Aw no! I feel like I've scuppered the build by posting the woojer stuff. I was looking forward to this one immensely too! (I was planning on building something depending upon how you got on with yours!)
Yeah... but how amazing does the octave track!?
It was rhetorical. I've never played through anything that tracks as good!
The mug shot drawing is a bit cheesy TBH, interesting bit of kit though.
Thats my fave bit!
you just dont need all the features for live bass.
Yeah... but how amazing does the octave track!?

Are you looking for a flight case or say a wooden type enclosure?
-
You would still need multidrivers for your ears. This goes you feel not note definition.

It's all getting a bit MacGyver in these parts! :-p

I'll see your LED fret markers and I'll raise you....

Too much. The flaw will be the power consumption of those LEDs and switching circuit. That thing will spend more time on charge than on action. It's done it's job though - gone viral and got the luthier a load of followers so he can get people seeing his other work. -
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Do you know how the input and output work? Is there an input for yout device and an output for your IEM?
Correct!

I've been wondering whether to post this or not... but I have decided it's too cool not too. Some guys who actually follow my crap talking across this site (and maybe others) will have probably seem me mention the Subpac - basically a body worn subwoofer. There's a couple of problems with it - it's only available as a big vest (which will make you look a bit daft on stage) or as a chair back. It's also pretty darn expensive. So, I've been kind of looking at different options... and also been working on developing my own... however, I stopped pursuing that idea as I found out that some guys were already working on something very, very similar to what I was working on. Basically, what I was working on, quickly crossed paths with haptic feedback devices... so I decided to actually have a bigger look at who was using the components that I was looking at... and see what was going on in the market there. Anyway, the thing I want to share with you is the Woojer devices... Check this out. So what's great about this, is that Woojer has developed a strap, in addition to the standard vest. It kinda looks portable enough to wear under stagewear without looking ridiculous. I notice in the videos that people wear the strap either on the upper part or lower part of the torso... so certainly, it would be a lot less conspicuous that the vest option. The funny thing is, I'm not entirely sure that these guys have clocked onto how great their product could be in the IEM sector. So, heres the rub... I'm kind of sold on it - but don't tend to recommend stuff to people without having first hand knowledge of it. I *think* this could be really good... and I think that this is the answer to those people who feel that they lose the connection of a load of air moving on stage. In reality, I don't know... but it look promising. But... check this out (and I promise I am not being paid to advertise or anything) - http://www.woojer.com/store/ - it's introductory price with postage puts it circa £100. Now, it's kinda cheap enough for those serious about IEM to give it a whirl... as when the price goes up to full retail after the initial introductory price, £200 is a bit steep on a whim with no reviews to back it up. I've bought one... but for those that are kinda sold on the idea too, I've posted this so you have the opportunity to get in on the cheaper price. Of course, when I get it when they are shipped, I'll give it my full appraisal.
Exactly my plan. I've actually a super brilliant idea for a gadget that I think would be of interest to a lot of people not being able to shell out on such a system but also have added flexibility that the ACS Live system doesn't have. (That's not saying that the ACS lacks anything of course!)
Does it involve mic stands? Does it involve clip on mics? Explored that avenue before...

In fact, thinking about this, you could fashion your own with a small mixer and something like a Palmer PDI09 (enables you to take a balanced feed from a speaker feed).
-
Hmmm, I actually like that, as it would provide a relatively cheap and uncomplicated way to get into IEM... but I'd like an aux input that you could mix with the wedge input too. Pretty much everywhere I play I could select one of the wedges (which one it'll depend on which mix I like best, but probably usually the singer's one), and then use the headphone output of my OmniCabSim into the SoundTap, mixing it with the wedge mix to my liking. It would be a wired system, which is not ideal, but it would be simple, something that even I can understand... and I don't need to depend on other people or begging for mixer aux outputs etc
You just need a sub mixer to add the "more me" functionality... they've missed a trick with that one.
-
ACS Live systen on the cheap! What you have is half way towards a full inear mix with ambient sounds mixed in. Now you have the ambient mix sorted, you'll be hankering to get the rest of it down.
. . . . and then there's me, trying to sound like Duck Dunn with the latest and best gear available.
You're missing the pipe.
A cheap nasty bass didn't seem to hold Macca back did it? Possibly because he's a musician rather than a gear head
Paul McCartney - His guitars aren't too shabby though... tours with a LH 1960 Les Paul burst, owns a 1957 Gold top, early 50s LH Strat. Elvis' bass players upright. I think that when you have the amount of money that Macca has and you can afford it all anyway... gear is of little importance. You could argue that a lot of the stuff that made him famous and sold the records was the techniques and equipment in the studio... so whilst it may be fair to say he's not a gear head... he has certainly used a lot of gear throughout his career.

I think we have all got it wrong. That amp is strap mountable - minimises the signal loss from bass to amp. Then there's a long trailing cable going across stage to the speaker cab... and of course, the one that goes to plug socket. It's groundbreaking stuff. Seriously though... If the Elf was cheap enough, I'd consider getting one for the home or little acoustic get togethers... maybe this is the taster before the big guns come out. If you consider this as a starting point, going up against the likes of say, something like the D200... with the vision on going onto something more akin to the GB Shuttles... then maybe they are onto something.

Not stylish... but in keeping with the look of the last batch of Trace Elliot I guess. They're probably dipping their toes in - no point in a massive rebrand, update in look and feel if there's less than a luke warm reception! I'm with you on the amp - I must admit, I had a quick snoop around aliexpress.
-
I can see the acoustic pre being popular though...
