  1. Been following your cab thread. Looks pretty sweet. Interesting to see the 15 on top !
  2. Just finished up mixing and doing the video for the latest band promo video... We took a bit of a risk on this one... because we love the song - and to be fair, everybody else seems to also... but it's a song that I've never heard any other band do live. Always a tricky one when trying to figure out what will work on the promo front. The jury is out on this one... The whole ethos of this band was to do modern dance and pop songs but giving them that definitely live vibe. This definitely remains one of our faves to play live and always seems to get people on to the dancefloor when we kick off a set with it. What are your forgotten gems that your band plays, to get away from the normal GeFF (Generic Function Fodder)?
  3. Depends upon the gigs. I have a reputation in my band for wearing slag trousers... they are black - but certainly not of the type that would be worn by a waiter. Some of our gigs, we kinda dress like the scissor sisters... others we may wear black and accessorise with tat like scarfs and the like. The lead singers are usually outrageous enough so there's no mistaking who they are. I always say to my band, if you walk in the room and the guests don't immediately know that you're in the band, you've failed. Kinda helps that the singers are both quite brave on that front... bodycon dresses, rubber, feathers, wings... and that's just the male singer.
  4. Cheers dude, very kind of you to say. You’ve inspired me to start listening to some of my old recordings to see what I’ve got - not necessarily to do anything with, just something to listen back to for fun!
  5. Here's the equivalent from a Mackie DL32R with my band. Only posting it as recordings from desks came up in another discussion I was having in facebook with a friend - and found some out. Always loved having a bass workout over this tune! As you may be able to hear on this recording though, there a bit of an issue with the essess on the female vocal and a bit of bleed into the vocal mics. Never really done much with the recordings that I do make - but I remember it saved my bacon once. We did a gig where the client stated that we didn't play for the contracted duration... so I gave them a copy of the entire performance and summed up the timings of the entire performance for them, even subtracting the times in between songs. Turns out that we gave them an extra 8 minutes 17 seconds for free.
  6. If they can make it sell, all power to them. They seem to be doing OK...? I'd rather have the gear being produced and have the decision to or not buy it (hopefully for the company others will)... rather than no gear produced.
  7. OMG - please don't let this become a thing.
  8. Ah - you're talking about john hornby skewes!
  9. https://www.jhspedals.com/products/bass-pedals/colourbox/ A really cool little pedal to have. Some good vids on YT showing versatility with keys, vocals, gtr etc too...
  10. Forgot to mention - @police squad - congrats on the endorsement by the way. Make sure you get one of those colour boxes - they are a great channel strip pedal... sound great on bass.
  11. Ha - I had similar! Went into Sam Ash, struck up on a conversation... played some bass that appeared to really float his boat... and low and behold, talk about the gigs I was doing and onto endorsement talk. To be honest though, I didn't really dig the setup as much as the rig I was using so it would have been a complete enwhoresement... which is dead against my ethics. EDIT: Larry was (and I am sure still is) a top bloke to talk to. He seemed generally interested in me, what I was up to and the like... I'm sure I've got the obligatory pic with him somewhere on my computer. (With the Jack Bruce Warwick that had just been played at some Cream reunion or something... funnily, the one he let me play to test out the rigs...)
  12. Ah - supercardioid - quick q for you, do you have to really get your lips up to the mic grill? EDIT: and now I want a stringray.
  13. I get that - regularly record my own performances - was just surprised at the lack of cymbal bleed given the proximity!
  14. Phil - there's this vid here that's doing a similar thing - whilst Dan sorts out his vid!
  15. Nice - some good recordings considering the proximity of you all. I'm surprised that you managed to get such a clean set of vocals without cymbal bleeding into the mics - sounds great for a desk recording.
  16. https://www.musicradar.com/news/namm-2019-mooer-set-to-disrupt-multi-effects-market-with-astonishingly-feature-rich-ge300?fbclid=IwAR1XQ2G79_smhLPKaN75OGM9YHXbnNxC0rPP7EghbVAWw5AzIX7ZY4rOQFc OOOOOooooh.
  17. Sounds like you could do with a fret skim and dress - if the fret edges are sharp, chances are is that the frets have just been put in and thats it. To get the best out of your instrument, they'll need to be skimmed, crowned and dressed.
  18. Oh yes. Jebus, they were giving Fret King a run for their money with those!
  19. I dunno, when amp manufacturers have a go at building basses.... Yeah, those T-Basses stood the stand of time didn't they... Oh, and those Ashdown Lodestone things...
  20. They look like Vic Firth VFSIH1s. If you don't mind the visuals of them, they seem to offer (going from the specs) similar isolation to custom IEMs... but at a lesser price - because they can use bigger, cheaper dynamic drivers to deliver the sound.
  21. Nah, they'll just lack heft.
  22. That assuming the port for the windows version has been done as well as the pi
  23. Indeed. All ugly basses seem to burn the same way when you set them on fire.
  24. Can't vouch for Atom but the MS Surface Pro, 4Gb RAM i5 with the XR18 is a pretty good combo. I'd imagine even the Atom stuff would be fairly capable as you can run up the XR software on a Pi no hassle at all... and is responsive. The app appears to be very lightweight.
  25. Be careful - look at the QSC touchmix facebook groups. The sw isn't as stable as it could be (not that the audio fails - the interface generally locks). I dep with a band that uses a Touchmix 16 - and have to say it's pretty good - although it is running on the original firmware. I can see that if you want a physical interface on the unit, it is appealing.
