1.
Regarding our bands recent issues with the lead singer not liking singing with IEMs. I followed all of your advices here and I got some advice elsewhere. What made the difference was 1. Using a wired solution instead of wireless. So this brings us to a new issue. The big problem was apparently delay that created some kind of occlusion effect that made his vocal feel distant and vague. But how do we reduce this latency with wireless? He would hate to have a cable running behind his feet all the time. The latency troubled setup is still : A&H qu 16 digital mixer console Sennheiser ew 300 g2 wireless The wired solution is just straight from mixer aux into headphones. Yes, the aux out can actually drive a pair of IEMs!
I can 100% guarantee the wireless latency aspect is not the problem. The latency on analogue wireless is negligible so I can assure you it's nothing to do with the wireless system you mention - latency on that ew300 runs at about one tenth of a millisecond. Nobody's brain is that sensitive to pick up on that sort of latency. As mentioned in the thread numerous times, latency is the reason that digital inears (at least the wireless transmission aspect of it) is not common place. Out of interest, was the desk the same with the wired setup? Did you literally swap the wireless out for wired on exactly the same setup at the same time and place? Are you running the gain too hot into the ew300? If you slam the front end, it will compress heavily and not sound great - but the screen on the unit should be illuminating red to tell you this. If you gain structure is wrong, it will sound pretty awful. I can understand it more if you were going through a load of fx which introduces latency along the line. What about the singer's mic? Is that wireless - and more importantly, is it digital? If so, what is it? I've used a qu 24 with ew300s and psm200s and psm900s. I can guarantee it's not the wireless (assuming that there is nothing wrong with your unit). In fact, I've used ew300s g2 with behringer units and mackie digital units also - again, zero problems. I don't think that it's unusual that a set of IEMs can be driven off an aux - the fischer passive solutions rely on you having a large output on the aux for you to then effectively cut using a pot on a passive belt pack. The downside if the that the impedance matching is not great - if you've bought a set of decent inears, why wouldn't you want to get the best out of them?
 2. Ok what I would do, is get something like this - https://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_hpa_in_ear.htm If you are not going through the desk, plug the DI out of your 350 into one side of the in ear amp. Have the other side receiving a monitor mix out of your desk (you may have to split and share a mix with somebody else in your band if you haven't got your own aux available. If you run your headphone amp in mono, you'll have a "more me" feature - which means you'll be able to use the pan pot to adjust the split between your bass and the monitor mix e.g.60%bass, 40%monitor mix. By adjusting the pan between band feed and bass feed and then setting the master volume to taste, you should be able to hear yourself a lot louder. Hope this gets you somewhere! If you are going to put your bass into the desk, obviously you would have to take an aux off the desk... granted you only have two so there would have to be a compromise to be drawn up between the band as to what the monitor feed sounds like. You may want to try this with a decent set of headphones before you go too much further. Don't make the mistake of just using some iPhone headphones... you something decent so you get some headroom and a fighting chance of getting something that can handle bass.
 3.
to be fair the keys player and drummer are using them now. i still have the keys coming over from his usual backline monitor but have to admit last gig, bass sound hell aside, not once did I need to signal turn up or down to him. however...i just dont think our pa is up to putting whole band through at drummer volume though. plus no sound man means my bass tone is the least of my worries. however..............IEM for me plus my backline ....hmmmmm........just use em for these venues......hmmmmm....... need to try before i buy i think. maybe this weekends wedding gig will be enough to send me over the edge........just in case it does.....what do i need to just hook me up whilst still using my rig? just out of interest of course....
From here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/291361-concrete-boxagain/ What gear are you currently using Jim - as in both you and the band - and whats the lineup of instruments? What have you got to play with, just so I know what the cheapest way of getting you something good to try is. What have you got in terms of PA, specifically, the desk.. and are your PA speakers suitable for vocal only or is it something that could take the whole band? (I think I recall you saying it was a vocal only PA at some point?)

