A bite block is what you are looking for. It's a little polystyrene block that has little indents to keep your open mouth impression a fixed width whilst you have your impressions taken. Rule of thumb is like this - Closed if you are listening to hifi music (which isn't the case with ear plugs) Half open bite block impression - for general movement, maybe backing vocals. Full open bite block impression - lead vocalist that like to scream alot. It really angers me to see a lot of (big name even!) custom inear/ear plug manufacturers take impressions and post it all over instagram with closed mouth impressions. Whats even worse, is at a couple of shows that I do, I see manufacturers taking impressions whilst the recipient is having a full on chin wag. These impressions will just not cut it, result in a poor fit for the final product and just serve to the give the custom game a bad name.

IEM route may help you - especially if custom moulded - but you’ll need to think your setup and how you’ll route everything into your ears such that you can get a good mix of the band along side yourself. I may also recommend you getting a digital octave pitch shifter so that you get a copy of what you are playing with an octave up so your bass is audible in a more friendly frequency spectrum in your ears. Mix the octave up with your source signal in your ears only not out front. That will give you the intelligibility in your playing to hear what’s going on. Petes suggestion of ZS10s is a good one, also UE6s are a great custom IEM for us bass players. I do think isolation is key for you though - the more you can cut out and the lower volume you can play at, the less impact and pain associated with your tinnitus you will have. If you are looking over ear, EX29 is also a good choice - Paul Gilbert’s preferred headphone. Additionally, as you mention them, the bass response and crucially the headroom on The ACS dual drivers are pretty poor - they may be actually adding to the distortion - they run out of headroom quickly and distortion sets in. Additionally - are you sure that the balanced armatures aren’t damaged? Feel free to msg me or head over to the IEM thread if you need some pointers on how to make all this work.

Historically yes - but the XR and X32 have proven themselves to be as reliable as the competition. Remember that a lot of Behringers digital desk development has been done in tandem with Midas.

Not really - if I was going to suggest.a XR for IEM use, I’d say XR18 for the aux count. If you are looking to go that route, go for the XR18 straight off. If you want flexibility and want to run a stand-alone setup, then you can get away with the XR12. You can run your mainouts to the QSC and an aux to a FOH mixer, of an aux to your QSC and the main out to your foh mixer. The XR18 could do both jobs of the XR12 and foh mixer. You can either mute the channels (or turn the volumes down on the basses that are connected to the mixer) and have all your instruments plugged into the mixer. Or you could have one lead into a switch which would a b into two channels on the mixer. The reason I am a fan of digital mixers is because they tend to give a lot more flexibility than most pres - for example, you typicall get a 3 or 4 band eq, with adjustable freq point, q in addition to cut and boost. You get lpf and hpf. You get 31 band eqs so you can notch out troublesome frequencies... In addition to that, you then have highly tweakable compressors, even multiband compressors. Everything you state is possible... you have LR out for your main speakers, and then aux outs for backline, monitors or even IEMs. For an acoustic setup especially, I don’t know why you wouldn’t just go XR18. @stingrayPete1977 has just sacked off all his amps and external pres - I believe he puts his upright and elec bass into his xr16 and let that do everything.

@Frank Blank maybe consider something like a XR12 - you can dedicate a channel to each bass, each with individual gain and EQ and compression, overdrive etc... to build your core tone for each instrument... whatever you need. The amount of processing you get in that small box is just staggering, if you can’t make that work for you...

If Macca hadn't have used a Hofner, think what those groundbreaking Beatles recordings could have been. Come to think of it... wouldn't you be whizzed if you hired Macca to drop down some bass... and he turned up without a Hofner.

Yeah, it looks OK but talk about shoddy choice of wood. Clearly this thing was thrown together... could have done with the eye of Fodera to get some decent wood that isn't just driftwood.
