1. Is this really better than reaching out and moving a slider or turning a knob?
2. It looks like a contoured body to me, in which case it may be a post '53 P bass. If it's a slab body, it's either an earlier P or a '68-'70 Tele.
3. Try hanging a large sheet behind you, be creative, make it look good.
4. I know it's the law that musicians' youtube videos have to be recorded in front of their un-made beds, but it might help you stand out from the crowd and look more professional if you thought about location a bit more. Also, I feel wearing a strap would look better - somehow more professional and committed. Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck!
5. Only been asked to show it once and that was after we'd set up! My understanding is that for gear with seperate power leads, only the leads need to be tested, which saves getting all your kit out when they come to test.
6.
Me to...Awsome place - I think Barry the owner had a sister shop in LA, or some relationship with them. I always remember his Porsche being parked out side. Got myself a Wal 5 there in 1989. The pub around the corner [the name escapes me] was a nice little social gathering place. Garry
Yes, I went to the LA one once. There was also one in Birmingham - any memories of that one?
7.
If you're referring to the Brune Street one, that was only a pale shadow of the mighty Wapping Bass Centre. Words cannot describe how great that place was. Or the stock they had. Fender, Gibson, Warwick, Dingwall, Alembic, Smith, Status, Parker, Musicman, Vigier, Ovation, Washburn, Steinberger, Kubicki, Yamaha, Ibanez.... And that's just the basses. Never mind the amps, strings, accessories.....
I was a regular in the Wapping days, I'd never think of it as "The Brune street one." Their existence now as an appointment only shop, seems odd; I wonder how they keep going.
8. It's clearly nothing to do with The Bass centre.
9. The worst thing I've noticed is people beginning sentences with "So"... (Smiley face)
10.
Grohl's speech is bloody funny too ..
The kimonos may have gone out of fashion, but clearly the moustaches have not.
11. It makes sense to think it's all about bringing in punters to buy beer and thus create a happy landlord. However, be aware that there are plenty of landlords out there who are somewhat fussy in their personal music tastes and if you don't fit this, you will not be rebooked, no matter how full the venue gets when you play.
12. What is the deluxe Tele - a guitar? '72 Tele bass was the first for 3 bolt.
13. Also worth noting that the Precision never adopted the bullet truss rod either.
14. Good question. The 3 bolt was first introduced on the second version of the Tele bass in '72 and the Jazz followed. I would imagine it was more expensive to produce, due to the micro-tilt system, but I've heard of players being put off by a percieved lack of stability (never an issue in my experience).
15. Sounds more like a technique issue to me; the note is mishit (mispopped?)
16.
And that, good sir, is rock. No funk in there. Can we please, please, please all stop using the word "groove" as we have established that it is a too ambiguous and widely defined word to be useful. My biggest problem is that I can listen to a song and instantly know whether a song is rock or funk according to my personal definitions, but can't articulate it accurately to save my life !
Since "Groove" is the first word in the title of this thread, I don't think we can do that. (Though I agree about its ambiguity.)
17.
Groovy Rocky baby.
Correct. Doug (Dug) Pinnick fits the description better than any other player mentioned. Imagine if there were bass players unfamiliar with his work - unthinkable!
18.
If we are talking live show then always pre, give the engineer a nice clean signal to work with, they know the venues foibles better than you or I
Agree 100%. Be the sound man's friend!
19. How do you put the strings on? I pull, stretch and bend mine with all my strength, until they won't go out of tune. Then I leave them slightly sharp for a while, before checking intonation and then off I go. I've had one tuning problem in 26 years of gigs.
20. What else would you do with a Ford Focus?
21. Any band playing six nights a week for decent money.
22.
Almost all of the above was achieved playing in either covers or tribute bands
So what?! You stood on stage and played music to people. It all counts!
23. If like me, cruel fate has somehow robbed you of international touring and recording success, what more lowly gigging ambitions do you have? Playing every county of England, or possibly the UK seems like a realistic challenge for me. I've managed 27 so far.
24. Removing a Badass II and replacing it with the stock bridge has left 5 exposed screw holes behind the bridge on my '97 Jazz.
25. Get in a band now! I said yes to my first gig before I could play a note. Your progress in the next three years will be a hundred times more than if you sit at home on your own.