 5. I know of the Rev33 - I nearly bought one but not heard one - I'm a bit put off that they are tuned to the IEMs you have... which means if you change your IEMs, the Rev33 then becomes sub optimal. I know they aren't crazy money though, especially when you consider the costs of some of the IEMs that we are using. A couple of guys I know who have them swear by them though - say that their ears feel a lot less fatigued after a gig. Mind you, I don't really suffer with ear fatigue after a gig... and even if I do, it's nothing that appears to bother me! Still, would love to try one out - after all, the proof is in the eating of the pudding... or something like that.
 6.
Around 6.5M for approximately 5 seconds lol... But the audience has doubled with re-runs.. but no one was watching me.. Or realised I was there. And I wasn't the subject of the show. So that's the same as most gigs then...
And it was in the back garden if I recall? Just read your other post - I was in the band doing for an awards ceremony doing the stings for the walk-ons. So I was playing about 20 seconds of a song at most!
 7.
thanks for all your suggestions. 2 gigs coming up weekend after this are in known good venues i have done before so i know its all going to be alright then. my sanity and mojo will be hopefully restored and I can go back to advising others
Jim you really are stubborn trying to keep away from IEMs...
 8. I been busy at soldering club again... well, not quite yet. Soldering still needs to be done... but been preparing the cable ready for the multitude of XLRs. 12 way loom for the inears rack - should tidy things up no end! 12 single XLRs is a bit cumbersome. So yes, it's been an exercise in trying to figure out how to make a professional looking loom tonight! I think there was success. So, it's now fully braided, all the heat shrink is in place... next the soldering! Got to love a project.
 9.
I paid 300 quid for the bass at the time the GBP was insanely low, so it costed me 1500 PLN (the pickup -SD Ligtnin' Rod - costs 600 PLN new, mind you). Painting by a pro costs 750 PLN and Warmoth replacement body in Sherwood Green + shipping costs 2000+ - 10 times the spray paint (postage included). No one in Poland would buy the body for more than 200 PLN, especially with the cracks and after the original owner had the fantasy to carve a stupid 9V battery hole under the pickguard in a random spot. EDIT: And if I had the money, I'd probably go with genuine MiJ Fender '57 RI, something like this: http://www.ebay.co.u...IoAAOSw-kdXyavK
Ah ok - yeah, the maths don't add up! Hopefully you can get a good refin done then!
 10.
This has gotta be the winner!! lol
Nup - I know of one guy on here who's done 90k at Wembley...
 11. Corporate at Battersea Evolution then I guess.
 12. Are we counting televised performances?
 13. OK, so the idea behind the thread... post a youtube vid with no comments. The groove needs to speak for itself. Comments about other grooves in the topic acceptable, just not when posting a groove... Go! (PS Ignore the thread rules as they aren't comments above the groove that follows....) 14. re Mackie vs Behringer. I've got experience of running Mackie DL1608/DL32R and Behringer X16/X18 and they will all see you alright. Mackies update via MasterFder is actually pretty good. They are still developing the DL software... and line. MasterFader 4 brought in some great improvements and I believe there is another update due soon. They are listening and putting in the changes - so I wouldn't say that Mackie will be abandoning the DL any time soon. You can't really beat the XR18 for the fx section that kicks the Mackies. However, I would argue the interface of the Mackie is a lot more straightforward to navigate and poses less complexity. Of course, the Mackie is iPad only whereas as Behringer is Mac/PC/iOS and Android - so you may want to factor that in if you are looking to buy a controlling device also. With regard to line level outputs - my DL32R outputs similar to my GLD80.
 15.
In that situation a piezo tweeter might be worth trying, they cost pennies and don't need a crossover. The down side is that they don't sound great but if they are just your personal monitor for the synth they might just give you enough to save you spending a fortune. There won't be a huge effect on your bass sound either. Power handling isn't great, they are usually rated in the maximum voltage they can handle 25-35V rms which equates to around 100W at 8 ohms, synth puts out a lot of power into the horns. The simple solution is to wire two in series ( I can hear Stevie and BFM flinching here as this is sooo wrong acoustically) It will work though I've got a box full of these in the loft , if you want to try and are happy to pay postage pm me and I'll send you a couple gratis. you can try them just resting on the cab and build a box after if you are happy with how they sound.
