That’s progress or something like that! I guess it’s true though - the presence of multidriver IEMs from China has really shook up the entry point for IEMs... and when they are offering so much more than the 215s they are competing against... well, it’s a bit of a no brainer. You primarily pay for bass and headroom... and things like the ZS10 have it in spades. As I say, not necessarily sonically brilliant - but for monitoring use as opposed to critical listening, fantastic. Having said that, there’s more than a few people out there who would say that they are great as a set of critical listening IEMs. I’m not sure I agree with that - but I guess it’s all subjective!

http://www.custom-inearmonitors.co.uk/iems/ultimate-ears-ue-6-pro-custom-in-ear-monitors.html The above is where you want to be at. Save your money for those. Well worth the visit to see Paul at CIEM Co. above as you can compare all the different models (albeit in a non custom form!). He's a one stop shop for getting impressions made and handles everything until the customs arrive on your door mat. The more budget option - that will give you far more headroom and a superior low end response, well, that would be the ZS10 or AS10. Much, much cheaper than the Shure. What they give up in "reference" quality, they gain in headroom... which is way more beneficial from a live IEM point of view. Alot of people, myself included, would take a set of ZS10s over a set of 535s purely because of the extended headroom in the bass. The UE6 however... well, that gives you the extended lows, superior isolation (meaning you don't have to drive the drivers as hard) but gives you a far superior tuning (e.g. crossovers, frequency response, phase alignment) to the standard universals (which are typically just place some balanced armatures (speakers) in a casing. You may notice that the UE6 is a triple driver setup - so whats different to your 535s? Well, 535s are a triple balanced armature setup as opposed to the UE6 hybrid setup (which is a dynamic speaker in the mid, the low and a balanced armature in the high). What's this mean? A dynamic typically has greater headroom, greater bass response and has a warmer timbre to a balanced armature. I tend to say that a dynamic roughly equals 2 balanced armatures in the lows. Dynamics give up a little detail - but I would wager 99% of people wouldn't know in a blind test. The hybrid setup of the UE6 with the balanced armature in the highs however, still give you are the sparkle, air and detail where you need it. I would normally recommend a quad balanced armature setup for a bassplayer - but the UE6 gives the same sort of experience (due to the added headroom and bass response of the dynamic drivers) - and a lower cost compared to a quad armature custom.

Channel switch through patchbay not working
EBS_freak replied to Kamiel's topic in Repairs and Technical
Is the footswitch a simply passive switch that controls a relay or does the pedal have any logic in it (sorry not familiar with the amp)? It may be the length of the cable has caused voltage drop and by memory, the states of the Fenders are controlled by voltage levels... and this setup may be screwing with it. -
The cleaner you can get each of the elements that make up the complete mix, the better the engineer can get it sounding. With Mr Bonamassa, looks like being a sound engineer and trying to deliver a good mix is futile.
-
The difference being that the bassists can still hear and the guitarists are eh? eh? eh? eh? what? eh? what you say? Can't put a price on tone.
-
Roasting is entirely appropriate if putting others health at risk under the facade of it being the only was of getting full sounding guitars and controlling dynamics - which is just not true. We all know the stories of guitarists running small rigs, often offstage, with fake cabs - there’s a reason for this. He may be a pro - but his actions are highly irresponsible and short sighted.
-
I don’t care what he does to his own ears - but to seemingly go out of his way to toast others ears too... well, the guy is clearly a tool.

https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic.php?id=22909 Yeah, just dandy Joe. https://www.facebook.com/JoeBonamassa/posts/ears-still-ringing-from-the-amp-show-saw-a-bunch-of-friends-though-even-a-couple/164303641317/ https://www.mylespaul.com/threads/joe-bonamassa-in-concert-unbiased-review.251371/ I dunno about you - but I have some very strong views about Joe's views.
-
I bet sound engineers hate him. "Did you go to that JB gig? Yeah, the sound was awful... what was the sound guy doing?" Answer - putting nothing through the PA.
-
Did you know that "jurassic nonsense" is an anagram of Joe Bonamassa?

