my turn!
True! I keep telling her-indoors "If you build it, they will come"... Worst case scenario I won't have to buy a drum kit for the kids if/when the time comes!!!
Funny you should say that... I know of a frustrated guitarist... he ended up getting his kids to learn how to play bass and drums. He now has band... visually it looks a bit off... but he has a band he can gig with regularly!
Could be worse. You could be me, converting this drum kit for some mythical tame drummer I'm yet to recruit...
Ha! this is true. At least you can convince yourself its some sort of worthwhile techy project to get your teeth into!

This makes me laugh this talk of drum gear - why is it as a bass player that doesn't play drums, I'm the owner of a full set of drum mics, a full set of percussion mics, drum screens, a set of triggers... Hell, I have more vocal mics than the lead singers in the band too... And the guitarist has also taken to using my amp too... Go figure. Hashtag mug.

Just caught up with a mate of mine so that he could show me his latest acquisition. These are a pair of UE900s - as mentioned numerous times in the thread - that have been sent off to be reshelled. Having seen a great amount of inears up close, these look great. Incidentally, they have retained the mmcx connectors, meaning that the existing cable from the UE900s can be used (keeps costs down too). Now, where else do you get a set of custom quads for circa £360? (These are a bit more cos of the coloured canals and the custom artwork - but still under £400 I believe).
Many thanks EBS_freak. Parts ordered.
No problem!

If the pot is large - it acts as a heat sink... so removing blobs of solder can be a lot more problematic than you imagine. Additionally, the longer you keep the heat on pot, the more likely you are to damage the pot. Tricksy! The worst was when I was trying to unsolder some ancient solder from a JD pickup. That's like the world's biggest heatsink known to man. At least the likelihood of damage there was greatly reduced in that case.
I have acquired a couple of sets of Shure PSM 700 IEMs via fleabay but they have no rack mounting hardware. I have sourced some rack ears but have no idea where to go for the fly leads and face grommets for the aerials. Can anyone please direct me to a supplier? Thanks.
Google the following - "bnc 50 ohm cable" "bnc 50 ohm bulkhead connector" Make sure you get the right gender ends! PS I assume the frequencies they are operating on are legal...
-
They should be standard bnc connectors I think, every other one is.
They are. Remember cables need to be 50 Ohm.

This may be of use - http://www.thetubest...com/Gain-Factor Although for bass amps (or should I say for lower frequencies as opposed to "bass amps"), I think the nuances are not so great as on a guitar amp (higher frequencies).
Typo for 12AX7?
Yes. Hit the y under the 7! Good spot.

Mullard 12AXY - low noise floor, smooth drive... although I quite like a 12AT7 - for less gain.

You normally get BNC connector extension cables such that the antenna can be mounted to the front of the rack, either as part of the rack ears themselves, or a separate panel with bnc holes punched in order to mount the antennae. Alternatively, the manufacturer may assume that if you are rack mounting, you are using a distro system. Are the aerials fixed in your setup? What is your system?

Right, I have supercharged the rest of my PA with Dante... I'll write up some text soon about the most crazy mobile monitoring solution!
-
Dood! What are you doing? A refin and then you put it down on the gravelly ground?! Looks bloomin' ace though.
-
Did you order on a credit card? Is this something you could take up with your credit card company? Companies tend to be a lot more attentive when the credit card companies come knocking.
-
Why not change the plugs for powercon connectors and go for a complete powercon solution?
-
It's because you are either in the powercon pro camp or not. Why specifically do you want to mix IEC with powercon? Theres no real reason why they wouldn't be possible... but the call would be very low.
At a venue where I've gigged regularly for years there's another regular band who are good enough that I go and see them on my "evening off" if they're playing. Their drummer has a similarly large & complex kit but he actually uses every bit of it, and in a tasteful sort of way. I mention him because he always gets to the pub a full hour before the others, so that he can spend the extra time setting up his kit and then mic'ing it up as if he is playing Glastonbury ... kick drums, overheads, clip-ons for every tom, the whole works. In fairness he sounds fantastic, but it's an awful lot of extra faffing for - I would have thought - a pretty limited benefit.
Somebody that takes pride in their work. It's true - it does take a lot of work but can make a massive difference. Micing up the kit is defo one where you have to be realistic in what additional benefit it brings to the gig... but hey, alot of people like the gear aspect of playing... and if they thing it makes them sound better and as a result, makes them play better, than yeah, all power to them. (As long as they aren't compromising the mix out front!)
Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any pedals that emulate what the waves rbass plugin does. I love it and use it on all my bass recordings. here's a link if your not familiar with the plugin https://www.waves.co...enaissance-bass Cheers Matt
Not used it - but it reads like an Aphex Aural exicter... the optical big bottom is what I suspect you are interested in. http://www.aphex.com/products/exciter Pedal wise, I dont think they make it anymore so you'd have to look in the normal places... but I think you would want the 1402 bass xciter pedal.
The best sound I've ever heard in pubs have always been from bands with smaller kits.
Agreed. Problem is getting the drummer to agree to play a small kit. My band, the drummer has a number of kits and a - knows how to play at different volumes b - bring the right kit to the right gig... Conversely, a mates band - just looking at a picture of the drummers kit now, turns up to every gig with 2 up 2 down, rack and more cymbals than I care to mention, usually in stacks. Completely inappropriate for the indie tracks that they play.... but "its my tone, it brings something different, I couldn't play properly behind a small kit" Oh yeah, and he has a double bass drum pedal... that he tends to use for every song. I wouldn't have him in my band... I keep saying, mic for clarity, not for volume. Properly miced shells send infinitely better than a purely acoustic kit... unless its overpowering everything else and leading to shed loads of cymbal bleed through the vocal mics.
Late to the party, I am amused by the audience/latency discussion ;-)
Be amused all your like - try recording with with high latency figures to see how you get on and tell me that's it's not something to be concerned about. Also - playing with high latency on stage and high latency with IEMs are slightly different... with IEMs I guarantee that the latency direct into your ears will concern you greatly, this is why the 10ms ceiling is taken seriously by the sound engineering world. If you have the choice of keeping latency low... why wouldn't you? It certainly reads like that you are old school... and certainly anything Nady is anything but high fidelity. Any long cable runs of the magnitude that you are talking, on modern rigs, are certainly going to be over digital runs... but anyway, back to the discussion.
When you say a wired solution what do you mean? We found it difficult to stay in time during breaks in the song when samples were playing etc.
Instead of using a wireless system, use a headphone amp with a physical cable that plugs directly into your mixer's aux send.
