I'm never totally happy with where I am-I always want to go further. Technically,I've tried most things.I've certainly got the patience to do it.Normally if I want to try something I'll sit for a few hours until I've got it. Even though I play with my fingers 95% of the time,I still keep my thumb and pick chops up.
great attitude

love the way i've been tarred as a markbass hater when i've got a giant markbass rig lol... and all this from a conversation that didn't even happen on basschat! it seems our opinions and ideas and opinions aren't safe anywhere
-
on my p bass i use the edge of the chrome pickup cover to play in that position, then a thumb rest above the neck position.. works well, so i can imagine the thumb rest down there would work niceeee
He used to ask me for advice you know :sniff: To be honest, knowing Mr Fudge like I do, a Rick through a valve amp would be ideal.
yeah.. have only seen him play in the shop and listened outside the rehearsal room, and i agree... but the one thing you can be assured of, that through a markbass amp, it will definately sound like a ric!
I am so, so sorry. How on earth did you meet that reprobate? Some kind of group therapy session I imagine?
im just the local music shop/rehearsal room monkey..

the bass player he knows was in fact me in this situation... so thanks for all the kind words about my opinion... "rather snobbish" and "prone to making silly statements" were my favourites..

3 x 5's 2 x 4's i use the 5's mainly.. the one four is a vintage precision, which i use cuz the band mates prefer it that way (stuupid image thing) and the other is the fretless, which doesn't get used. 5 is my comfort zone and where i'm most happiest

we had one in the shop, sold it about a month ago.. good amp for the money.. wouldn't trust it on its own with a loud band.. but for samll to medium gigs its great!

the smallest stagg board would look fine, and its about 15 quid
You're very right and would be the cheapest way to deal the problem however it implies plugging the bass directly to the mixer... i don't understand the science around mixers inputs and impedances but from what i've been hearing and reading all these years the majority of prople say it's always preferable to send a balanced signal to a mixer. Having said that, i've plugged my bass direcly to the mixer (to a insert input - mono Jack) a lot of times for lack of balanced channels and it sounded just fine. When i DI to a balanced channel i get the feeling that the sound gets tidier anf a bit fuller... maybe not the best words to describe it... laking a bit of english vocabulary in this one!
you are completely right my suggestion was just in case the OP didn't want to buy anything else... so here we have one of those wonderful situation where we are both right. Hoorah!
Buy a DI, something like this: It's cheap. Plug your bass into it then use the link out to connect to the power amp and the DI out to connect to the mixing desk and get rid of that Roland in your setup! That's how i would do it. Cheers
or if you powered mixer has an output marked aux or monitor, use that, just like running out to a powered monitor. Just make sure its an unpowered send, otherwise stuff will get hot very quickly..

Hey Everyone! I'm selling this on my shop account: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...29#ht_954wt_907 I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about them... i don't really have a clue, and some of you guys are such amazing gear gurus! Anyone ever had one? a band member use one?? JMT

cant believe some of you have to pay extra to rent a bass rig... in the rooms where i work you get a tama kit, marhsall stack, marshall combos, 8x10 ashdown + head and a little peavey rig and pa and mics all for 12 pound an hour all in! free cymbal hire too, but they are gash lol!

advertising the peak power is something the internet is very good at.. we have a constant stream of young DJ types coming into the shop with their "1000w" speakers that they have destroyed on the first gig.. wanting us to fix them. Bit of a dastardly trick
That 112 looks great! Not shure about the tweeter switching though (full/off/-6dB) but 500W@8ohm would be perfect for my shuttle 9.0! Would love to see more pics on the back and sides. Can't see the handle on the web pics but it has feets to be stand on it's side (using as reference the pis on-line). Had they been as smart as Promethean with a recessed handle? That's the only flaw i can put in my incoming GB STL-12T...
they aren't 500 watt, thats the peak power (it'll do 500w, but wont do much else after ) i think on the back it says they are 150w, or maybe 200. the tweeter switching actually works very well, the -6 setting being the best of the three imo

I was just wondering what other people had to work with at their local studio, as i result of learning some of you have markbass At ours, we have Ashdown ABM EVO 500's with ABM 8x10's I normally bring my Markbass SD1200 and use it to run one of the 8x10's... quite a good sound.. not as bright as my own cabs, but its fine for practice so what do you guys have to work with, or do you take your own?
-
where are all these rehearsal studios getting money for markbass lol!
I'm wondering if it's more to do with the actual bass in relation to this "muddy" or "wooly" sound as opposed to just the MB cabs?
thats the thing.. markbass, and all other hi-fi rigs is giving you the sound of your bass when i run my 73 p bass through it it sounds woolly and undefined, with wood and tronics and the shuker it sounds delightful
-
sounds interesting, is that why so many jazz style basses have turned up in jons stock page?
-
yeah.. after checking out the online prices.. thinking twice about ordering them in.. those online prices are about 100 quid less than the rep has quoted us as RRP's... Long live the internet lol!
-
yeah.. we have the new lightweight gk stuff in the shop too.. the 2x10 combo is a bit louder sounding, but the build quality on thee fender cabs is stunning! cant wait to try them with a markbass head
