I'm taking this a possible step further, leave it with me as I have been working on an idea for the last few months and this thread has had me thinking I may return to it. I've found a few things online today that have my interest!
PM me with your ideas, lets start pooling. I may be able to accelerate some of your thinkings.

https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_e_bass_gigbag_premium.htm?ref=search_prv_3 This may be the ticket. I've got one - but can't remember for the life of me if the pocket is padded or not. But can get some dimensions for you later to see if the Aggie would fit in there. -
I'll come back to the rest of the post later as I must dash, but I wanted to ask if you have tried the 5 driver system as well as the T1? Also intrigued about the distortion. I'm looking online for other reviews with the issue. Would you know where would be a good place to find feedback regarding the Live! system?
I haven't tried the 5 driver system - but my gut feeling is that going with the single driver and doubling up the mids and the tops will leave you will the same problems as the T1 - the lower driver on its own just doesn't given you the support in the bottom end. I've even tried a multi band compressor on the output from my desk before it gets sent to the ears but even with trying to control live bass, it's just not in the same camp as a dual low. My dual low copes way better than the T1 and of course the JHs are a different ballgame all together - akin to what you are used to with your 64s. Just to clarify, there's two distortion problems - one with the mics when the environment in which you are performing is too loud for the mics. Second, where the drivers can't cope with the bass. Review wise, ACS is a funny one as they have pretty much sewn up the market in the UK as they are undoubtably the easiest and quickest way of getting customs in the UK. Having a presence at John Henry's has pretty much got their foot in the door with every sound tech and artist that passes through. Don't get me wrong, they are good - but I think in terms of the actual inears, they are behind the curve. If you want ear protection though, ACS are amongst the best, no doubt. I would say the majority of ACS users - and especially those that are singing their praises - have no other benchmark. Yes, compared to a standard off the shelf monitors, ACS will seem way and above what they are used to. If you speak to guys that have had a whole host of monitors, see how many will mention ACS... I can tell you that it won't be many. The Live system is a fairly big selling point for them, I think it's only ACS and Sensaphonics (and it should come as no surprise that those companies have links from way back) who currently offer such a system commercially.

Not my cuppa tea - but each to their own! -
Goblin - are you running wired or not? The reason why I ask is that I was looking into the ambient thing quite heavily and investigated the use of a stereo lav mic clipped to the back of my collar. The idea is the cables would be joined on a small box with a belt clip would then take the jacks from a stereo jack and join them to a socket that would run a thin multicore to a small mixer. I was toying with the idea of including another socket for a cable to the bass also. At the end of the day, most things are possible if you can find the appropriate multicore cable. May be worth an investigation... I never got around to realising the design but if dood and goblin are up for it, I'm up for a BC collaboration project! It would certainly be cheaper than the ACS solution - and probably more performant... but obviously a bit more clunky to get wireless as the ambient pack is what is replacing the mixer (and a damm expensive alternative it is too!) EDIT: just went through my notes and found the mic that I was going to build the solution around - Sony ECMCS3 - Don't know much about the mic, it was in the frame mostly due to its hard L/R separation and easy of clipping it to the back/front of my collar. The case would be like this - http://cpc.farnell.c...nectors-AV18089 (Taking inspiration from Fischer!) Belt clip would be screwed into the side and the relevant D chassis neutriks mounted top and bottom (the top would be a custom for the two mini jacks (three if you want to include bass) - for the bottom multicore I was thinking 5 pin midi or 7 pin midi depending whether you wanted to include the bass - and whether you wanted to run balanced. Dood - you could route it so your headphone output goes to your Fischer stick so you still have you volume control on that available to you... I nearly found the right mixer too - Denon Professional DN-306X (I wanted something rack mountable so there wouldn't be cables and little mixers everywhere) - but it doesn't have a headphone out (or crucially stereo!) and didn't want another headphone amp to worry about - Dood - you wouldn't have the problem with your Fischer stick - thats got the amp in it hasn't it? So you would just take the XLRs out and let the Fischer do the rest. What you think?

