That might explain Nigel and Pete... and one or two others.
Petes leaving is unrelated to wpd departure

Holy thread revival batman!
Main advantage of the sub is that it's £200 less expensive and lighter too - and that if you want an awesome yet little sub for your existing PA system you won't want the extra abilities of the FR800.
If you are buying two tops and effectively getting a hundred pounds discount, I'd see spending an extra hundred pounds over the basic sub to get a much more versatile third cab a better option.
But the absolutely enormous elephant in the room for me is that you haven't said how the hell the cabs were mic'ed up, and that can have the most enormous effect on the sound that we are now hearing, I can get a 10" cone to sound like the ultimate dub bass speaker just through mic choice (typically a ribbon) and position (off axis and angled at 45 degress), I can get a 15" cone to sound like a slapper's dream using a different mic (SDC) and positions (straight into the dust cover as close as it will go).
You'd hope that all cabs were miced in the same manner, using the same mic...

Been looking at this sub again... Whats the advantage of the sub? Why not just buy another top (after all, they go as low) - am I right in thinking that you have crippled the response of the speaker via DSP so all the power goes to getting the low frequencies - and also removed the tweeter? Buying another top seems to make more sense. Gives you greater redundancy on a gig also - or does the sub develop more bass that the tops?

If you are talking about the Shure PSM200 I can understand why... The 300 and 900 do the "more me" mix thing to... as do the Sennheiser. Of course, if you have two receivers and pan each one to the extreme, you can use one transmitter for two mono mixers for two people.

Nothing beats the power on demand of a bit lump of iron.

They are good cabs for the money - and I would rather gig them than the Neo equivalents... They don't fart and splurge! Much more old school sounding than the Proline and Neoline equivalents... but a solid budget cab. Those Trace cabs are heavy - remember my 4x10 - 41kg. That was some lift back in the day!

Quick question as there's no pic of the subwoofer - is it front loaded? Or is a horn design? The only small drivered yet super efficient subs that I've experienced is the Danley tapped horn stuff - but they are far from super light!
We're excited about these! We have rather a large marketing challenge on our hands because what most people are failing to notice is that these are true full-range PA speakers that do BIG lows. They're not like the usual small boxes you get on stands - apart from being that light! If your band only puts vocals, guitar and horns through the PA system and never uses the PA to also play recorded music, then they'd be complete overkill. They're designed to replace much larger tops + subs rigs, hence the cost. Push them hard with kick drums, bass guitar, synths etc. Back when we first used two Big Baby Ts as a PA system they were used for drum 'n bass at club levels and sounded awesome. The FR800s can do that. They're nothing like those plastic Mackies you see everywhere, despite also being 2-way active 12" boxes. Much like a Super Compact is nothing like a cheap practice 1x12" bass combo, despite both containing one 12" speaker. So how can we explain this to people? Any local (Brighton) bands want to borrow a pair?
I clocked that early on when looking at the specs. I'm especially interested in the 12 inch subs as they are super portable and the specs looks quite encouraging. I'm a believer in big subs (15s as a min and 18s being the sweet spot before heading up to 21s). The thing is, there's subs and subs... one persons idea of crushing bass may not be the same as mine. But despite all this, I am very interested in hearing this setup - an efficient lightweight sub are far from common!
What would you say the closest competition is in terms of "accepted" PA rigs? Might be a good way to get it across to people
In terms of tops (with great low end response that you could use without subs), I would like to hear them against the RCF 745s - http://www.rcf.it/pr...eries/art-745-a which come in just under 1k. I'm not quite sure what the subs would be pitched against - maybe the DLM12s because Alex has mentioned Mackie already?

Nah, everybody knows that it's more about photoshop than the camera ....walks away with tin hat on.

Tony drop me some SCS dates to see what I can do... Im getting close to being mobile again.
I've got no idea what the monitoring is like, I do have some access to some monitors however, Just cause of my health I don't want to risk anything major. We play Metal, similar to the NWOBHM stuff, but I'm concerned about not getting the feel of the bass through the monitors, or is that just me being paranoid?
If you are loud onstage, you may find it difficult - you probably won't be able to hear over the drums and guitars. It's hard to tell without knowing more about the gear you are going to be using and the onstage volume.
-
Depends how good your FOH speakers are. With subs and decent tops (even just tops if they are really good), you are away... presuming you have some monitoring available for you (if you care about such things!) I've gigged for the last 3 years without a bass amp... I actually think it works better without an amp... and you become every sound mans best friend.
Thank you! Yeah, recommendation greatly appreciated mate! Oh the wait... I'm not very good with waiting.... still, it's faster than a custom bass build!
64 are usually pretty good to be honest... It's JH you are in for a wait with!
-
I can't believe I didn't think of that!!!!!!! Absolutely brilliant!! I've ordered translucent deep purple shells with black cables. You did actually get the clef right though. I've put a gold clef on each ear and, well, so I don't lose 'em, I've got my name on 'em too!! You'll have to imagine the gold writing!
Matches your Shuker!
So it has!... Still coming to terms with the Merlin! The design looks better than the Warwick and the Ibanez SC's, but the Foderas have it. In contrast Bernie's super-J Spitfire looks better than most other basses period! IMHO
The Merlin feels great when you play it. I don't know about SCs on the whole buy certainly being behind the wheel so to speak, its a lovely instrument to play. The Spitfire though... well, I love mine

Glad to hear it all went well. Now comes the wait eh?!
is that for PA use or bass?
PA.

Try them however you like and stick with the arrangement you like.
What a superb visit! - Yeah, Paul was great. Patient and knew that I wanted to demo the products with zero bias. He asked the right questions to help me form my choices and didn't steer me at all. I didn't take any preconceived ideas with me nor did I look too hard at the individual specifications either. Just trusted my ears and music source! Given my budget and my needs, I am pretty sure I've made the right choice. I'd totally recommend the Custom IEM Company to anyone - especially as they have such a wide stock of all the major IEM brands. I demo'd Ultimate Ears, JH Audio and 1964 specifically. Again, given my budget and needs, it did mean that I struggled a bit as they are all very good. However, there was one IEM in the price bracket that delivered the goods I needed. The JH and UE had a superb clarity and detail that I crave, but just one set I tried also had a weight and clarity in the lows that actually made me smile from ear to ear. I went to give the Qi a whirl but came away having ordered the 1964 V8.
Ha Tony - you have a friend! A quad in the lows is a massive sound. It's what I love about the JH16s and V8s and my Roxannes. You probably realised when you tested them, they are all great... but one of them will speak to you with it's sound signature... for you it was the V8 So what colour scheme did you go for?
-
Lightweight subs are certainly very interesting but not entirely sold on the tops yet for the price... but then again, I haven't heard them yet. Very interested in the subs.
