Listening to UE Live tomorrow... (taking mate for a IEM geek day out)... all being well. Shall report back. Been interested in hearing this piece for a while. I'm kinda hoping that I don't prefer it to the 64 I just splashed out on... cos that would be annoying! 😛 I'm actually more interested in listening to the dual dynamic (UE6) - as I've got some drummer friends that are interested in customs but on a more limited budget... so this could be a good option for hard hitting bass yet a bit of headroom.

Gigs where your gear gets covered in baby oil after the fireman stripper shakes his oil covered wang in the direction of the stage is not cool in my book.

Not really - becuase the two holes still get worn as the strap is taken on and off. From experience, as I used to use Comfort Strapps for some time, the wear is not as quick as it may be on a traditional strap... but they do stretch and whilst the risk of a bass dropping off the strap is reduced, the risk is definitely still there on older, worn straps.

The Helix is very capable... especially if you are into effects... and Line6 are adding to it all the time for bass players. So they obviously have clocked there's a market for it. I'm similar though - I use a Kemper and use probably about 5% of it's capability. I use two profiles - both of channels strips. The channel strips I am modelling are each the price of the Kemper itself... so I guess I'm still up in terms of outlay... but with the added fx and foot controller etc.

I concur. Probably a lot more robust than most mic stands too.

When you start adding up the cost of the replacement cables, the cost of ownership of ACS seems to be pretty significant! Where was your cable failing? The cable or the connector that goes inside the earpiece? I quite like Bax cable for its thinness - although it does have a tendency to like to tangle itself a little!

If its any consolation, one the way back from my gig last night, I was talking a guitarist mate (who was actually covering bass duties for me on another gig that I usually do)... and his ACS cables failed last night also. So at least you are in good company. The failure rate of ACS just seems far too high to be right doesn't it?

On a surprise gig tonight with the 64 plugs. Have to say, they are still not flat, flat but I prefer them to the usual filter.

Latency is the biggest concern

Kinda but not really. What it does is take the output from a desk (typically USB) audio interface and using some software on a Mac, then sends audio to individuals iPhones over WiFi. The iPhones enable you to do your own custom mix of the channels (level and pan) and that is what is sent from the Mac to your iPhone. Of course the big worry for this system is the cumulative latency... which from reports is looking at about 9ms. Which is pretty poor - and I believe on highly optimised systems. I was on the beta program and lost interest pretty soon as even with a Dante connection, I was getting pretty high latency figures. Certainly higher than I’d entertain using. 100 dollar a connection to the Mac too. So quite a cheap way of implementing wireless - but not if it’s not actually of low enough latency. I’m interested because I’m wondering if people will find the latency figures acceptable. I hope it’s not another avenue to the thinking of, “I tried inears and it was pants”.

So lets get the most important issue out of the way first. A Yurt is not a tent. (It is really, but we can't call it that). It's a take on marquee... but marquees are awfully common darling, especially for a wedding (so we can't call it that later. No, a Yurt is a way of elevating the fact that we are all sheltering from the UK weather in a tent of foreign origin... but it's Turkish, not Chinese... cos Chinese is cheap tat, naturally. Now that's out the way... Yes - you can get bogged down in profile/setting overload... I find that it's best to dial something in, live with it for a bit and then go off and do something more interesting... and revisit regularly with fresh ears. Ears tire. Same as when mixing tracks. If you are running your FRFR at any sort of volume, they will tire more quickly. The danger with modelling, is that you can have tweakability anxiety. For some people, the less buttons and settings to mess with, the better. For some, the ability to tweak to the nth degree is a God send. Same still applies, little and often until you get to where you want your tone to be. I'm glad you've seen the FRFR setup as a bass rig though. That's one of the first challenges. It doesn't look like a bass rig, right? So in a lot of people's minds, it's not a bass rig. And you are probably right - all it is, is a load of processing, an amp and a speaker. The processing however, is nothing like modelling and DSP of yesteryear that people seem to remember - we are now in an age where code is king and the result of that silicon based code is very pleasing on the ear. It's just a modern take on a rig that is now about 70 years old in it's concept. The interesting bit for you now though, is price for price, you're going to start getting a lot more from a PA setup than a traditional bass setup. I am waiting in anticipation for your opinions after using it out in the wild... Just think, you could let your PA do all the work and ditch the backline completely... or if you aren't into inears, you could use a wedge as a mean sounding monitor but have the added bonus of getting vocals and everything else you'd want to hear through it to. Lets face it, do you know anybody who puts PA foldback through their bass rig? Anyway, good and interesting update to read!

I don't know if anybody is as weird as me - but I like checking out autonomous sensory meridian response and hyper realistic 3d/binaural stuff - pretty cool stuff when using IEMs. I don't think I've ever mentioned it on this thread before. But find somewhere quiet, maybe even do it with your eyes closed or in a dark room. It will blow your mind, especially on good IEMs. Let me know what you think! I love this sort of stuff. Yeah, bet you can't guess what I've been doing this morning! 😛

These are 64's Apex filters. You can get -15dB, -20dB and the solid (which is the orange which is in the picture). I'll be using -15dB. I'm the same as you, I never seem to get on with plugs... but thought I would give these a go to see how they work for me. I won't get to use them on a gig for a while so dont know what they'll be like using them onstage as I'll be using IEMs... I do use earplugs after coming off stage though. I’ve uploaded a better picture for seeing the filters. As I say these are solid. The other filters I have, have little holes that dictate the level of attenuation.

I haven't spent much time with them yet and I've got to get used to the sound of them - but as far as I remember, theres defo a bit extra over the universals... but that's no surprise due to the custom fit, which I think always brings a fair bit extra to the party. The ACS thing is so annoying- because the Live concept is so so good. Just badly executed in my opinion But no, defo no swapsies on the cards! When you're out in Florda, call into see Jerry - they will sort you out. Remember, just because I've had 64 doesn't mean anything. It's all personal preference. This time around I preferred these model. Last time, I preferred JH. Would I have the JH again? Yes!

@intime-nick - it's all very addictive stuff. I would not want to do a gig any other way now. I know that they are perceived as very expensive headphones... but the performance of some of these IEMs... they are simply staggering. The lows on these 64s... I'm sure if I wasn't careful, they would be way, way, way too much. And when I look at my ACS where I started compared to where I am at now... well, there's just no comparison. I've been lucky to try quite a fair few IEMs in my time now, especially with all the tradeshows I do... and I just don't know why people wouldn;t go this route. It's just that to some people, dropping a shed load of cash on "headphones" just isn't as satisfying as buying some wedges. Personally I prefer not having to carry the wedges and having a superior monitor mix. But hey, thats just me! 😛

Yeah - I think they shrank their colour choices down when they moved from moulding to 3d printing. Funnily enough, my Roxannes were originally going to be that colour scheme before I plumped for the CF option.

That's what I thought when I opened the box. The chrome logos are a really good upgrade from 64 - they look class. I decided I wanted to keep them fairly simple... and agonised over going with either black or white caps (to obv match the bass). I'm glad I went black now that I've seen them in the flesh. Proper classy. I like the new cables too - they apparently don't go green... so thought I would give them a go to keep everything looking a bit less heavy. I'm going to see how I get on with them... but may go Bax down the line for the super thin stuff (as found on the new UE monitors as standard) but keen to see how the stock cables perform. (Not that I'm heavy on cables - unless we are talking about ACS cables).
