Your favourite (famous - e.g. mainstream) music videos
EBS_freak replied to EBS_freak's topic in General Discussion
I know its Coldplay - but linking back to the original thread, this is the video that sticks in my mind from them... Would have posted a YT link but it would appear that the powers that be have deleted a load of Coldplay videos. Some one argue thats a good thing....? -
Pretty much. Shame.
-
Yellow and Trouble are probably the mainstream ones that everybody tends to remember.
-
Agreed. What a bellend.

Stemming from a comment about Coldplay and their first two albums in response to @AndyTravis, I thought I would start a thread where you are invited to post your favourite music videos. You don't even have to like the music, you just have to have been suitably impressed by the video... I'll kick off with this - I thought this was absolutely brilliant. One continuous shot (which is always cool anyway (think Robert Downey Jr lip syncing Elton's I Want Love for a concrete example) - but the addition of loads of Kylies with every cycle around the street. Absolutely brilliant.
-
Ah good. You can join my unpopular gang... although I will only admit to liking half or so of the songs on the second album. Always thought their videos were quite good also...

Am I the only person that really rates Coldplay's first album? I think it all went south when they started doing the big production stadium stuff. So basically everything after the first album. (un)Funny story, I actually saw them on a (NME?) newcomer gig and thought at the time that this weedy, nervous chap could do something in the industry if he sorted himself out. I thought the tunes were pretty robust and commercial friendly despite never having heard them before... I never realised until about a year or two later that that guy kinda blossomed and the band is kinda doing alright for itself. I say "went south" but they seem to be doing a better job of selling out countless stadium tours than I am. They've probably had a higher class of drugs and fast women too.

OBBM makes great cables and I highly recommend his stuff. I've also used Designacable and Lynx Custom and been very satisfied with their work. If I'm making my own bulk cables, I'm like most custom cable makers, Vandamme cable with Neutrik connectors.

Heres my plugs - a bit of a rare beast on these shores. These are 64 Audio's plugs with the Apex filters... which I have to say, are blooming brilliant. Not a cheap option though! in the picture, these are total blocks... but I currently run them with the -15dB filter... which for me, is just perfect. I don't play in any particularly loud bands - and most of the time I'm on inears. These tend to come out for dep gigs that don't enable me to run inears... but I also have these in permanently at gigs just to kill the overall SPL. Discos and the like can take their toll!

You too can swap tinnitus for chronic ear infections!
-
Good stuff - so how are they comparing with the lugs so far? And wheres the pic? :p
-
I've always wondered about these... but given the ACS Live I have, I am concerned that they could cope with high SPLs where bass is involved. I'd still want to be able to hear myself without distortion. Also, I'm not sure they would sit in my ears that comfortably - the fact that universals keep popping out of my ears pushed me down the custom fit route.

It wont do the 600mA... but more to the point, how is that powering your aircraft carrier? Was it you that commissioned this? https://www.treehugger.com/gadgets/giant-a40-million-battery-for-the-uk.html

Have a look at Yankee power supplies.

Get yourself on inears!
-
Talking of inears from the drum show, here's a couple of photos from the guys that decided to jump in for some UE6s also!
-
Why weren’t you backstage canoodling with the groupies? Was going to ask you if your UE6s had landed - the drum show orders seemed to be landing with their owners this week.
-
Nope, I don't get them either. The fan fret thing seems to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The note weight across strings is inconsistent (you thought the Stingray had a weak G?!). The clearer than clearer B is a figment of people's imagination. Those pickguards slice your knuckles open if you dare slap (however, some people may say that's a positive thing). Apart from that, they're great, I guess. Each to their own though - I suspect there's people out there that don't get my choice of bass either!

Instead of a Nowsonic? An Ubiquiti AP.
-
Ah the good old Nowsonic router. If you must have the performance of the Nowsonic router, you could always buy one of these... https://www.aliexpress.com/item/TOTOLINK-A3002RU-AC1200-Wireless-Dual-Band-Gigabit-Router/32701126467.html Notice anything similar between the Nowsonic and the Totolink? Alas, it's just a cheapo Aliexpress router dressed up in a nice rack case. If it works, it works... but not really worth the expense imho. Here's the guts, Nowsonic on the left, Totolink on the right. As an aside, you should never rack mount a rf device in a rack case - it actually decreases performance!

If the simple approach is what you are going for, then you still have lots of options. The Twonotes is certainly one, there’s stuff from GK, Hartke, EBS, Aguilar, Lehle, Radial etc etc... and you could always look at channel strips. What you are suggesting about monitor is also doable. Send everything to the PA, let that do the front of house duties and have your frfr just for monitoring purposes. I wouldn’t suggest using a frfr like this if it’s the only way you are getting your bass out front as you are likely to get loads of mixing issues.
-
MB200 as a preamp, yes, just use the line out or the direct out into your chosen speaker cab. You won’t have any speaker emulation - but some people actually prefer that with bass. I for one! As for the Headrush 112, I have no experience. It is primarily designed for the guitar market so it may not have enough headroom in the lows - but I’m just speculating. Going with a PA speaker is always a good shout though - as they are designed for multi use, whether it be FRFR cabs or Djs pumping out loads of bass. Have a look at some of the tried and tested examples above but I’m guessing you are ideally looking for something around the 300 pound mark?

Bored of waiting ? - I just logged on today for the first time in a while. Maybe I coulda helped out...

The top pic seems to be a polyester coat so is sitting on the surface of the wood, so should (with effort) be able to be taken back to the wood no problem. Once stripped, it can be stained. If you want the wood stringers to be a specific colour, then you can artificially stain those also. Any decent poly finisher will be able to do this at a cost, I dunno, give the guys at bow finishing a shout - https://www.bowfinishing.co.uk/ Here's a refin they did as an example - Before- After - As you can see, no trace of brown, and they went from a darker colour to lighter.
