I'm well pleased that this thread has inspired others to make the leap to the wild side of IEM! Great looking rig and I see that you are using the Thomann Ssnake - I've been looking at them as a cheaper alternative to wiring up my Van damme looms when utilising a splitter (once in a blue moon kinda stuff). Whats the quality of them like? sunsse - what desk you using to drive all this good stuff? My loom - still got to sort this out at the next soldering club - Much soldering, heatshrinking and braiding... and hopefully we'll be there! And stereo - yes, it's a blessing!

Also - yes - both crimped into same Powercon! Future IEMs can be chained off same PSU - it's got a fairly beefy output. Any mains devices can be split from the current IEC going into the XR18.

I think the neatness and success of these projects has more to do with Pete than me. He's a dab hand. I think it's years under classic car bonnets. I've made up cables in the past but a single cable is more like an hours work for me!

Mr Zed - how you getting on? Soldering club with my best mate StingrayPete (he used to frequent these parts). Just a note, the braided ground on Van Damme cable is a bitch to strip back! Mind you, there should be zero interference on those cables! (Maybe a bit overkill for such a short run... but hey). Note - There's no run of cable ties across this rack - the cables from the front panel are in thick heat shrink and cable tied to the rack ears directly next to them... so figured there's not enough movement in the cable to worry about that.

You forgot the Samson power distribution unit. :-p

I don't get the "dark" thing. Everytime I've played a bass with Barts I kinda find the opposite. Maybe they just require a circuit?

Sennheiser ME3 - a good mic without going into silly money. Drummers and vocals are always quite tough without outboard available. What you really want is the ability to gate his vocals when he isn't singing, and make sure you have a 31 band EQ to notch out any problematic frequencies. Digital desks are king. You may want to explore the gooseneck attachment approach too - [url="http://www.sweetwater.com/insync/vocal-miking-for-the-singing-drummer/"]http://www.sweetwate...inging-drummer/[/url] - just make sure you go for a compact mic. Great thing is that you can mute it and swing it out of the way when not in use - minimises the risk of a panting drummer coming out of front of house. Hope this helps.

It's not as deep so less wasted space inside - just check the measurements are suitable for your needs. RoadReady cases are amongst the best cases I've used or seen, along with Amptown cases. The latter are pretty expensive though. Drilling through the IEM plate should be easy enough. A couple of grommets and you are away. Powercon could be more tricky to drill though! The bottom strip consists of: Neutrik DBA-BL - blanking plates Neutrik NC3FD-LX B - Chassis mount female XLR Neutrik NAC3MPA-1 - Powercon Socket M3 Nylon bolts and M3 Screws (socket head) Neutik SCDR boot - for Powercon Socket rear I had the 6 hole D type rack panel hanging around, not sure what it is but there's something very similar here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PSG03788-Rack-Panel-1U-6-D-Type-PRO-SIGNAL-/191500430568? You'll need to solder and heat shrink some flying cables (I use VanDamme star quad cable) to the rear of the XLRs on the panel mount mount and put a NC3MXX male XLR connector on each end. Theres a length of cable ties going across the width of the rack in order to attach the cables to avoid stress in the solder joints during transit. On this particular case, Road Ready 6u effects case, from bax shop, there's a handy rail to tie such things onto. Also on these same internal rails, I've mounted a psu from abcproducts (eBay) to get rid of the wall wart plug. From the Powercon, the power is split between the Behringer and this PSU to provide power to the IEMs. The top panel is simply a 1u blanking strip. Try to get a u shaped one instead of a flat one as there is less flex in the u shaped ones. You could get away with a 4u case if you wanted the same if you are prepared to drill the XR18 rack ears, which I know a few people have done. You could drill a hole for each of the leads going straight to the inears unit. In which case, I would suggest a cable passing straight through with a gromet in the rack ear where you have drilled to prevent cable rub. The power would of course, take a thicker drill bit and some precision drilling to line up the holes for the M3 bolt. The owner of this case is not too sure if he wants to add stuff to the rack, hence the choice of 6u - gives options down the line. There is nothing mounting on the back yet as there is no need to even take off the back. It's planned to be just placed on the back lid and the top is removed as in the photo and everything is available from there. To be fair the case is fairly deep, maybe twice the depth it needs to be - but the guy I'm building it for is planning to put all his XLR cables in a bag and store it in the rear of the rack... I would take take your original circuit off your hands if you were thinking about moving it on.

Tonyf - we need more rack porn IEM setups in this thread!

Working on a new rig for a mate. XR18 and IEM rig. Proper versatile setup. All front mounted sockets, including the power so to avoid bending down too far when plugging in all the channels. Nice little stage box that sits next to the drums. Three piece band, two individual mono feeds from the IEM transmitter (with two receivers), one wired solution to the drums. Spare rack for potential inclusion of a dbx drive rack maybe, or further IEM system if they ever want to go down the stereo route in the future.

Not at all. Set up your PA and play a stereo Beatles track through it. Stand to one side of the stage and listen and ask yourself if you are getting the full picture.

You are right, it's a John circuit and Bernie has been exploring It as an alternative vibe to the Rumour circuit.
