Agreed. Some of the 'new' stuff in PMT Birmingham is either covered in a years worth of dust or looks like it's been gigged heavily.
Ah, the good old PA section.

Go see ACS and ask to demo their Live system. Buy the top end inear monitors they sell (as you'll need the bass response) and the Live system and you'll have the best ear plugs you can hope for. In a nut shell, they are headphones that have mics built into them. You can then dial in the amount of signal that comes from the mics into your ears. You don't have the loss of frequencies that you get with traditional earplugs. If you ever go to using an inears system, you can also blend the mix from say the desk and the mics. It will be expensive but it will keep you playing and enjoying music again. Seriously, well worth the trip - and Andy the MD there is a big believer in keeping your ears safe.

Stroborack with expansion module. Input A/input B. Output A/Output B. No summed mix. Foot switchable selections decides which input is currently being tuned. You're welcome.
I would get a price from another sound company and make sure they quote for loading and unloading and see how it compares with what you currently pay him
But what you also need to factor in, is that competitor company staffed by bell ends? Will they do as good a job? Sometimes its good to stick with what you know.
-
It depends how much you like him as a sound guy. If he does a great job, then helping him load in and load out is not too bad. If you still wanted to use him but weren't prepared to help, then expect to cover the expenses of one of his mates who will do nothing all night apart from when gear needs to be shifted or packed up. A decent sound guy is hard to find - so maybe being accommodating to a one man operation who seems to be doing a good job for you may be the answer.

I don't blame you. Unless you are set up to do loads, things like that are very time consuming! Why Behringer put the auxes in upside down I'll never know. Guessing it's to do with the way that stuff is mounted on the PCBs (and the clearance required from the sides of the case) inside.

Hopefully you should be OK with the wifi - guess you'll find out in time. If things go pear shaped, I suppose you always have the option of moving the stageclix to the other side or mounting an external router inside with an external aerial that you can mount further away from the stageclix. Hopefully, the Stageclix should be able to negotiate a free channel when it's searching for free channels. Also, with regards to right angled XLRs - beware, Behringer have mounted the auxes upside down - so the XLR cables will be going up towards the inputs... which could mess everything up. You could do with some really fine XLR cable - like that found in multicore, to get the angle from the back of a straight plug. If you are handy, you could make low profile XLRs where you can choose where the cable comes out from. Rather than me explain it, let me see if I can find you a video on youtube as it is likely to be clearer.

Re Tolex Araldite it. It will outlast the cab.
Anyone have the 16? I can't justify the cost of the 18 but the 16 is half the price, and am pretty happy with 8 microphone channels and 4 busses. I assume the functionality is the same but just less of.
In addition - Main differences are the lack of multitrack recording - XR16 will only do a stereo mix - and the XR16 doesn't have Ultranet, which is used for the separate P16-M monitor mixers.

Ever met a famous musician…. but not realised at the time?

Spoke to Martin Barre without knowing who he is. And if I met him again, I probably still wouldn't recognise him for who he is. -
Wow, all great response. The clincher for me would be whether you can play tracks wirelessly over the wifi from your device? Anyone know if you can? I can't justify the spend either but when has that ever stopped us ;-)
No you can't. Although it you were to source an apple express, you could use that as your router and stream via airplay... or you could try using a bluetooth music receiver - but you wouldn't be able to stray very far from it. I know people who use the latter with varying results (but I think that is mostly down to the quality of the streaming adapter that they are using).

There are no problems with the XRx stuff. There's very little in them to go wrong as it's mostly software based and a lot of the tech has come from Midas know how. You should take a look at the Facebook group if you want some confidence - there are plenty of weekend warriors and DJs using them... along guys that roll out some seriously big rigs at more pro events. They are seriously top pieces of kit - none of the competitors come even close to the fx racks in these bad boys.

Opinions on using Active 10" PA Speakers for stage monitoring
EBS_freak replied to mingsta's topic in General Discussion
PS - monitoring drums through 10s is doable if you have enough processing on your signal. e.g. lots of compression to lessen the transients and HPF... but that's not readily available from what the original poster has stated. Typically, you wouldn't go too crazy on the compression though, as you'll start introducing problems with feedback - however, with a kit that isn't miced up, you would be able to push a lot harder. The key question is, how loud are you as a band? If you have a loud guitar and bass, you have little chance of getting drums to a volume that I think you would want to achieve. 10s are great for monitors - but as is probably clear from this thread, not so great for lowend. Have you considered a wired in-ears solution? -
I suppose this is where those six D&B monitors would really shine as long as they weren't hired out when you needed them? :-)
D&B? I thought they were DB? So much confusion. -
Perhaps a pair of VERY dark glasses so you don't see it all when you dep for me next?
Ha! I don't think the FunkTrunk™ will be on that gig will it?
-
You need to be telling that to FunkMum™ and SoulDaddy ©
It would proper do my nut having those two receivers perched on top of the FunkTrunk™... mind you, mismatched receivers is causing me to break out into a sweat.

Not the QU16 - Im a GLD80 man - but I know the QU16 well. A mate of mine uses one and it's a perfect bit of kit for what we all want to achieve. I try to get play time on a whole load of desks so I can compare how they all perform. Currently trying to find where I can get my hands on a Soundcraft UI for a bit. The onboard looks pretty impressive... but then again, so is the Behringer stuff. I was pleasantly surprised by the QSC Touchmix... would recommend that for it's easy of use. Very straightforward and intuitive. Anyway, I digress. CIEMs will rock your socks off - defo go for the quad for the extended bass headroom. 1964 have just changed to 64 Audio and are now embracing the Adel technology - and as a consequence, the prices have hiked significantly, so you may want to start looking at the other main brands also and see what deals they have as all the prices have pretty much levelled (with regard to driver count) across the field. Anyway, JH Audio and 1964 tend to have Black Friday deals so thats the date to keep in your calendar. I agree - on paper, that Thomann snake is very, very competitively priced! Very interested! As there's loads of pics being posted, lets keep up the trend... here's the GLD80! Although I am using this more and more, primarily due to it's portability - but I do miss the comprehensive fx section of the A&H.

Mic receivers you say Tony? Rack that shizzle up!

I like these IEM posts... keep them coming. Here's some more from me. C'mon Mr Zed, join the party! Tonyf, where's the SCS funk trunk? Here's one of my inears rigs on top of my cabs. I swear bands love me when I dep - they always ask with much excitement if I am bringing an inears rig with me! Funnily enough, I was also asked to look after the QSC Touchmix (which is sitting on top of the flightcase). Brilliant little unit - super easy to use and sounds great - and reliable built in wifi for iPad mixing off stage. What's not to like? And no, it's not overkill for a pub gig. The acoustics at the pictured venue are terrible - three foot horrible hollow stage. In-ears? Meh, no problem.
