So that'll be why they stopped making bass amps - there were obviously more important R&D projects to put the cash into.
But they haven't... they have Eden and thats where they are focusing their R&D.

I'm literally on the edge of my seat to hear where the B string is...

I've got/had the 350, 360, 360, 650, Fafner. No discernable difference in the DI although obviously if you are using the tube of the TD650, you'll hear the influence of the tubes on that. I don't like tubes for bass (yes for guitar, no for bass) so the addition of tubes on the the TD650 is a feature I don't use. Similar, I don't use the tube emulation on the HD350. With regards to the DI however, I would get an attenuator, -10, -15 or -20... because the DI can be too hot for some desk preamps - http://www.ebay.co.u...nuator&_sacat=0 The HD350 has a slightly different tone if you do an A/B test - I prefer the HD350 - but unless the two were side by side, I would wager that you could not tell the difference. It really is minimal. In terms of volume difference. 3db. So not worth talking about... but the HD350 is a lot lighter than the TD650. For a 4Ohm load, both amps put out about the same. It's only when you get to a 2 Ohm load, you can make use of the extra watts put out by the 650.... So in reality, I guess it all comes down to whether you are going to make use of that tube or not. My go to amp? 350. My 650 serves as my practice amp!
Thanks, and I really need to find a way to defend myself and the preamp after the Bass Player review fiasco that is going on in this month's issue.
oh my - whats going on? PM if you wish.
The Smiths.
I refuse to believe that this band could sound anything but ****!
Paul Simon at the NEC. He was great, and so were the band, but it was an enormous venue with sh*t loads of empty seats. Awful sound and no atmosphere
I think I was at that Paul Simon gig. Pretty disappointing as I thought it would be a contender for my fave gig of all time. Worst "proper" band performance (as opposed to the multitude of dire bands trying to get a break or get out of the pub) was a band called Tetra Splendour. They were supporting the Fun Lovin' Criminals. They were awful. Awful songs, awful sound, awful stage presence, awful playing, awful etc etc... I remember visiting their website to see wtf they were all about... and they were getting absolutely slaughtered on their own forum! Things must have been bad as they disappeared as Tetra Splendour to only reappear as People in Planes - funnily enough they had already gone through one rename before, something to do with robots but I forget. They had limited if any success over here but I understand they had a good go in the US... and I also had an awful deja vu moment when watching a chick flick with the gf and they popped up in John Tucker Must Die. I seem to recall they did some music video or something Joaquin Phoenix. Maybe the yanks were getting off on the "English" (but really Welsh) aspect of the band. Anyway, it sticks in my mind as considering I was having my own attempt at rock stardom, I felt somewhat aggrieved that such tosh could get on a support slot with Fun Lovin' Criminals (who themselves I thought were held in higher praise than they should be). As I've grown older, I've realised that the music business is a funny old game... a mate of mine had the opportunity of buying onto the support slot with McFly... at a cost of ten of thousands of pounds - which of course, as a struggling band, they couldn't raise. Meanwhile, some kid with a rich dad pays for her to get ignored whilst she goes through the motions of her warbley solo act with acoustic guitar.
I'm still trying to find a way to get a ce certification for my preamps, before I will submit my exhibitor's application. Then there is the matter of 2 million GBP of insurance for two days. May have to wait another year. I hope not!
Best of luck. Would love to see your stuff.
i found tracking to be very good on the test unit i have. it is monophonic, but most bass synths are. i can guarantee you the power of the processor is pretty well used :-) there are quite some new things sound wise.
That's great to hear. All this DI clone stuff is BS. We should be moving on from there... or at least having the DI available as a "retro" option with a whole palette of new stuff Can't wait to hear it... and if it tracks well, superb. I'd expect it to be mono tracking... but low down tracking has always been a bit of an issue for most pedals. Anyway, keep us updated.
-
I hope it isn't like the DI personally. I hope that there is much improvement. Yes, make a nod to, or even an emulation of the DI... but with all the extra processing on board, it would be wasteful not to make something better than the DI... which in reality, is a pretty overrated pedal but grown to cult status as it's probably the best of the bunch. I'm very interested - I'm kinda hoping that it will make a great alternative to carrying a synth around... but I suspect the physics of the instrument and getting the tracking right will put pay to that.
There's obviously demand for the original Deep Impact pedals, if Korg don't want to make them anymore why don't they let someone else under license?
I'm sure Akai would have something to say about it all. Anyway, I'd be surprised if the long outdated microchips in there were available in any significant quantities to warrant production.

OK, so spent some time with the PSM300 now and I can confirm that it has comparable quality to the transmission of the PSM900... which is good news. It would have been a shame if the unit sounded like the PSM200 for the price point that it is at. I would have to recommend the metal receiver over the plastic one - it's pretty much identical to the PSM900 but with a fixed aerial and limited software on board. (It wouldn't actually surprise me if they shared pretty much the same components but crippled by software. So if you are happy with the fixed rear antenna and the fact that you are limited to the fixed frequencies, then I would recommend the PSM300. Whether or not I would take it over the comparatively priced EW300 (which has extra features), I'm not too sure - it all comes down to the noise floor... and whether you can cope with the slight hiss you get from the Sennheiser when nobody is playing (and when I say slight hiss... it really is minimal and I'm just being picky! - it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker.)
got a 360 but no matter what they say at ebs its different. the top end has changed. in fact I found it sounded different overall.these diffrences were the "improvments" they made which could well be what a lot of players out there want but to my ears these were horrible changes. Scratch plate for Fender Mike Dirnt Bass Help
EBS_freak replied to CyberBass's topic in Accessories and Misc
Seen this scratch plate someone's had made for there's and love it. Where can I go to get one made?
Send your existing plate off to Sims to be used for a template. Not cheap... but perfect. -

I'd be going Meyer!

Great track although I thought the original that he did with Raiyn was the superior version.

Did you get anywhere with this?
the fact they own some bandwidth is worth the extra £200.
Ha ha. What sort of guff have they been spewing?
They're my pick too - very solid and dependable instruments, always reasonably priced (apart from the BBNEII).
BBNE2 is reasonably priced... apart from in the UK. I remember I bought one brand new at £1150 off the Yamaha rep when they were about £1800. Just look at them now
I too love mine, and I'm having very good results with their customer service department. However, I have heard, though not had first hand experience, that their new HD360s, TD660s and Fafner IIs are not nearly as good as the older kit Would still live to give a Fafner II a go though. Gallien-Kruger seem to have maintained a good reputation since the 80s
It's not really the HD360s and TD660s and Fafner 2 amps that have changed. They've had tweaks sonically which is either something you like or don't. As far as construction goes, they are still as they were. The chrome as gone - this was sold as "environmentally sound" decision... the cynic in me thinks it is because chroming the small handles is actually quite expensive. The big changes have been in the cabs - the hardware all used to be the real deal Adam Hall stuff - they've been swapped out for cheaper equivalents. The covering has also changed - not as thick, not as robust. The pedals have changed also - now made in China. The cheaper switches in them are an annoyance. They are prone to failing and the PCB mounting that they introduced in the change is a ballache when it comes to unsoldering and replacing. They became true bypass... the cynic in me would suggest that was done because it was cheaper than putting in a buffer... For me, its a shame... but for them, it's about staying competitive in the market place.
