been off one of the cabs about 2 weeks. I even still have all the boxes (complete with all the cellophane and polystyrene) if you want them too. Just to give you an idea of what it looks like, here's a pic from when I'd just had it delivered. Obviously there's another cab now and I'm not including the tuner or the rack in the sale.
14. I've just been offered an endorsement by a big company and I'm pretty excited about it! But (I hate to say that because I'd love to take this endorsement without a 2nd thought) I've only had my GK amp for the last 4 months or so, I've not even finished paying it off yet and I absolutely love it. The endorsement I've been offered is for a company that also make very nice amps and if I hadn't just payed out £1500 for my stack, I'd have no problems picking this one over it. To accept the endorsement, I'd have to sell the GK, I wouldn't really be losing any money because of the savings from the endorsement, but I'd basically be paying retail price (maybe a little over after all the factors are taken into account) on the new gear after factoring the loss on the GK, plus the hassle and time of trying to sell it. If it was purely about getting a new amp, I'd refuse it because I don't need a new amp really, I like the one I have already. The thing is though, how much of an advantage is there to having a big brand as an endorsement? Aside from actually buying things, how much influence does it carry when people are looking at your band's website and your own personal stuff and see a big name there? I know that my band really wants me to accept the endorsement because it looks good for us (they're trying to find endorsements too) and I want to do it for myself too, but it'll be a fair bit of messing about to make it happen. Have any of you guys that have endorsements seen much rise in activity with your bands/session work because people are seeing your endorsement or is it really not making any difference? I think I'm gonna try and go with it, purely because I'll be kicking myself if I don't, but it's not the easy choice that I always thought an endorsement offer would be.
15.
Pardon my ignorance. How does an endorsement deal work? You have to pay for it?..... type bump.
Yeah (unless you're massively famous), it's heavily discounted though. To be honest I don't really know the details of this one (except the discount amount) which is why this is only a feeler. Once I find out more, this'll either be a FS thread or I'll take them down. Hopefully the former.
16. This is all less than 6 months old, it's been gigged fairly heavily for the amount of time I've had it but it's just scuffed and it all still works perfectly and sounds awesome. Frankly if it wasn't for upgrading to bigger, louder stuffs, I'd never dream of getting rid of it. I'd be looking for £350 each. I'll get up pics in the next few days, these work perfectly though. There's a few scuffs to the corners of the cabs and one has a slight red mark on the rear panel where I caught it with a car boot. The head's slightly bent on one of the bits of metal that protrudes past the main body of the head, the paint's completely undamaged though so I'm assuming it's a manufacturing fault. This is all less than 5 months old, one of the cabs is about 4 and the other's about 2. The head's slightly older. All were bought from new. Sounds absolutely stunning. I've regularly gigged with just one cab but I got the 2nd for more projection at bigger gigs and so I could feel confident with other bands using it (just one of the 2x10s does struggle a little at loud gigging volume, but I've used it in large halls with no problems and no PA, I just felt a bit on edge because I worry about stuff like that). This is basically a compact stack from their Artist range, if you look on their website you can see the other people that use a similar set up, including their main endorsers (Flea uses a 2001RB-II into 2 410RBH cabs instead of the 700RB-II into 2 210RBHs). As you'll see from the pics, it's quite scuffed (been gigged heavily and put down lots whilst loading/unloading on concrete) but it's still in good condition overall. It wasn't all plugged in when I took the pics, but I have the kettle lead and 2 4 pin speakons (the speakons came with the stack, I have all my kettle leads stuffed together in a bag, the original is one of them hehe).
17. Just as a personal update for this thread, I got another 210RBH (so that's 700RB-II into 2x210RBHs). Can't imagine I'd ever need a louder amp, when needed I can just take along one of the 210s and it manages (just, but if the space is needed, it's ok). Anyone that uses 2x410RBHs must be insane or deaf, I can't imagine ever needing that much volume..ever. But they do look awesome! hehe
18. Back from the dead bump with everything back for sale as I was let down on the Ed and CEB.
19. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT My amp, all original etc, accepting offers (here and eBay) and a BIN price. I'm sure most people looking at this kind of amp know how much a full set of Mullards in good condition are worth on their own, never mind with the amp with an original speaker. Thom.
20. This is now on the 'bay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT
21. Up to the top, want a quick sale on this so will look at any offers. Still potentially open to trades (maybe with cash from me towards a nice Jazz) but I'd rather cash.
22. Bumpity uppity. There's a few good basses floating around this FS section so I'm eager to get rid of this.
23. Ok, this thing's great, been my main amp for almost 10 years of gigging, never had any problems with it apart from a power transformer going a few years back and the volume pot is currently in need of a re-solder (it works perfectly with that held still with gaffa tape). I will take some photos of it soon, but it basically looks like this (but is a little bigger): Considering that it's almost 10 years old and it's been heavily gigged, it doesn't have any serious signs of ageing, the carpet is a bit flattened and fluffy but there's no severe rips. Likewise the corners are scuffed but there's no dents and all the corner protectors are there. I will sort out the soldering (I don't have a soldering iron, but I'm in work tomorrow and I'll try and remember to take it down there.) These amps got replaced not long after I picked this up with the newer models which didn't get such good reviews and looked (IMO) cheaper and plastic, this is the older version with the black grille and knobs, so it's quite hard to find details on them. From what I remember these had the Celestion in them (which was the main reason for the big change in appearance when Carlsbro stopped working with Celestion) I might be wrong on that though. This is 150w amp into a 15" speaker but make no mistakes it's loud. It puts my 320w GK to shame when I'm only using it through a single 210RBH (which aren't quiet amps). Because it's so reliable I've never had problems lending it out, I once was chatting to a soundguy at a gig when the support band was using it and he removed the bass from the mix then put it back, there was almost no difference at all and it wasn't even cranked. For anyone wanting to buy a gigging amp on a budget, this would be perfect for you. Looking at £150 to take it away.