Bass straight into the PA - no DI - Behringer X18

Indeed - when you go inears, you find out that there is no tweaking... as there is no volume wars and less ear fatigue that is egging you on to turn around and mess with your amp. -
As seen here: https://www.acscusto...ors/live-series Would like to hear from users of the system please! Reviews and any thoughts. That would also include users of the T1, T2 and T3 Live! Systems too.
You probably know that I have this system with the T1s. It's really good - however, I still think that the actual inears are somewhat lacking for bass players. Their ethos is not to include the double low... and in reality, as a bass player, we really need the headroom in that department. So I have to say, I always find my ACS a little disappointing in that department. As for the microphones - again, good - as long as you are not in a loud band. Even with the pad engaged on the ambient pack, if the SPL in your environment is too loud, the inears will massively distort. I think the application where this product will really shine is as a singer on the theatre stage, say the West End. I would imagine it would be absolute killer for that. Not too loud surroundings, a clean input from the desk - and of course, a beautiful ambient surrounding. I know you are really into the ambient thing... but I think you will be very, very disappointed, especially coming from the A8s you currently sport. I was actually wondering if I could get my ACS respelled with mic gubbins - but the problem of the mic distorting would still be there I fear. I'm sure I could work the pin outs on the ambient pack and use some beefier mics you know...
If the bass is good and quiet (no hums or RF noise) then go for it
I'm not sure why that would make a difference? Hums and RF is going to be present in a backline, just like it would a PA? -
Hey Russ, indeed the PA is fine, there are Mackie 18in subs and JBL PRX tops, which have two 15s and a tweeter each. Monitoring-wise I'm on in-ears (UE900s recommended by your good self) so no worries there..... Cheers dude.
In which case, go for it. You'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. -
Bass straight into the PA - no DI - Behringer X18
EBS_freak replied to LewisK1975's topic in General Discussion
It all depends... mostly on what speakers you are using with your PA. Have they got the guts to support everything you are throwing at it? But yes, it's all doable but you should look at your monitoring solution... don't rely on hearing everything you need to from the reflection from the front of house. I'll ditch the backline wherever I can... and the band sounds better out front for it. -

SOLD! Fender Protube Twin
EBS_freak replied to EBS_freak's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
This is a mega deal for a guitar player. The Fender Twin is iconic and at this price complete with flight case should not have lasted this amount of time. Have you tried a forum like The Fretboard?
Yup - not much interest on the Fretboard either! It would seem nobody loves a Twin at the moment! -
Colour me interested. Looking to hear about the results.

My new wireless Guitar System from Xvive
EBS_freak replied to MacDaddy's topic in Accessories and Misc
The folks at Xvive asked for a video of the U2 not working properly. Fortunately this very thing was available from a Junkyard Dogs gig. I sent it to them, so watch this space.
Good that you managed to get it on video - things like this are usually impossible to capture! -
Wooks - you may find these interesting... http://www.accugroovellc.com/venti From the guys that bought you the 4/8 ohm cab 20 Hz - 20 kHz (±0.5 dB)
-
I'm pretty sure that has never been mentioned, so yeah, cool.
-
Lots of parallel surfaces. Check. You pretty much nailed it there - but lets not forget the hollow stage! Come to think of it, the support band may have sounded bigger due to the amount of reflections everywhere. Wooks- was the separation between instruments as distinct for both bands?
-
Cool venue - although the speaker alignment on the right could do with some work 😜 Without being there, I wouldn't want to comment too much, but with a decent PA, there's no reason why you couldn't make the second band sound as authoritative as the first. There's less open mics on stage for starters, so you'd get an increase in your headroom before feedback. I'm guessing you would have heard a lot of bleed from the kit in this size venue and situation - especially from the cymbals and snare. I wouldn't like to say for sure (equipment limiting) but there shouldn't have been any reason why the sound guy couldn't have made those without backline sound as big as the the guys with. At the end of the day, it's only about shifting air... Aha - fellow Kemper user - you do realise that you can use the monitor out without any modelling (so you get the sound of your profile and then the sound of the cab is provided by the cab itself) and send your main out to FOH - and that would have the cab emulation on it...? Again, if you want to hear the same as front of house as you can (that's assuming no tweaking of your sound at the desk... which is bound to happen anyway), you are right to look at FRFR.
-
I concur. Were there any drums?
-
I'm guessing this was at a fairly small venue and you were standing close to the stage? If you think about a stadium gig (and yes, I do realise I am probably going the polar opposite there), the fact whether there is backline or not, is irrelevant as you won't hear it over the FOH PA anyway. In a small venue, you aren't going to get any bleed from the backline if there isn't any... but I would also wager there is no front fills meaning that the only sound you are hearing are from the L and R FOH which may be too far away from your (and off axis ) for you to get the full benefit of what they are doing. If there were subs and front fill in front of you, there's no reason why these guys (sorry, I'm not aware of your work) should be ripping your face out with the PA. It seriously sounds like the venue isn't best suited to that band - at the moment. No smaller venue bothers with front fill due to the amount of bleed from the stage... and it's why sometimes the vocals in small venues sound a bit lacking. I believe as the trend towards modelling gains momentum, more venues will be looking at installing front fill speakers (if they care, that is). Just a quick question though Wooks - are you looking at introducing some colour in to your tone (maybe a speaker emulation) - as you may find a FRFR solution a bit lacking if you are used to hearing the colourisation you get from traditional speakers and cabs?
-
Should probably clarify I mean standard boxes vs Bose line array (or any other line array in that price range really). My experience has shown me that array systems are pretty disappointing in smaller venues. K-Array seem the best - and are certainly way ahead of the competition - however, the dispersion is still narrow, so for most applications, unless you are playing some very large venues, standard boxes will serve you better than an array.