Was going to suggest something similar to this - google the MarkBass Tweeter Box for more info - http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=87
 16. Have you considered....? http://www.warmoth.c...e=23&Path=JBass or maybe even... http://www.ebay.co.u...rsAAOSwnFZXW07S If you sold your existing body as is, it may not cost you that much to change. A refin is the pain in the arse - unless you are looking for a project of course... but don't expect the same level of finish from rattle cans as you would from a pro spray shop. If you do decide to spray yourself, go slowly and take your time in the prep and sanding, the flattening and then the polish. Good luck in whatever you decide to do! EDIT: -sorry read it as a J bass. Lets look for something P based. http://www.warmoth.com/Pages/ClassicShowcase.aspx?Bass=1&Body=2&Shape=22&Type=22&Path=PBass,Standard
 17.
Great service... I had a similar experience with hipshot recently
Same - had a query over saddles, screws and springs.... They said it would be a lot easier for them to just send me a load of stuff... which they did for free. Unbelievable service. I've heard great things about Schaller too. These hardware guys are on it!
 18. Forgot to mention - make sure the frequencies for the devices you are buying are legal! Probably Ch38 or Ch70!
 19.
Yes that's a big help, im leaning towards the G3. Ha although I've recently have found a used psm 900 around the £500 mark (just to through more spanners in the works lol) do you know much about the psm300 claiming to be a digital hybrid? Not too sure what that means personally
If you have the option of a PSM900 for that sort of money, I would go for that. The PSM900 is the winner, especially if it is in good condition and has the latter P9RA pack, as opposed to the P9R. Having said that, in the real world, there's not really much significant differences between the two packs - unless you are planning on using mix mode and a pair of receivers. The digital hybrid thing is a bit misleading - the actual transmission is still very much analogue. (I've explained earlier that digital transmission for IEMs is generally bad news due to the amount of latency a digital transmission brings to the table. Add a digital desk, digital outboard and a digital mic to the equation, then factor in the fact you have 2 sound streams to process (for stereo IEMs) and you'll find yourself singing against an echo). The digital it refers to is the onboard processing of the sound, e.g. the eq and the compounding - which results in minimal latency but arguably better quality sound.
 20. I think it's been cleared in the thread earlier but granted, it's a lot of info... so my overview is as follows - others experiences may differ. In terms of my experience with Shure and Sennheiser, to date, I've gigged on the PSM200, PSM300, PSM900 and PSM1000. Sennheiser - EW300 G2, EW300 G3. PSM300 and EW300 G3 are both great systems and both have their plus and negatives... however, for the flexibility in the rf tuning alone, I would go for the EW300. If you get the channel 70 version (license free), it will tune down to 823-832 which is also a legal band that is available to use with the shared mic license (what you would use if you bought the system on channel 38). The PSM300 has fixed tuning points only. This is great for environments where there is little interference or you aren't running a load of wireless (this fact is further complicated if its wireless of different types (e.g. not IEM transmitters, but mics... and if this said wireless is from different manufacturers) - Just select a bank and channel and go. Sennheiser has both - preselected and the ability to fine tune when co-ordinating a lot of radio. Also, the EW300 has balanced inputs (in fact, combo sockets so allows for jacks also) as opposed to the jack only inputs on the Shure. I've talked about audio quality before - between the Shure premium and Sennheiser, there's very little difference - with the Shure perhaps being a tiny bit quieter (in terms of the noise floor at rest) and a bit better in the bass response - but certainly nothing to worry about (I'm being uber, uber detailed in the difference between the two), especially if you are running a digital desk where you can eq the signal to taste anyway I think the build of the EW300 transmitter is more akin to the PSM900 so I think if you are looking for a premium feeling product, I would go for the EW300 out of the EW300 and the PSM300. The premium pack of the PSM300 is great, probably edging the build of the EW300 pack - but the EW300 is not a problem by any means. Batteries last a lot, lot longer in the Sennheiser compared to the Shure. Hope this helps. Note - Just don't bother with the PSM200... if any shop tries to offer you one on a close out deal, don't buckle. They aren't in the same league as the PSM300.
 21. Can't tell the difference between a G and A? You need one of those tuners that tell you!
 22.
It may be because until the Shark - there is nothing you can't get from Lakland already (just in more colours). A few loyal players have followed Dan, others will not care for the history involved and just want a decent brand name.
and a decent headstock.
