Man.... I will call it...butterfly from caterpillar .... I bought the bass ...old strings, dusty... smoker flat, dogs.... but even with the old (!) Warwick red label strings it was a promissing sound... Came home and spend some long time cleaning bass and fretboard, oiling etc...it turned out to be a very beautiful bass! With new d'addario steels it sounds superb!!! I am realy happy. Had a BB424 last year (white) that did not sound like this one. Bought and sold a BB1024 last year..it had a baseball racket neck and was far to heavey. I tend to buy it anyway if it is in a good condition. If I won't play it myself I will be pleased to give it to a BB fan! 😉

For a quiet recent project to display I am working on getting the org. stuff on youtube. Tonight I will be able to test (and buy) a good looking BB414 in red burst(?) - don't know the name of the finish. I still can give it away for the same price if it does not fit me.

Yes...if I could have some of the basses back that I sold ...or did not buy.... I would be the luckiest guy in the world! 🙂 I do both...sessions from time to time and mainly own band stuff. Mostly rock music.

It was a pro, not a contra statement! Built like a tank, solid, felt "expensive" . I would buy and play it live, in the studio I would still go for the bolt on basses. When I was thinking about buying it, it was a bass that was "arround" on the market. Today it is very rare and I would buy it ! 🙂

And when they do they are really expensive! I remember seeing the ads for the new BB Michael Anthony when it came out back then and reading the price...... crazy

I would be interessted in that 3000MA too if it was in reach. Unfortunately I have no idea where it went to 😞

But it was a notable difference in quality. The 3000ma just feels like a tank! Somehow you know while playing that this is a different class of bass. The normal 3000 is of the same quality. I had one of the last 40 ever built BB3000 and fitted a Glockenklang active pre amp in. Somehow the org. set up did not have enough low end for my ears. But this hybrid was not the real deal for me, again I missed the punch of the bolt on neck. Sold it.

At first the shape. The 3000ma is a (when you are used to "classic" BBs) notable different body shape. Then the materials. The 3000ma has a mahogany body. Then the reversed P-pickup. Then the sound - due to the body materials. The MA sounds "darker", more growling in my ears. I was about to buy the 3000ma but I just won't get happy with neck trough basses. I play with my fingers and a quiet hard attack and only the bolt ons give me the punch that I need. Handling wise the BB3000ma was the best Yamaha that I played. Soundwise my two 1000ma's fit me so well that when I had the 3000ma for testing a few weeks it could not outplay (out-sound..) the bolt on versions!

I did not even go to have a personal look at it. While posting the pics, the one of the bridge turned me off so much that I called it off. I like a proper pimpin' on a bass but this was to much for me. Was offered a Taiwanese BB300 in a stunning condition for 280 Euros yesterday... thinking.. 🙂

Hi guys.... is this worth 350 Euros? Will have a look at it tonight, noticed the not org. bad a.s.s. bridge that is not sitting on top of the body ...it is immerged into the wood...

Does anybody know if it is possible to get colour information about a special red tone that they used on BB3000 basses back then? I want to get a BB body refinished in that colour.

Yes, the normal model is out for a while I think, saw this model yesterday too.... Not my cup of tea. Boring design - in my thoughts, and the walnut finish.... togehter with I think.. 3300,- Dollars... not for me. The Yamaha MA design is a dream come true, would love to buy a 3000MA any time! When Michael announced the Schecter model first, I was realy disappointed 😞

I don't know if that sounds weird but every time I try out a 734 against a BBP in the Musicstore I always prefer the 734. -For me- the neck fells better and it is the far more better bass when it comes to feel and playability. I always try to think, tha's not possible, but I won't buy a BBP ... Fender must be Yamaha's aim when it comes to colours... by the way I liked the 414 better than the 424. Had both. For the neck through... I love the neck through BBs but I prefer the bolt ones tone wise. It features my fingerstyle playing better with more punch. Are you happy with the b string? Have not played a 735 yet.

I would love to have the chance to buy a BB that combines best of both worlds. It would not be THAT difficult for a company like Yamaha - who did it in former years 😉

I like the colours of the 414 better. 700series colours are a bit.... boring too 😞
