  1. To use a volume pedal as a expression pedal, you need an insert cable (otherwise known as Y cable with TS (vol pedal input), TS (vol pedal output), and TRS which then goes into your expression in on whatever pedal/device you want).
  2. I guess we got to bring it in at the right price - so, affordable, especially compared to the competition!
  3. OK... so behind the scenes, things are progressing nicely... Migrated from all the hand built prototypes and getting covered in sawdust... to a CNCed board. The fabulous @intime-nick is out tonight road testing cnc prototype #1 to see what he thinks of it. Obviously, this board is without the cosmetics and the moulded rubber pad and the like, but the construction is all looking good and all being well, the feedback is uniformly good across the board and highly responsive like the hand built prototypes. Already learned a bit about where we can make improvements but pretty stoked at how things are looking. Hopefully you can see that this board is completely usable and portable enough not to be a nightmare to move around... even great for stages that are a lot smaller than your stadium gigs! (which is the point - IEMs in pubs rock too!) Let us know what you think!
  4. Umm- both really. Separate power supplies will give you an isolated feed - but tend to be a bit clunky. A power brick can give you isolated supplies or it may not - some of the cheaper bricks are simply a daisy chain disguised in a nice looking box. It's usually a big marketing piece - if it says isolated outputs, you are ok, if it doesn't say anything about isolated outputs, then it's a daisy chain in a nice box.
  5. Some pedals are prone to noise if they aren't run from their isolated supply. In short, if you daisy chain and there's no noise, then jobs a goodun. If there is no noise, find the noisy pedal(s) and run that from it's own/isolated supply. There's plenty of touring artists running pedals off daisy chains.
  6. Not had any experience - I stopped buying cheaper IEMs as I found out I started filling a drawer with then and started giving them away to people. Not a great way of me hanging onto money! Anyway, the C10s review favourably it would seem with the inevitable split of people preferring one over the other. In reality, without A Bing them next door to each other, both will perform comparably in a gigging situation. If budget is an issue, go for the cheapest and put the money aside to work towards customs if you find IEMs are your thing.
  7. People looking for a nice set of UE900s may want to look at the HQ12s currently on offer at our favourite Chinese shop - https://m.aliexpress.com/item/32956683162.html?trace=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail&spider=y&productId=32956683162&productSubject=Yinyoo-HQ12-12BA-in-Ear-Earphone-Custom-Made-Balanced-Armature-Around-Ear-Earphone-Headset-Earbuds-With (that’s 12 BA per side in a universal for just over the price of a UE900 quad) Or if you want to get under 200, there’s a great deal on the 10 BA units too - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Yinyoo-HQ10-10BA-in-Ear-Earphone-Custom-Made-Balanced-Armature-Around-Ear-Earphone-Headset-Earbuds-With/32917746801.html
  8. What’s a small budget in pounds?
  9. See the post above. You are right, that’s the common way - but there are other ways to get a serviceable inears mix without a desk. Hope this helps!
  10. You can use them without putting anything through a PA (although that is what I would recommend). The easiest way of achieving this, is using something like a field recorder (think of those Zoom devices for recording gigs) - by plugging into those (and you don’t even have to press record) will enables you to monitor what the mics on those devices pickup. What this gives you is effectively a set of electronic ear plugs with a volume control on. Ok you have no ability to mix individual instruments - but it will give you a better reproduction of audio over a passive barrier such as an earplug that despite what marketing says, does mess with the frequencies. Something like a H6 is proper boss - as it enables you to have the ambient onboard mics, a stereo mix from a desk and also a “more me” function, again in stereo. I have put a few keys players onto those and they are superb.
  11. They are generic Chinese lights that are rebranded by every man and their dog... including Stagg it would seem (who stick a pretty hefty premium on them).
  12. https://www.gearnews.com/electro-harmonix-wins-copyright-piracy-case-against-mooer/ this was pretty break through!
  13. I can understand why chrome is falling out of favour as it’s a complete nightmare for the environment - but it’s about the designers accept chrome was yesteryear and adapt... not do that crappy fake chrome that you mention.
  14. You know what, this sounds familiar to the second batch of mic stands I bought. Will check out when I next get them out
  15. That’s because they aren’t much different. Single dynamic per side in a nice casing. Not much happening on the tuning front either - they are an entry level point to IEM with a big brand name on the casing. The level of isolation is down to the fit on the tip although the isolation figures that Shure state are a little err... optimistic!
  16. That’s quite ok, our experiences can all differ. What I will say however, is what I described is no different to gigging with earplugs in, except with the advantage of none of the muffling of frequencies that are associated with ear plugs... and having a volume control. Active earplugs if you will!
  17. They are good - having spoken to Rob in length about his building process, he's got it down and has experience outside of Lugs. He knows what he's doing. He's limited to off the shelf drivers but I know a few people that are happy with the results. I believe @intime-nick has a set of quad lugs and a set of UE6 and he, I believe, reckons they are comparable. So that's a pretty good indication.
  18. That's why you talk to people. And micing Everything is a bit of misconception... yes, it's best to mic everything if you want absolute control over your mix, but you can get a quite usable mix (one that I would take over no IEM mix) from a single ambient mic. Look through the various posts where the Zoom field recorders are mentioned for example.
  19. Connectivity is largely driven by the environment. If you are in a high RF environment, some units will fare better than others - this is mostly due to aerial types (and placement) and transmission power. You'd have to do real world tests to accurately compare these sort of aerial/short wave aerial systems.
  20. For extra background, Line 6 latest generation are 1.47ms. Kind of interesting that you could run two Line 6 wireless systems (as guitar to board, board to amp) and still get under what the majority of the competition are achieving!
  21. I believe that they co-exist without an issue. Put it like this, I run 10 channels of ULXD and EW500 simultaneously. For those interested in high density - ULXD with encryption I recall to be 2.9ms.