Are you sure that your soldering is correct between the stereo sockets. Tip to tip, Ring to Ring, Sleeve to Sleeve? -
No worries Davo - glad that you could hear the benefits of a multiple driver setup. Just goes to show that you can get an immense amount of headroom and low end response without breaking the bank! Enjoy!

And this is why guitarists are always a nightmare when it comes to inears. Playing for themselves instead of the overall sound of the band. Bad for your hearing? In the fact that you can have a lower SPL? If JB has explored Klang and all the ambient options available, then I would be receptive of his wide, sweeping statements. In Ears have reduced the amount of people that have resulted in having chronic tinnitus... I'd say that's saving your ears. I find it interesting that all those that don't advocate the use of IEMs (typically the old school rockers) - are all the ones that are struggling with insufferable ringing ears. As for comments about the dynamics... the sounds engineers are in control of the dynamics that audience hear anyway, whether you are using IEMs or not. If your guitar rigs are overpowering the PA, then the balance of music that the audience here is greatly compromised anyway. Better to have a set of ears out front where the audience are to balance the mix. Fatter and fuller sound - he's saying a desk full of processing and a PA with full range reproduction can't produce a fatter and fuller sound? Err... try getting a fuller and fatter sound out of your kick drum without any processing and see how far you get. If you can't get a fatter and fuller sound, it's down to poor engineering or inadequate tools... not down to the concept of running a quieter stage with the PA doing the work. I think we can say that JB is a dinosaur who doesn't give a stinky poo about the health of his own, or other people's hearing. But hey, that's rock n roll.

I defo don't agree that latency doesn't really doesn't get noticed until around 20ms! Tolerances on IEMs usually top out at 10ms... some people are lower. I just don't understand why people would choose to add latency when a wireless unit is meant to be a cable replacement (with sub sub sub sub sub ms latency?)
-
The latency of the G75 is sub 1.5ms... so it's actually pretty much top of the tree in terms of latency out of all the digital wireless systems out there. I would say it's significantly better... or in other words, leaps and bounds better. Or to put it another way... the G75 has pretty much half the latency of the tour grade digital wireless systems (although alot of those are running encryption also).
-
Indeed - and one of the reasons it's lost one of the nice features (phantom power over XLR). I'm guessing there's some digital element going on with the tuner too - which will add to the power consumption somewhat.
-
I think the biggest unanswered question is... are they going to rework the Trump blimp?
-
When you see pedals like this, it's no wonder a lot of bands sound crap - when you want to hear the bass, it seems counter-intuitive to cut the bass... but that's usually the solution to the problem. Hard hitting lows? Look around 80-180. Leave 65 for your kick.

Function band pedal? Tuner. That's it. Go straight into the PA and let that take care of your volume. Tone shaping and a compressor on the desk will usually do a better job than pedals. If you have an amp on stage, keep the volume low and use it just for monitoring. If possible, ditch it all together and go IEMs.

Good to hear that the size is looking to be right... that’s one of the key aspects... portability! Already looking at making that aspect better with further weight reduction and making it easier to handle - but without any impact to the feel and feedback that the board gives. Again, it’s got to be right, no corners cut! For example, Nick has reworked some of the internals and shaved half a kg off the weight. Nick concurs that the electronic components are working well with a uniform, highly responsive feel across the board... so that’s a good result and certainly what we have been going for. It’s a carpet tile. The moulding of the top is expensive so we've got to get the board right before we think about pulling the trigger on that (approaching 4 figures for the moulding) - so the carpet will do for now until the board mechanics are finalised. Obviously, the cosmetics will be spot on like in the earlier pics - myself and Nick are very OCD about that element! Amps bubbling along... but in order to get the most out of the amp, got to finalise the board as there is some special sauce happening in the amp to specifically match up with the board. keep the feedback coming!

Sensing a theme in the classifieds at the moment...
EBS_freak replied to therealting's topic in Amps and Cabs
There's plenty of people using class D... it's always the same on forums, certain ideas, in this case, bashing class D and muttering words like "heft" and low and behold, stuff sticks. Take it with a pinch of salt - there's load of good... no - great class D amps that people will use for whatever reason.
