Dealers here are still selling them for the equivalent of 450GBP. http://baskytary.heureka.cz/ibanez-sr-505m/

This is the blog of my younger brother and part time luthier. I've been trying to coax a bass out of him for at least 20 years but still only hollow things with 6 strings. http://woodwithstrings.blogspot.com

The problem with thin cables is not so much resistance - the cable's resistance will be negligible compared to the input impedance of an amp. The real problem is capacitance, especially with long cables, and it will cause a reduction of top end response. The manufacturers of raw cable normally list this spec for their cables, but usually not so for finished/assembled instrument cables.

Or as is being discussed on another thread, a parametric EQ will allow you to choose the frequencies you want to boost or cut.
-
I've been a dabbler on bass for many years but haven't owned or even used a lot of gear. I read a lot of complaints about the EQ on various brands/models - "the mid control operates at too low a frequency" or similar. It seems to me that multi-band parametric (even semi-parametric) EQ allows a range of tone shaping that should satisfy almost anyone, so I'm wondering why fixed frequency EQ (eg Fender tone stack) with frequencies chosen to suit someone else, seems to be the norm.

If you consider how many inversions of polarity a signal goes through in the electronics between studio microphone and consumer speakers, the polarity obviously makes no difference whatsoever. EDIT: Or the equivalent effect of moving your ears half a wavelength closer to, or further from a speaker.
Or re-solder a connector cable to invert the phase - cheaper still! :-)
This would only work with a balanced connection. Flipping the connections on an unbalanced cable would connect earth to hot and hot to earth - result, dead silence.

It's early days but I've been running an EPQ900 for a few months (not class D but has SMPS). It seems sturdy and well put together. It blows air out of the left side which might be a problem in a rack case if run full tilt for long periods. I had the opportunity to turn it up last weekend and the available clean volume is disappointing. It runs into output limiting (sounds more like clipping to me) at a lower volume than the Samson Servo 300 it replaced. It's supposedly 580W "RMS" bridged into an 8 ohm load but doesn't seem to have the same wallop as the Samson under the same conditions. The EPQ's level is set to maximum and I'm controlling volume with the preamp's output level control so I'm confident it's not input clipping. I realised later I was running with my preamp's HPF switched off so will try again this weekend with the filter on. Maybe there's a lot of subsonic stuff driving it close to clipping. TBA.

Never used to wear them on stage in my previous life as a vocalist. Part vanity and also felt less terrified if I couldn't see the crowd.
It's going on the list of things I refuse to believe, along with God and potato bread outside of Northern Ireland.
God outside of Northern Ireland? Ridiculous!

As listed on a dealer's site, these are the neck dimensions for the B4 (and in fact for all of the Artisan series): NECK WIDTH 1F : 40mm / 24F : 64mm NECK THICKNESS 1F:20.5mm, 12F:22mm

What CD's you have in the car at the moment?

Surely there's no copyright on a chord sequence. Or is there? If it's available, I claim the blues.
Also watch out for Tech21 gear which has separate 230V and 240V versions for use in Europe and the UK respectively. I found out the practical way; by blowing up a brand new RBI
The standard in both the UK and continental Europe is 230V ±10% - i.e. 207 to 253V so there shouldn't have been a problem.

I've got one of these gathering dust in a box. Is there any demand for them?

Almost any other than the alleged band I currently play with. It's a musical desert over here and I don't have choices. Beginning to doubt that playing with anyone is better than not playing

The Joe Meek preamp will drive the XLS1000 without any problem. It can give around 20V of output signal if you need it - but the XLS1000 needs only 1.4V. No idea about the Sansamp's output level although the manufacturers say it will drive a power amp.

Behringer is crap! - is it? do we give labels too much weight?
Who upped Skoda's game.. Skoda themselves or Volkswagen?
I'm sure Skoda's wheels would have fallen off (metaphorically just as they used to do literally) if VW hadn't stepped in. From what I've read about Behringer, their quality problems were a result of farming out production to China. Now that they've set up their own factory, things seem to have improved. -
So do I take a chance on the Skoda of the amp world , or stick with the Battlestar Gallactica of the CS800
If Behringer have upped their game to the same degree as Skoda, then there's no reason not to go that way. My own experience of Behringer gear has been good. Most of it has been low power stuff like signal processors, small mixers etc, but I've been running one of their power amps (EPQ900) for a few months now without incident - admittedly not anywhere near full power. Time will tell. -
It's easier and tidier to use a small drill bit to create breaks in the tracks. Wrap it with tape to protect your fingers and twirl away.
Might be overkill for your needs but have a look at Caustic. It's a complete electronic music production tool with synths, drum machines, effects - basically Reason but running on a phone. The sequencer allows for pattern or song modes and looping and pretty sure you can import your own wav files so should be capable. There's sure to be a simpler solution available but if the extra capabilities are any use to you then it's worth a look!
Thanks for the tip. I had already looked at Caustic after finding tons of recommendations but I couldn't get it to load the wav files for some reason.

For practising and jamming, I downloaded some 10 second drum files in wav format but can't get them to loop seamlessly in any of the variable playback speed players I've tried so far. I'm running Android 2.3 on a cheap tablet. 1. Is there a gapless player (with variable speed) or is this a lost cause? 2. If yes, then can anyone recommend a decent software drum machine?
the problem with Bass frequencies is that they take a space of around 60ft to be at their peak energy
